Then democrats fight amongst yourselves and decide if this what you want....and face the consequences.
Suddenly there was a void. Parishoners were crying out for service and there were not enough Latin speaking Clergy to fill the need, so they turned to the "less literate" English speaking clergy to fill what was missing, and English speaking service spread like wild fire. It prevented the fading of the Christian religion and actally ensured the Catholic churches dominance in the world's religions in the future.
Now the English language is one of the most dominant languages on the planet, and is considered the language of "Technology and Commerce."
We are greater than the sum of our parts, PC. You are correct when you say that actions have consequences; but, so do inactions. History will determine who was right or wrong.
How undemocratic and backward is that?
Under such a dopey undemocratic hurdle as that, we'd never have a President of the United States, for his or her inability to capture 60% of the vote, despite having the support of a majority of the voters...
The minority of voters would stop every election, if they had the crazy power to over-rule the majority.
And of course, not only does the U.S. Senate's strange Rule 22 (that empowers a two fifths minority of Senators to stop the other three fifths majority), not only does it defeat a majority of the U.S. Senate, it defeats a majority of the House of Representaives too!
Because anything a majority of the House passes gets sopped also, by this strange minority of U.S. Senators with their strange Rule 22 power!
We could have unanimity in the House, all 435 members behind a Bill, and yet a minority of the Senate stops all of them and all Congressional business, just because they feel like it...
That's a strange corruption of Democracy if I've ever heard of one.
It's what the Budget Reconciliation Process is supposed to address, and thank goodness for it.
The fight for this is not with republicans, but within the democratic party. If this were such a great thing, the politicians would be on this like white on rice. Create whatever disaster you want and either sink or swim as a party.
That is why I encourage democratic legislators to stand up, if this is such a winner.
Eventually, enough representatives will stand up.
However, my felling is, you will still claim victory and say Democrats lost because some common sense compromise took place.
Just like the President's remarks to school children.
