This was a classic piece of journalism. If only real journalist could do the same level of work, we'd all be better for it.

Here's hoping Mr. Stewart leads a resurgence in the concept of actually reporting news, as opposed to reading talking points for fun and profit.

Beck was undergoing a anal-cranium-ectomy, but doctors were unable to remove his head from his... well, from where it was stuck.

"I'll tell you what doesn't really speak well of our health care system; that in those sixteen months, the whole that they stitched up in Glenn Beck's a$$ hasn't healed enough for him to stop talking out of it."

No truer words were ever spoken on the subject! That's our Glenn, a real hemorrhoid, that just won't go away and insists on making his presence known.

A bit late to include this in the MMTV vault, but a classic nonetheless.

They should re-post it every single day until every man, woman and child in America has access to health care.

what does it say about us as a country that our best news source is from a comedian (my favorite one BTW ) and that we have to watch a comedy channel to even come close to actual news?

Jon Stewart is an impish genius. So is his spin off, Colbert. If the only way we can cut thru the BS at the moment is comedy, so be it. The tragedy is that those that need to see this the most, and get the right message from it, either would never watch it or are getting the wrong message (Colbert esp.).

Look at our changing cultural landscape over the last 30 years. Who are now our heroes, role-models, etc... It goes beyond politics and it ain't pretty.

What's even funnier is watching the right-wingers who think Colbert is serious (like the Bush Administration planners who invited him to speak at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, one of the most classic speeches of all time. Our "Mr News" would do very well watching that to learn how to really speak truth to power, and not in doggerel verse).

Due to media consolidation and ownership by large interests, they have no incentive to inform the american people. They don't want to alienate big advertisers by telling the truth about them.

Most big advertisers are insurance and drug companies.

The monied class doesn't want to arouse the "rabble"

Due to media consolidation and ownership by large interests, they have no incentive to inform the American people.
The decline really started when news was taken out of the public service division and made into its own profit center, run by the entertainment division. At that point, making the sponsors happy became more important than informing the public, and the big sponsors started shaping the news and pressuring the editors to remove information that might make them pull their ads.

The difference between what they did and what advertisers are now doing with Glenn Beck is that the news advertisers wanted embarrassing truth removed from the broadcasts. Beck's advertisers don't want to be associated with racism, hatred and lies.

        At least not in public.

Awesome job. I knew Beck was a hypocrit but this is amazing even for him. I guess he figures his Fox viewers never watched CNN.

a sad state of affairs for the network news outlets when a comedian is the most trusted news source in America. It's true.

Sheer "Hot Air" InSannity says almost every day "American has the best health care in the world."

      Based on what?

Outcomes? Nope. Not life expectancy, not infant survival, or cancer survival.

Efficiency (ie, getting what we pay for)? No. We spend more than anyone and the numbers show our results are not the best.

We don't really have health care in this country, anyway. We have sick care. We need health care.

Correct. Wellness planning is much less expensive than sickness.

Not according to the righties. Heard yesterday on Fox radio. "preventative medicine is actually more expensive than simply treating the sick". I didn't wait around for the explantion but the talker was warming up the audience for Rush.

yea I heard one of my arizona congressmen espousing this line of bull, to his credit he did mention that canada is a nation of only 50 milllion people but he did not mention what the percentage of MRI machines per person or the fact in Japan you only pay 5 to 10 dollars a pop for this service, when here you pay over 500 dollars a pop with insurance and over a 1.000 dollars a pop without insurance I know because I have had this test done with & without insurance

Brilliant. This should be played on every blog, on every network, and printed in every newspaper. This completely proves that teabagging hicks are clueless dolts that have zero concept of reality or facts.

Where did Beck get that clown checkered collar and tie outfit? Wow! That is butt ugly! Worst I've seen on tv since Ole BlunderRush got kicked off the air for wearing a dog's breakfast around his neck.

And wasn't it subtle of Beck to have a huge ad for his latest "book" over his left shoulder?

Classy guy - top to bottom...

One of my mother's favorite movie quotes, I think it was Peter Ustinov, from the movie Topkapi? (I think that's how it's spelled)
"You are a carbunkle on the backside of humanity."

You know, given how the likes of Beck and Limbaugh have such problems with their backsides - it's rather apropo, don't ya think?
