Hey Joe, ever think of starting a pretzel factory? You sure contorted yourself into one, trying to defend your crackpot idea about Obama's speech today.

Notice how many times he called Obama "charismatic?"
and he used the buzz-phrase "slippery slope"

        what a tool...

Amazingly appropriate use of the word "annihilate."

Wow. That guy is saying that Obama is sooooo persuasive to children, that merely hearing a speech on any subject would make it difficult for their parents to pass along their own judgment and convictions. I thought the problem was that he is a traitorous commie who wants to indoctrinate the children into socialism? Maybe the truth is that he is a liberal democrat who wants to pass a good healthcare bill. Having no good argument not to pass healthcare, except that the money backing republicans opposes any reform that would cost them money (which would obviously be a big loser as an ad campaign), the GOP must trot out this kind a blather to use up as much air in the room as possible. That's the point of all this, to take up valuable space that might be used for real ideas and actual progress.

Watkins shouldn't be afraid to admit that his side is just flat out wrong on this one. But, he just had to keep digging and digging.

Those were some of the worst arguments ever made...

He should have come out and said "President Obama is so smart, savvy and intelligent, that he may convince the children of today that greed is not an end, that we should help the least amongst us, and empathy for our fellow man is a good thing"

Of course parents can't compete with that, not when they are trying to teach their children hatred and fear. How can they compete.

"Son, you can't listen to that man, he's a black man and you should be afraid of him"
      "But Dad, he's the President"
"We didn't vote for him son, so he's not our President"

The republicans have no ideas, no vision, no leadership.
They are the party of No, the party of fear, suspicion, and hatred.

      What an idiot.

You mean if Obama couldn't string two coherent sentences together, the right wouldn't have a problem? BUT because he speaks well, kids shouldn't be allowed to hear him?

Good God, by those standards that just leaves us with Bush II and Sarah the Quitter.

What this man basically said was that parents of today have no control over their children and that the values that they have taught their children can be wiped away with one exposure to Mr. Obama's "charismatic" personality.

My children [they are grown] would have been listening to the President's speech and when they came home, we would have talked about what he said. That's how we always did things when they were younger. I had people tell me that Schindler's List was "too intense" for my 12 year old and 14 year old. I watched it and decided they needed to see it. We all watched it together and talked about it. My 12 year old son had more insight into the movie than the people who warned me about the "nudity."

      Be a parent.

If this speech to kids was "fine", according to Watkins, then why all the clamor over it? The "indoctrination proclamation" is all like the other GOP bullet points: HYPOTHETICAL.

Allowing for something under this Presidency could lead to other things that the GOP perceives as being dastardly, but not only is that percentage of risk low, but pundits twist the "could" into "will" along the way, as if they have the capability to predict the future.

If pundits were so blessed with that gypsy ability, they wouldn't be PUNDITS.

      This is a non-issue.

So, "Pastor" Watkins, why is YOUR CHURCH failing its children? Why haven't YOU been able to improve graduation rates in the children you PERSONALLY influence?

Why are you such a miserable failure at everything you touch?

Are there no longer any issues where we as Americans can set aside political differences and work together? If the education of our children is not it, then there are none. Mr. Watkins view that the President should not speak to students because he may actually convince them to stay in school is nuts. I don't ask the political views if the ER doctor who is saving my life, or the fireman carrying me out of a burning building. Can we now expect parents to start asking teachers what party they belong to and their views on social issues before they let their kids go to school?

This insane parsing and twisting of every little word uttered by this President has gotten in to Wonderland territory. Even now that the speech has been given and proven to be non-controversial, they still can't let it go, admit they were wrong and move on. Now the speech was wrong because it was too good and given by a great orator. HUH!?

This definitely proves the moral, ethical and intellectual bankruptcy of the "loyal" opposition.

that is precisely my own problem. i thought that there was no level the neo cons were willing to stoop to to try and derail our president.

i was sadly proven wrong. education is apolitical. and the fact that it has been made so by neo cons has just proven that 90 percent of the current republican party has sold their souls and their honor and integrity for the sake of stopping our president at any and all costs.
