Pat, could you tell me if Jesus was a socialist? And if possible, can you show me where in the Bible it supports or refutes your claim?

Funny i would agree with Robinson if you just switched Catholicism for Islam.......(in that both groups have a minority if violent nutjobs who want to force their beliefs on you in additon to their majority of normal folks)

Catholism outgrew the need to force convictions centuries ago. Christianity in general has a violent history.

Its true they generally dont force them in a violent way.
But they still attempt all the time to do it in a non violent way (such as going door to door, or ambushing you on the street to ask if Jesus loves you and other such things).
As long as a religon proselytizes it is trying to force their convictions on you

I think Pat Robertson is violent. I wonder if he knows that his religion was and is also a VIOLENT religion and continues to be. With him talking about other religions, and also a priest from Arizona calling out homosexuals, Barney Frank, and President Obama. Not to mention saying that people's kids are getting recruited! WTF! I honestly can say this country is just showing its face that had a mask on it for years. Terrible!!

The Oklahoma City bombing was planned and carried out by right wing CHRISTIAN terrorists. The Klan uses the Bible to justify its hate and racism. Pastors call for God to kill this President. Every religion can be twisted by flawed humans to promote hatred and violence. To call out another religion for the flaws of its members is "casting the first stone."

And Christianity isn't violent? Let's look at the Crusades, and the Witch Trials, and how we treated the Indians from Columbus forward and the Wars of Religion that engulfed Europe for 200 years. I think you will find when it comes to innocent blood being spilt, Christianity is as violent or more violent than Islam. Pat Robertson lost all my respect back in the early 1980's when he used to show the First Amendment and then fade into a freedom of religion clause from the Soviet Union. I think what he was trying to say was the Freedom of Religion is a Communist plot, and we should all embrace his version of God. No thanks, if Heaven is full of 700 Club members, I'll take my chances in Hell.

Yep. Their god is so very small and puny and vindictive, and the Universe is very VAST and beyond human comprehension. That should inspire a bit of humility.

          Correct Epkklk851 and Mary.

We have our choice between the Old Testament God of vengeance and smiting or the New Testament, Socialist, Son of God.

I'll follow the boys teachings and not the old man's. He seems like such a hard ass, but then that's just me.

Never saw it, even though parts of it and "Clerks" were filmed in my town. I'll see it eventually.

I actually liked Dogma, even though, as a Catholic, I admit it is a bit sacriligious. Another great send up of religion, aimed at Protestants, is "Saved."

See, being a former Catholic boy myself, I thought it was pretty respectful of the religion for the most part, with little jibes and some embellishment in there.

Yes, but it was definately a Catholics movie. I don't mind the occasional poke, especially when done by someone who's in on the joke. I went through a Fundie phase, so "Saved" just skewers so many people I knew.

I LOVED that part of the movie, and the Cardinal played by George Carlin was even better.

"Jesus wasn't sent here to give us the willies..."

Funny thing about that movie, it showed Catholicism in a pretty good light I thought, and people were out in droves protesting it before they had even seen it. I remember hearing an interview with Kevin Smith saying he went out to one of the protests, and protested with other Catholics against his own movie.

              Kinda funny that guy.

The difference is that one is happening right now. Every great nation and religion has a violent past. Islam does not fit into the multicultural, multinational world if they won't let not believers live in peace.

Yup, the day don't go by without some muslum trying to convert me to Islam.
Last time the Methodist Ready Alert Squad saved me by symbolicly arresting the Turkish Ambassador.
          This of course means War!
So I'm keeping my head low for the duration.

          Spasticly,

Islam actually does fit into a multicultural/multinational world. Take for example, Islam in the US fits in just fine with no issues. And take for another example, Lebannon, where Islam, Judaism, and Christians live together fairly peacefully. And so on, and so forth.

Only the extremist portions of the practitioners of Islam believe that everyone has to be Muslim, just like a lot of Christian sects believe similar things.

When it comes to nonsense, Robertson has a patent on it.

Remember, this is the guy who claims that Jews engineered Lincoln's death at the hands of Booth.

He's been spewing nonsense for years---why stop now?
