EMBED

BECK: Do the best thing that you can do for your country right now and please pray. Don't -- remember what we were like on September 12. Well, one of the reasons why we were like that on September 12 is because we knew what was important. Our families were important. Our country -- the Constitution was important to us. And God was important to us. If you believe this country was divinely inspired -- know what you believe. Was this country divinely inspired? If so, then it will be protected if we ask him to protect. If we put ourselves back into the rightful place, it will be protected.

You know, the other thing is -- and I hate to get all Jesus on you -- but if you believe in God, if you believe in light and dark, you know that God creates, and Satan perverts. He doesn't create, he perverts. He takes really, really good things and perverts them, and makes them really, really -- for instance, the Internet. The Internet is both just ama -- I mean, it's like -- it's like man, you know, being as close to God as you can get. I mean, that is -- what a great creation that is. All of the good the Internet can do. And look at the destructive power of pornography and everything else that is on the Internet. Perverts it into something that you now have to guard against.

America, if you believe that, America is not going to be destroyed by the force of darkness. America will be perverted. If we fed and freed more people, we will starve and imprison more people than any power on Earth. That would be the goal of the adversary. To distort it. To wreck the message that freedom is a good thing, that capitalism is a good thing, that a republic is a good thing. It can't be just be destroyed, it must be perverted and marked on the foreheads of everyone -- "this is really bad." That's what we're fighting against -- a perversion of this system. It's much worse than a collapse. It would almost make you hope for a collapse, if that indeed were true. I don't know what is true anymore. But get down on your knees, because you'll find it.

Becky's prayers don't go up any further than the ozone layer...but then, there is a percentage of the population thinking and desiring to be ignorant and fearful. That's a prayer that brings us the likes of Dick Cheney.

Exactly. As is the way with liars, eventually, they tell so many lies to cover the lies they've already told, they no longer know what is true. Beck needs to get psychological help for his pathological lying.

This is very disturbing. I believe in God, I often pray that my fellow citizens and leaders will make wise choices for the country, but I do not believe that God inspired the creation of America. I recognize that many people make the same types of prayers for their country as I do for mine. I do not believe our country is any more sacred than any other country. I don't really believe in Satan as a powerful god of evil. Make no mistake, I am not denying the existence of evil, I just don't believe in an evil god called Satan. But if you want to get right down to it, this man is evil and he is the one who is doing the perverting, and I will pray that we are protected from him.

No, that minister is doing an evil thing. I don't use that word very often, but some things are wrong or sinful and occasionally evil. Wishing or praying for someone to be sick is the worst kind of sin and I wouldn't ever wish that on my worst enemy, for a minister to do that and then tell people is the worst kind of evil, and he should know that, being a minister.

YAY! Sorry, but I've heard for so many years that 'christians' (or Xians) 'hate the sin but love the sinner', yet they usually then refer to (e.g.)that Evil Saddam Hussein. Your separation of the person from their acts is an actual demonstration of the proper use of language for those who make the claim of 'love sinner/hate sin'.

Thank you. I came here to practice my writing skills, so your compliment means a great deal to me. I have been impressed by so many of the contributors, in both their vocabulary and knowledge of issues. I was a contributor to another discussion board and so many of the contributors were really ignorant and poor writers. It used to drive me crazy. To me, very few people are evil, since I view evil as the choice to do something you know to be wrong without regret. There are very few people that I view as evil. Dick Cheney is one of them. Really, the man gives me the creeps, and my experiences have taught me to run when I get that vibe from someone. I may be wrong about Mr. Cheney, God will judge me if I have erred.

I have listened to this a couple of times and is he saying that President Obama is Satan, or working for Satan, and Obama is the dark to the true America's light. Mr. Beck needs to grow a set and say what he really is thinking rather than cloaking his meaning in, well, dark terms.

Oh, and I do not think this country was divinely inspired. If it had been the Founding Fathers would not have allowed slavery to continue after the Revolution.

OK, I read the excerpt and listened again. Obama is not Satan or working with Satan but he is going to pervert the American system and the American way of life. To be honest I am surprised that Mr. Beck did not throw in something about polluting "our precious bodily fluids"

I still think Mr. Beck needs to grow a set and explain what he is really talking about and not dance all around it.

And again, I do not think this country was divinely inspired. If it had been the Founding Fathers would not have allowed slavery to continue after the Revolution.

Does Mr. Beck realize that a lot of his audience believe what he is saying and if you put this last thought of his with everything he has been saying over the last several months, well, heck, I will go ahead and say it. If there is an attempt on the President's life Mr. Beck is going to be at least indirectly responsible. I say indirectly responsible because he is not calling for an attempt on the Presidents life but he is fanning the flames of a very dangerous fire.

I do not think Mr. Beck wants to see the President harmed in any way but he needs to listen to what he is saying, link everything he is saying together, and make a determination on what a possible outcome could be if some disturbed person takes all of his messages to heart.

I think you may be giving Blecch a little too much credit: His animosity towards the president is palpable. He's an idiot, but, like Sarah Palin, I think he knows full well what effect he's having on his more credulous listeners. He hates the president enough to want harm to come to him.

There is so much wrong with this... it's too much for a single comment. A complete column could be written addressing each sentence and it's inaccuracies and fallacies.

But there is one central message: Glenn is right. The perversion of America is well underway. It's not perversion by diversion from his "path of God" as he claims. It's perversion by people like himself, and Hannity, and limpaugh, and all the righty talkers and politicians who stir up the paranoid and the bigoted and the xenophobic and the greedy with their lies of "death panels" and "internment camps" and "illegal alien presidents". Those people have perverted policy discourse, they've perverted journalism, they've perverted society, and they've perverted the concept of what our government should be.

"Thall shalt not bear false witness", Glenn. Why don't you lead the charge into righteousness by adhering to the very fundamentals your campy commentaries promote?

Is there anybody in his audience who actually buys into this nostalgia for September 12th? People certainly experienced a sense of solidarity, but that's because everyone had witnessed a terribly traumatizing event.

If one wants to talk about perversion: how is it, exactly, that Beck has come to present a traumatized public as the ideal citizenry?

Beck just wants to go back to the general public emotion of the time that permitted Bush to run roughshod over the constitution and justify torture. Cheney, likewise, is jonesing for that feeling, since it looks like torture investigations are going to advance. Beck couldn't care less about solidarity. If he did, why wouldn't he join with the 70% of the population that wants public health insurance, and urge those against it to change their position?

Well, I think we can official declare that Beck's program is an amalgam of church and state. And that's why so many people listen to him. He's not a pundit, a politician, or a journalist. He's not even a commentator.

      He's a priest.

He's not providing education, opinion, or comedy.

      He's providing sermons.

And he's not preaching my religion, so I don't listen to a word he says. That's all.

Let all those wingnuts follow his religion blindly, but I hope those people understand that he's not looking for political change as much as he's looking to renovate religious beliefs to the point that he becomes the new evangelist of the 21st century.

      And he's looking for suckers.

What I take from this is that he's equating the "perversion" of the country to the Democratic and/or minority takeover of this country.

And by asking people to pray, he's targeting the religious sheep who will do anything in the name of the Lord.

So IMO this is just another marching order for the christ-o-fascists to take the law into their own hands because it's something GOD wants them to do.

I think he's getting more improvisational. That's not exactly a good thing when you're running a television show. In radio it may be helpful to be able to roll with the punches thrown at you by listeners or bloggers, but I think Beck just needs an outlet to express his frustration without unleashing it on the public.
