By the way, I see our drive-by coward is back. Speaking for myself, I never click a "thumbs-down" without posting a comment as to why. I'm not saying everyone has to adhere to this, but it would make the system more useful if we did.

When George W. Bush ran for President there were Republican money people who thought he was an idiot whose lack of a grasp on foreign policy was frightening...but their polls showed he could beat Al Gore. So he was their man. Same for Sarah Palin...she can be a total idiot but if she's electable then they're behind her.

There were lots of other folks who knew firsthand that he was an incompetent, lazy idiot . . . all one had to do is look at his record in business. The period from 2001-2008 proved us to be correct.

Indeed. Obama won the election by, what, about 200 electoral votes? If a single one of those was swung by ACORN, I'd be amazed. Honestly, what key state was that close?

The truth is, there were six battleground states, and McCain needed five of them to win (PA, OH, FL, VA, IA, and CO); not only did he lose them all, but he also lost MT, NM, and NC.

              McCain lost. It wasn't stolen.

I think there's a difference between Dubya and Palin, though. Bush was good at taking orders from Rove, Cheney, etc. and seemed to almost take pride in his lack of sophistication. Palin is more of a loose cannon. All reports indicate that the McCain campaign had to work pretty hard to keep a lid on her and she was not happy about it. If it were her campaign it would've been a train wreck of epic proportions. She also does not accept her limitations. She actually thinks she's smart.

Okay, so being Conservative must mean you are slow on the uptake if it took you a year to figure out that Sarah Palin shoots from the lip, speaks in generalities and doesn't know what she's talking about. I figured that out with just a few minutes of the Katie Curic interview. I was surprised when she resigned from office. I think that was the most cowardly thing, if you can't handle being a Governor of fewer than 700,000 people, how on earth do you think you could handle being President of the U.S.?

Sara Palin should have known early that the republicans did not considered one of them. She was not allowed to click her heels together, say Ronald Reagen and everything be alright. That should have been an early tip-off.Only real repulicans are allowed to do that.

So true. If their candidate spouts generalities, harps on the danger to the American (presumably white) family, and says how great we are, that is enough to get the vote.

        Ingredients for a GOP candidate
        2 Cups FOX
1/2 cup Limbaugh (can use lard instead)
        1 tsp Hannity
        A dash of Beck
Let sit for 2 days or until flies show up.

Joe is correct when he says the hard right isn't enough to win elections anymore. Unfortunately they've been trained to be as vocal and rambunctious as possible. This will come back to bite them next elections when the far-right won't be placated by moderate candidates and splits the party even further.

Joe has it wrong playing to the hard hard right will win Republicans primaries. Most politicians play more toward their party base in the primaries, then in the general elections, they go more moderate. One of the problems the republicans have is their base is getting father away from the center. This in turn makes it either harder for their candidate to get back towards the center or they nominate one which does not want to get back to the center.
They can continue believing the myth we are a right center country but we are not. We want government to provide a safety net in times of problems. We want health care reform. We also want education reform. We do not want it that our young people start life in a huge hole just so they can get a decent job. The more they try to drive us to the right, in the long run, the more irreverent they will become.
