And, Brian, since the explosion of czars began under Bush, what do you have to say about that ?

Too bad there wasn't a check-box for "Nut-Job Neoconservatives" while vetting advisors and department heads in the previous administration. That might have saved us from an unnecessary pre-emptive war.

The "Nut-Job Neoconservatives" check box is on the Fox Noise and Clear Channel applications. It's a make or break item at those companies.

Where will either of these "journalists" get jobs when Faux is through with them. We know the blonde will succeed somewhere in Wyoming but what about these two guys? No legs, no cleveage and no personal thoughts. Do any traveling circuses have reading acts?
I would like to see any of them debate someone away from their little Fox nest and be challenged on their "thoughts".
I would pay to see that. 'Tis a shame.

This is just like the old "teleprompter" outrage we saw of Obama using one to give his speeches, conservatives grabbed onto that as if nobody else had ever used one before.

Czars, or, more appropriately, advisers were being used for a long time before President Obama, and for a long time before President Bush.

How can these people be a part of a "shadow government" when the only "power" that they have (the un-confirmed advisers) is that of an adviser, which means, they advise, work on policy, but don't implement it, nor write legislation normally.

If, as the chyron says above, there are 33 "Czars" and 9 have been confirmed by the Senate, doesn't that mean that there are only 24 "czars" then? If 9 have been confirmed, they were vetted, and then Obama is back below the level of so called "czars" that President Bush had (the unconfirmed type).

And guess what? I didn't have a problem with Bush's "czars" either. Why? Because normally what happens is that a President is going to try and surround himself with the best people possible as advisers, people whose judgement he trusts, as well as their ability to provide expert level information on whatever subject they're talking about. Not only that, but MOST of the executive staff is never vetted by Congress, as in, the people closest to the President, who advise him the MOST, are not confirmed type people.

Also, it's just silly, these "czar" rampages going on. It's like conservatives woke up, and found out this was going on yesterday, when, actually, it's been going on since right about Nixon's era.

Actually, I think it's more pathetic than that. The movers and shakers within the Republican Propaganda Mill are fully aware of everything you've written... they just don't care. Their job is to get the drooling Troglodytes in the GOP base all excited and pi$$ed off by telling them that this is something new and threatening.

you're exactly right here. also notice the words the fox bots use when discussing this story. brian calls the czars a "shadow govenment". that plays right into the tin foil hat and black helicopter crowd. i will give fox credit for one thing, they are good at selecting the right phrases to gin up their crazies. these people at fox are not as stupid as they would like us all to think. this is a planned strategy to keep their nutty views watching so that fox can enrich itself and the cast without any reguard for the country. they are the worst kind of traitors against this county. spreading lies and propaganda to enrich themselves while the country tears itself apart.

I think we have Frank Luntz to thank for that. If Republicans spent half as much time and money on formulating policy as they did on formulating propaganda, the country would be much better off.

your correct, as a matter of fact i think that if the right was real smart, after the last eight years of disaster you would think that they would work hard to formulate policy to help move our country forward in a positive way to show that the past was an abboration. instead they just choose to reinforce the notion that they are intellectualy bankrupt and have no plan for this country other than to try and stoke up the fears of the base to get their power back. i hope we are not so stupid as a country that we give it back to them.

I'm guessing Brian missed the last shadow government that ended when Cheney went back to his ranch in Wyoming.

Wikipedia lists Dr. Ashton Carter as the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics as a weapons czar. As an Under Secretary, he doesn't advise the President directly, he advises the Secretary of Defense. Another difference between the Senate-confirmed Dr. Carter and some of the other "czars" is that he actually has a staff and a great deal of oversite over several Department of Defense agencies (which spend an enormous amout of the military budget under their various programs.)

Karl Rove was Bush's top "czar," there was no vetting of Rove because he was a paid "advisor."

Maybe there should be a "Dumbass Check Here" box as part of vetting people to host talk shows on FOX "News".

That's the other thing that they're forgetting. Although, probably still an un-popular party affiliation, it's not illegal, and there is nothing wrong with it. It's just another viewpoint afforded to people living in the US under the whole freedom of speech thing.

Cabinet level positions are vetted. 'Czars' are not cabinet level advisers, however. And, the ones who oversee government agencies, like the ONDCP, are vetted.

"Communist check here" Perfect. After fifty years of cold war, one that ended twenty years ago, peoples' heads still ring with propaganda. Did we have enemies at one time who were communist? Yes. Do you feel threatened by the Soviet Union? If so, you are living in the past, not the present. There is no Soviet Union. But you can still be brought to heel and piddle all over yourself if someone yells 'Commie!' right? And that makes you a perfect fit for FOX 'News'.

Actually, there is no true communism anywhere. Communism, by definition, is not an attainable society. It requires that all people are equal in all things. The Brook Farm experiment in transcendental communalism in the 1800s pretty much showed that humans cannot achieve true communism. Communism is similar to utopianism . . . ain't happening.
