You'd think so, but the American electorate can be surprisingly stupid at times. This could easily turn out to be a winning strategy for the Troglodytes. It makes me shudder.

Yes, they are . . . people like Beck, Dobbs and the entire Fox crew are inciting violence . . . they are taking an ingrained distrust and hatred of Mr. Obama because of his skin color and his name and egging it on for ratings . . . they are playing with fire and they don't care if the country burns to the ground.

      They make my stomach turn.

In reality, the most vociferous of these people - the far far righters who are getting all the attention, is a very very small % of the electorate. The effect of the media coverage is that they look like a massive uprising of popular anger. (The media does the same thing when they emphasized what a force Sarah Palin is because lots of enthusiastic people attend her rallies -in reality its the same sort of very very small but extremely enthusiastic portion of the electorate.)

This exaggeration can play out in several ways: (1) it can make sane Americans and Congresspersons believe that the Republicans are a party of loons, and so discredit them. (2) It can go the other way - scare Congress into submission and make Americans join in on this "popular" movement.

It all depends on how intelligent and reasonable the American people and Congress are. This remains to be seen -- this kind of massively deliberate distortive nonsense, put out there by party leaders, is brand new. I would not bet too much money that rationality would win out.
