The President of the United States must first be vetted by local school boards before school children should be allowed to hear him? What exactly has Barack Obam done in less than nine months in office to merit such pre-emptive scrutiny. Oh, I know...he's a Muslim, Marxist, Communist, radical, racist, America hating, black man...who was actually born in Kenya and is therefore disqualified from serving as President.

I hope these people burn in hell for the evil they are spreading...

Treating the President of the United States like a Pedophile?
Hatred for the First Black President should be a little more inert.

"I don't want that Black President talking to my Kids"
I guess in the "Rights" mind it's Obama's fault the Economy's on the Skids.
"He's a Communist, He's a Socialist" I guess if you say it often enough it becomes an accepted Fact.
Can you imagine what the Conservatives would call Obama (The Prophet) if he Dared to try a "Fire Side Chat"

If you look at the records of presidents, however, if Obama is some kind of Marxist, socialist fascist, ect. then what is Nixon who did far more liberal policies then Obama has so far...

We are talking here about the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! The local dogcatcher could talk to a first grade class without being "vetted" by the school board! As far as I know, showing this speech is NOT mandatory, but for heaven's sake he is PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! You tend to cut him a little slack and show the speech. You would (or at least should) do that for any sitting President.
These women also make lot of claims about Obama's message. Now I have not seen the materials prepared by the Department of Education, but I am guessing that you would need an electron microscope to see as far between the lines as these women do.

This just further solidify the hypocrisy, hatred, and bigotry of the right-wing. They're truly pathetic. I can't believe that they think anyone in America with an I.Q. above 2 will actually vote any of them into office in the midterms and in 2012. The only difference between 2008, the midterms and 2012 for the GOP will be a greater margin of defeat. To me it sounds like many of them need to go back to school They're truly pathetic.

"Wasn't run past the board of education" seems to be a big sticking point with these wackos. And yet, you know darn well that had it been "run past" the board of education, the whining would have been along the lines of "the liberal board of education enthusiastically endorsed this presidential indoctrination".

I'm tired. I can't take much more of teh stoopid.

I've read all the posts on this thread and noticed the race baiting by you and many others. Yesterday, there was a thread concerning 'people who don't like Obama are racist'. Nothing was said about race on Fox, concerning this thread, yet many posts on this thread dragged race into it. This is exactly the kind of idiotic dialogue from the left that makes liberals look like pouty sissymarys. If I still had school age kids, I would let them listen to Obama but would perform an immediate 'honosty check' conversation with them once they got home. The new 'Pledge' that Hollywood wants our kids to recite is proof enough for me that Obama does, in fact, want a lock-step majority of young Americans who will dutifully act on his agendas without a peep. The pledge states " I pledge to be a SERVANT to my president.......". In the America I live in, the president is MY servant.

              Oh, here's Americorp's pledge:

              The AmeriCorps Pledge

I will get things done for America -
              to make our people safer,
              smarter, and healthier.

              I will bring Americans together
              to strengthen our communities.

              Faced with apathy,
              I will take action.

              Faced with conflict,
              I will seek common ground.

              Faced with adversity,
              I will persevere.

              I will carry this commitment
with me this year and beyond.

              I am an AmeriCorps member,

Nothing was said about race on Fox

<Sigh> Must we document it all again for you.

On another thread you said all the outrage was about socialism and then you provided a list of false socialist policies. I went on to say that NOTHING Obama has done OR WILL DO is socialist.

This has nothing to do with debt. Nothing to do with socialism. Nothing to do with fictional government take-overs.

The level of hate, especially over encouraging kids to stay in school, can ONLY be boiled down to one thing - these racists can't swallow the black man from the White House talking to their kids.

And...why can't you trust your president enough that you would have to have an "honesty check" with you kids? What has he done in the last 7 months to warrant that?

That really is the mentality here. These nuts are totally stuck at the infantile "magical thinking" stage: if I think it, it is true.

          For example:

          the earth is 6,000 years old;
          my child will never have pre-marital sex, so they don't need sex education;
          the earth is not warming;
a black man is not President of the United States.

Will we ever get to a point in American history where conservatives think critically? It really is a detriment to the entire nation. Do these people hear what they are even saying? Our school system is in trouble, our students need direction and the President is simply asking them to work hard in school because education is important. How controversial and communist of him. I have to believe that objective Americans see this as a positive but the only people that make it on TV or have articles written about them are the irrational nutbags.

