This guy is bitching about the President of the United States addressing the children of this country about the importance of education.

I'd call him a buffoon, but that would insult buffoons.

It isn't that he's addressing the children, it's the pro obama materials that go along with it that bother me. But you'll never see this because nothing of mine ever gets posted.

What "pro-Obama" materials are you talking about?

Got some links to them somewhere?

And, yes, too bad nothing of yours ever gets posted, and yet, here it is. How come every single time someone like you says or writes something along the lines of, "I bet they won't dare to post what I've written because it's not in line with their beliefs." we always get to see it?

Is this like how the NY Times, you're sure, won't cover a certain story because it looks bad for a liberal somewhere, and yet, lo and behold, they always cover said story?

This is Obama's chance to sit down with the kids and tell them why he wants to kill grandma.

And this is the President's first shot at picking out the kids who are really big for their age to serve in his private military force.

I had a bit of a masochistic morning and decided to listen to a bit of Glenn Beck and Mark Steyn... and people were calling in freaking out about Obama's address to their children.

"I don't want them involved in politics!"
"I can't be there to watch it first!"
"Why doesn't he do one in the evening that I can watch with them?" (Not enough complaining about his addresses to the adults already?)

And I really didn't understand it, because:
      1. I would've loved to have a special address from the President in school. Little kids go crazy for that.
      2. It's not like he can get into their brains when they're wearing their tin foil hats, anyway.
      3. Most of them will probably go in to school and whine about it (because of all the stuff they hear their parents say) and ruin it for the kids who want to see and hear it, and once they get home, whether they're excited and enlightened or not, their parents will ruin it all for them.

Oh, now I get it... these kids will all go home with hope and lots of questions, and their parents will have to actually discuss things with them, and this whole thing will burst the bubbles they're trying to shelter them in.

Man GOP children must be pretty weak willed. I mean heck a 10 to 15 mintue speech is all that is needed to brainwash these kids.
Heck even an hour isnt going to change anyones view.

I mean heck if an hour could change someone's views I'd be a extreme right conservative by now, as I listen to what MMFA posts for at least an hour a day.

Wow I never realized all the weak willed children were republicans

I guess from now on whenever I hear a parent complain about how stubborn their kid is and how they never listen to an adult I'll assume the kid and his family are democrats if he's that strong willed....

Goes to show you that racist people are ungodly and stupid. There is no other way to explain it. If you teach your kids right you never have to worry about a 15 to 20 minute speech from anybody.

      Two things...

Maybe Rush should address the kids who aren't allowed to see Obama (how stupid is that, really?). Rush would scare the hell out of the little ones and make them life long Democrats.

And the other thing... this guy has kids? Yikes.

This idiot does realise that teachers will be in the room with the students of America, oh and The President of the United States will not personally be there.

But no, it's no different than 10 children hanging out with a creepy next door neighbour alone. Not the same at all.

These people have lost all rational thought. They're just a bunch of monkeys braying at the moon now. They've completely lost their minds.

Stupidity is coming from everywhere. Do you really think Obama would try to do anything to mis-educate or mislead any children in this environment? You know damn well Obama could not get away with that, yet, you feel ok talking stupid. The reason why it is so many stupid and racist people is because this society rewards them. I'm here to tell you ignorant hateful people that it isn't right and you can't make it right. You need someone to interpret the Bible to you, because you can not be a Christian, talking and acting like the devil.

that's cool too because Obama probably will hope that if your child ever made his own decisions at some point in his life and was interested in his perspective on things, that your kid will come to him and ask or seek truth to decide what his understanding is. I believe that if that ever happens, The President will make himself available to even your son. This parenting behavior of doctrine that is chosen and not selected is the same kind that the KKK use in their homes. SO with that being said, let your child determine the future and the course of a new world without having to be a Glenn Beck and spew daddy's idealism with whole in his understanding of what it is he is discussing. Prepare him for a real world. Obama will have an audience regardless of your child being present. My children will take the place of yours.

What is he now? A child molester? You don't want him to talk to your kids "alone?" What in hell is that supposed to mean? Do you want a Republican response? Do you want Mitch McConnell to come on afterwards and say "Well now kids the President is just trying to tell you what to think. You don't need an education. Hundreds of people have done very well without an education." Is that what you want?

Is this not America? The home of the free and the brave? Are we not
a democratic society? The United States Constitution does not give
the federal government or especially the executive branch of the
federal government the right to determine the curriculum taught in our
local schools. Therefore, I am opposed to the intrusion of President
Obama into the education of my children. The airing of this speech
and the resulting assignments to follow stands in direct opposition to
our parental rights. The Public Education System is to teach
reading, writing and arithmetic not religion or morality. Isn't that
why prayer was removed from school? Or is this just a one way
street? My beliefs and that of my children must not be heard but the
agenda of the Obama camp and his legion of followers have cart blanche?

You can dress Obama's speech any way you like but the truth remains.
Get them young and fill their impressionable minds with your political
philosophy. Regardless of anything President Obama says about "the
importance of education and our students need to work hard and
persevere in order to be successful." It is shamefully self
      aggrandizement.

Due to the obvious disregard of the Jenks School District to parental
concerns, I will be keeping both of my children home from school that
day. They also will not participate in any assignments put forth in
response to President Obama's speech. If they are required to read a
book about President Obama and write a report regarding him as our
President, they will not do either. Instead, they will choose a book
about a former President and will complete the assignment in this
way. This is not a study of history but a shameless attempt by our
President to set himself up as a hero in the eyes of our
      impressionable children.

Wow, Leah . . . I hope you brayed as loudly and as lengthfully when Dumbya spent time IN a classroom to read "The Pet Goat" to schoolkids while the nation was under attack -- or when Ronnie Raygun held a Q & A session in 1988 with kids from FOUR DIFFERENT SCHOOLS that was BROADCAST ON C-SPAN . . .

Yes, this is a democracy and Obama is OUR democratically elected president. For that alone, despite your views on his policies, he at least deserves your respect for his accomplishments, and, especially, your respect for the office he holds.

Also, there is NOTHING in the lesson plan put out by the Department of Education about reading a book about the President, or writing a paper about him. Some educational, non-governmental websites and groups may be offering different lesson plans, but not the Department of Education. Even, though your children are not required to, I am curious why you oppose your children reading a book about a sitting President? Ever heard of a current events class? The first African- American president is certainly a point of historical importance. Your children can also write critically of the President if they chose to.

I think I've got it! Parents in red states have found over time, that if their children become educated, they will move to a blue state where they feel more comfortable. On the other hand, if the parents encourage their kids to develop skills in football, cheerleading, videogames and cruising the mall, then their options will be limited and they will stay near home. Then they may enjoy their grandchildren without worry about "red flight".

        Seems simple.

To the students who listen to Barack's speech and take his advice:

Come to Seattle, you'll love it!

To the ones who stay home and miss it:

        YOU MISSED IT !

        Doh'

Obama's speech will teach neither religion nor morality. It's simply a message stressing the benefits of educational opportunities. Clearly your children's education matters to you. Why should you consider this secular, nonpartisan speech an infraction upon your rights as a parent?
