I'm just going to dismiss that as "heat of the moment" jargon.

Whatever. Not really news to me.

It is not his only "heat of the moment."

On a MNF telecast in 2004 he mocked John Kerry for his "flip-flops" and caught a lot of deserved flack.

Just relax on that. It's a non-issue. It's not political.

Purple - What is it, are you like Al Michaels' conscience? How in the world would you know?

God, I hope not. I'd much rather be Bob Costas's conscience.

To me, this isn't a political issue. Now if it was Howie Carr showing up on Red Sox broadcasts to chortle and chuckle and make fun of "moonbats", that's different.

Really, I just don't see a big deal about it unless Al shows up on the show in the future.

Indeed, he mocked John Kerry for his "flip-flops" while shelling out thousands of dollars to Bush/Cheney.

"Don't ask me how I came up with that [promo]..."

OK, I won't, because I don't need to, because I know that Fox News Channel is suffering right now from as much bad press as they ever have, and from as much unpopularity and condemnation as ever ("heckuva job beckie!"), and they're calling in all favors, all 'friends', and even purchasing advertising across the media divides... it wouldn't surprise me to see 'promos' for them and hear their name inadvertantly dropped in affectionate ways, even on MSNBC and CNN too.

It's just a case of bedfellows who are not so much strange, as they are simply in the same corrupted and sick business.

        devo 2020,

You and lefty pals need to get over it. A player named 'Fox' made the tackle along with several others from the Steelers.

With all the unreported news that media matters (for very little) ignores, they choose to waste bandwidth for this?

        Go Stillers!!

No really sure, it seems a bit silly. However, Michaels often drags his support of the GOP into the booth. This is not the first time. By the way, he gave big money to Bush/Cheney for their re-election bid - and he gave them many a shout out on MNF to them as well.

I guess it IS odd that one network would allow free advirtising for a competitor. I guess it plays against the whole "Mainstream media is liberal" myth, but still: IT WAS A FOOTBAL GAME! I don't think ANYONE ever accused Football broadcasts of being liberlally biased!

Agreed, it was just a football game.

As an aside, I wonder what Michaels thought of the show's "Obama has a deep-seated hatred for white people" episode.

never-mind that Linebacker #57's name is Keyaron Fox.
I can see being a broadcaster that it was easier to say "Fox and friends" than to say "Fox and the rest of the Steelers defense"

It was that putz Chris Collinsworth who said to Michaels "Gee...I wonder where you got that from? (connecting the phrase Michelas just said hinting at "Fox and Friends" program.

Blame him for the connection...because Collinsworth is a horrible, HORRIBLE commentator.

Agree that Michaels' comment was stupid. But, seriously, whatever his political stripe, Collinsworth is an excellent commentator. Very perceptive, knowledgeable and not afraid to point out bad calls and/or call out superstars that other announcers think are sacred cows.

I stand by what I said about both Michaels and Collinsworth. Collinsworth isn't perfect, but he explains plays in non-football jargon, points out weaknesses that aren't immediately apparent, and even gets into analyzing line play. Most announcers are too lazy to do that (see: Michaels, Al). I still remember a Patriots-Dolphins game a couple years ago where Michaels and the supposedly infallible John Madden talked about everything but football as the action was going on. The Fins were out of the playoff hunt, sure, but they were making a comeback and it was a good game. Yet all the announcers could do is ignore the action.

Would be interested in hearing your specific reasons why Collinsworth isn't any good at his job.

Shouldn't that have been said by Joe Buck or some other FOX Sports announcer? I think it would have been more appropriate to give a shout out to Morning Joe.

I'm willing to pick up the flag on this one and call it unintentional contact. It was a joke. I don't think we should read too much into it. The guy has been on TV forever. much of which I have watched, and aside from a few occassional slipups, which I would not have known about without reading this article, he's been pretty good about keeping his politics out of his commentary. I recently found out he's a conservative from Keith Obermann, who mentioned it on his show and also mentioned that he has great respect for Michaels. And let's not forget the great job he did during the SF World Series earthquake. I'm sure if I was on TV as much as him during the Bush years, I would have let slip a lot more comments than he has.