Actually, once upon a time, there were Conservatives (as opposed, literally, to Neocons) who did think. Long ago, I believed that Conservatives were gay-bashing, war-mongering, union-hating, anti-education/science. (Unfortunately, true of the Neocons who have hijacked the Republican Party)
However, check out a few quotes:

        * My faith in the future rests squarely on the belief that man, if he doesn't first destroy himself, will find new answers in the universe, new technologies, new disciplines, which will contribute to a vastly different and better world in the twenty-first century. Recalling what has happened in my short lifetime in the fields of communication and transportation and the life sciences, I marvel at the pessimists who tell us that we have reached the end of our productive capacity, who project a future of primarily dividing up what we now have and making do with less. To my mind the single essential element on which all discoveries will be dependent is human freedom.
        o With No Apologies (1979)
        * I think every good Christian ought to kick Falwell right in the ass.
o Said in July 1981 in response to Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell's opposition to the nomination of Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court, of which Falwell had said, "Every good Christian should be concerned." as quoted in Ed Magnuson, "The Brethren's First Sister," Time Magazine, (20 July, 1981)
        * Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.
o Said in November 1994, as quoted in John Dean, Conservatives Without Conscience (2006)
        * The big thing is to make this country, along with every other country in the world with a few exceptions, quit discriminating against people just because they're gay. You don't have to agree with it, but they have a constitutional right to be gay. And that's what brings me into it.

So what, and how is this precident over other newsworthy events. This is a personal dislike and does not cover a national interest. So what. My children will be at every event dealing with issues of national importance present and future. As a matter of fact, there is a lot to learn from these events. Denial and not dealing with issues has proven to expose a lot about relationships and development. While I appreciate her choice to do as she feels, report the underlying motive. After the election, the attitude of nearly all the students I work with completely changed. In recent years, many of the students have come from inner-city schools and have a certain jaded outlook on life and education's purpose as it is. The program we have pushes them to work harder, take more challenging classes, and gives them the skills to prepare for college and actually ATTEND once they graduate. Seeing the election of Obama, knowing how he grew up and what he had to do to get there, completely shifted their ideas of what is really possible and what they are really capable of.

I think it is incredibly sad that parents want to take that away from their children. Even if they never go to college, working as hard as they can and just graduating high school is a big enough hurdle for some students, and it still puts them ahead of those who get nothing out of school or just drop out. I know younger children may be more starstruck, because THE PRESIDENT IS TALKING TO THEM!!!, but even they're aware of how huge this whole thing is, and it's an immensely important message.

Someone commented yesterday about the ones screaming the most right now are the ones who gave up on their educations. I got nothing but grief and bitterness from my father growing up anytime I excelled in high school or college, and if I valued his opinion at all at the time, it would've had a huge impact on my own outlook on education. I don't know why parents are so afraid of their children succeeding in life.

Dick Gephardt thought it was inappropriate to use Department of Education funds for what he called a campaign advertisement. The press that covered it mostly seemed in favor, quoting kids with positive things to say about the President's address.

(what the right fears is going to happen)

Hello, kids. My name is President Obama.
In the next few minutes you're going to see some flashing lights and hear my calm and soothing voice. Don't be afraid. Just keep your eyes on the screen and listen to my voice.

      (Insert hypnotic programming here)

See kids, that wasn't so bad. Now your teacher will be handing out workbooks so you can write down the names of all the people who have said bad things about me. Don't worry if they're friends or even your parents, just write their names down. I promise to take very good care of them. And don't forget, you can always report other people to your teacher at any time during the school year.

Now when I say, Lennin, you can start writing. And one more thing, kids--stay in school.

Good, glad to hear it. Let's see just how many kids are held out of school that day. A boycott is a lot like voting, it's actually even more powerful than voting (because we can boycott every day, but we vote only once every year or two or four), and either way, it's a verifiable means of registering how you feel about something. I like it, and say yes, if you want to keep your kid out of school that day, fine, do it... it's like an election, and we'll get to tally the votes at the end of the day, and see just how many voted that way, and where they are.

I say that Fox and Republicans will lose this election next Tuesday in a monumental landslide, as usual.

The problem is, even if it were only a dozen kids around the entire country, the MSM and Fox especially will treat it like BushieCo's "mandate" in '04.

I hope it turns into a nightmare for the idiot parents who actually follow through on their threat. Nothing like their kids skipping school more and more and using the excuse "it was an obama exercise". They deserve stupid children.

She's equating watching the President make a speech to watching certain movies at school which require permission slips?

I can't watch this clip because the video isn't working for me lately but have any of these people gone out and read the materials? I think someone said yesterday the text of the speech has even been posted. Anyone who keeps their kids home without having reviewed those first is doing it for purely partisan political reasons. Actually even if they have reviewed them they are probably doing it for purely partisan political reasons.

Probably a phony/bogus version, if you go the Whitehouse.gov page, here's the link about the speech... check the Resources Page link for more information.

I love how my favorite TV bimbo prefaces this with a riff on the stock Fox News phrase "some say" when presenting people who "disagree" with Obama. In this case "some parents"

Just so it's all fair and balanced, I'm sure Fox will have some parents who are glad that the popularly and legally elected president of our country will be encouraging children to stick with education and do their very best for America and Americans.

Right? After all, I think "some say" those kinds of things.

I guess if your taking people from an ignorant comminity you would be "indoctrinating" them into an educated one.
