      You must be joking. There's no mention of anything even remotely like a death panel in the bill so what language is in there that would lead someone giving it a 'fair reading' that it would lead to such a thing?

        ~~~PALIN'S OWN ALASKAN DEATH CAMP OF ELDERLY AND DISABLED~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
        ~~~~~~~~~ ~Palin ran her own "death panel" in Alaska~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
        July 15/2009

        Lisa Demer of the Anchorage Daily News has broken a story that adds another scandal to the growing list of scandals that have plagued this administration, and shines the light on Alaska’s very own health care crisis.

        Demer’s story centers on the horrendous condition of the Alaska’s state programs that are designed to help its most vulnerable citizens, the elderly and disabled.

        The situation is so bad the federal government has forbidden the state to sign up new people until the state makes necessary improvements. [snip]

        The moratorium is expected to last four or five months. State officials estimate about 1,000 Alaskans will be affected.

        A particularly alarming finding concerns deaths of adults in the programs. In one 2 1/2 year stretch, 227 adults already getting services died while waiting for a nurse to reassess their needs.

        Another 27 died waiting for their initial assessment, to see if they qualified for help.

        No other state in the nation is under such a moratorium, according to a spokeswoman for the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

      And this guy was a judge? Oy! Insurance companies make these decisions all the time for us now. We have very little recourse, we have very little awareness. At least if it were a government policy, we would know it was there. What we have now is uncertainty and paternalism on the part of insurance corporations who value the health of their bottom line over our health, the bottom line.

      And we all know Sarah Palin has read the bill. That is why she resigned. She needed the time to read the Health Care bill. What a joke AP is.

      Ok, prove to me you read the bill by pointing out what page it is and what are the words used that you can translate into " death panel ". Prove it. You claim to be a journalist so prove it to me, a mere mortal.

      The Righties defending Palin today just proves one thing: she's just publishing their talking points.

      BTW, didn't she say that her family was off-limits?? What happened to that? Ohhhhhhh ... only off-limits when used for political reasons or humor by SOMEONE ELSE! Got it ...

      Legitimate concerns...? Only if one assumes that everyone not on the far right is a greedy, power-hungry, heartless, lying liberal. Virtue can only be found among far right wing loons, we are expected to believe. Where were these same people when Bush and Cheney were seizing extraordinary Executive powers, based upon lies and distortions?

          That's pretty scary right there Col.

          Someone woke up on the wrong side of life in that blog. Never you mind that plenty of people already make end of life decisions, for example, my wife and I have not put anything down in writing, or legally, and even though we're both less than 40, we've had the discussion about end of life decisions should one of us get messed up in a car accident, or something like that, so that we both know each others wishes.

          Never mind, that end of life decisions, and living wills could also say, "Keep me alive as long as possible NO MATTER WHAT!". These folks seem to think making these decisions means you sign a DNR, and that's it. Truth is, many older folks, my grandparents included who have all passed away now, did sign DNR orders. Why? Because they felt they had had a good life, and if something like that were to happen, they were ready to go.

          I loved the section about how Obama was going to make all hospitals take down Christian symbols and things like that. Bearing in mind that no, that would not happen.

          People are nuts. And the gall, I mean the absolute GALL of the health care to be able to perform a legally acceptable procedure on a woman (abortion).

          These folks have lost their marbles.

          Oh, and forgot about the parts of the bill that make hiring of homosexuals mandatory, and the $50k tax credit for sexual re-assignment surgery.

          Where do these nutjobs get this stuff? Because honestly, it's not based in reality.

            You're actually picking specific things outta that which aren't true, Mag?? Ha, wouldn't it be easier to single out something reality-based in the whole mess?

            Yeah, this would be funny if it was a room full of 10 crazy people, but these are mass emails that are aimed at what must be a substatial part of the right-wing base.

            I have a sister who works for an airline, her hubby's military. They're in their 50s, but because they both fly and travel a lot, and are smart people, and don't have children, they have all of these things in order. Wills, real estate, donations, medical matters.

            These are simply common-sense, practical legal matters, things that sane people do outside of their superstitious emotional boxes.

            I guess I just nailed why these things are so horrifying to the far right.

      This is such a joke. The law (page 242) gives a CHOICE for individuals to complete a health care proxy and with consultation of their physcian and enumerate any special requests regarding end of life care. This is something that any estate planning attorney would suggest to any client in conjuntion with the completion of an estate plan. We don't refrer to those lawyers who are giving sound advice regarding these issues as Doctor Death. Often these items are additional charges in the estate plan, instead of seemingly taking care of them for free as part of the proposed government program. The update every five years is again, what a good for profit lawyer would suggest. The plan has just codified best practices into the law as a choice. Many people never have a comprehensive estate plan formulated, so these issues become problematical at the worst times. These Republican liars don't really care what helps the average person, as long as they can win a news cycle. `

      These are the kind of things that worry many of us out in the country away from Washington. Here is a speech quoting words from President Obama's own Health advisors.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CHBvKGmevI

      We see such words as presaging many of the fears that are being expressed concerning the plan. We don't perceive these as lies.

        Commonman, if you haven't figured it out, the clip you linked to is well-known fruitcake Michelle Bachmann taking quotes out of context and paraphrasing most of what she's saying.

        She wants to scare you. It seems to be working. Why don't you try to find some actual information, rather than getting it through the very unreliable filter of Bachmann's mouth?

          Let me add a couple of other points on this;

          At the beginning of the clip, Bachmann introduces what she pretends is her subject, the "actual words of Obama's advisors", followed by a quote from Betsy McCaughey. I'm not sure if she was deliberately trying to mislead on this one, but McCaughey is not an Obama advisor, but a shill for the insurance companies.

          Here's another MMFA item with some background on McCaughey, as well as some detail on how she and Bachmann are distorting the remarks of Emmanuel.

          Bachmann also plays pretty fast & loose with the use of "quote" and "unquote" (a regular Sean Hannity trick). Listen to her, more than once, start with "and I quote..", editorializing that same quote without indicating that she's no longer quoting somebody else.

          Your fears may be misdirected.
