Okay, this is yet another example of Glennie's ignorance of politics and the English language. He has no idea what a Progressive is. He read some book, probably something by the late whackjob, Cleon Skousen, who hated anything liberal and Glennie decided to tar anybody and everybody with this tainted brush. He thinks it is a synonym of Marxist, Communist, Fascist, Democrat, liberal, and doggydo. Hey, you know, he got the title of his book right. Arguing with Glenda Becky Boy is arguing with an idiot.

You're not giving enough credit to idiots. Arguing with Beck is like arguing with a sponge dipped in alcohol, except the sponge is more likely to make a coherent point.

Skousen hated everything and everybody . . . they were all "communists." Beck's entire script is lifted from the pages of Skousen's books and pamphlets. He's nuts.

After reading all three parts of the Salon story on Becky, it's very hard to take him even somewhat seriously.

His drooling followers are hanging on the words and thoughts of a man who cares for no one but himself and cares for nothing but fame. Just as he did when he was a DJ, he'll say and do almost anything for the money fame brings.

Becky now is the same as Beck of old---burning hot for a while and then suddenly flaming out. The good news is that he appears right on track for that flame out.

Beck was really trying to say...

"the country built and ruled by the white man may not survive the black man in the White House".

Progressive? No. But not conservative either. Aren't cons supposed to want smaller govt and less spending?

Of course. But remember, Beck supported Bush's $700 billion Wall Street bailout - heck, he even said it should be more money. This guy changes his mind like a slot machine.

This man is reaching . . . . he knows that his time is limited. When somebody who is a bigger hatemonger than Beck starts criticizing Beck for his lunacy . . . Beck's gotta know he's about to be history.

      Bush was anything BUT progressive.

The thing that terrifies me is that the complete opposite of Beck's statement could be true.

Sometimes I fear that Barack Obama may not survive our country.

If Glenn Beck doesn't survive the Obama years, I'll probably up my wine budget for the week and have some intelligent people over to discuss politics.

America, OTOH, will be just fine. We pretty much survived Bush, so we're basically invulnerable now. Assuming that which doesn't kill you...

I mean, can stupidity really gain any more of a foothold than it had from 2001 to 2008?

      what hurt the Republican party?

oh I dont know.. torturing prisoners, starting (and losing) two wars, spying on citizens, the failure of Katrina, failing to heed warnings of 9/11, the economic collapse........

oh, and this whole "the country might not survive Obama" is code for the nutjobs.. and the code is "you need to stop him" and we know what that means to them, dont we...

I don't even think that qualifies as "code", honestly. I don't know what else people are supposed to take away from this sort of rhetoric, so the message seems pretty direct.

That's a great point. Beck goes all apocalyptic, saying "the country won't survive Obama," FEMA concentration camps, socialism/facism is coming, communism is coming, terrorists are going to kill us all, etc.
Then in the next breath, he's like "I am in no way advocating violence. Anyone who commits violence is not getting my message."
Let me see, America "won't survive," and you DON'T want us to use violence to stop it? You're comparing the current administration to Stalin and/or Hitler, and you don't advocate a violent stoppage to it?
Question, Glen: If you were in Germany in the 1930s, would you not support the assassination of Hitler? And if you would, how then do you not advocate the same action against the American version?
The fact is Beck probably doesn't believe any of the B.S. he's spewing (remember, when he was on CNN, he had a special about how hoirrible our health care system is. On FOX, he says it's "the best in the world"). Beck has realized that there is A LOT of money/fame to be had by taking this route, shouting fire in a crowded theater.
If he really DID believe half of the vitriol he spews, then there is no way he COULD NOT advocate violence and assassination.

I honestly think that if someone takes a shot at Obama that there needs to be legal accountability here. If the law doesn't recognize the possibility that people will spout this sort of crazy fearmongering rhetoric, and a network will allow it, then the law is officially obsolete. You can't have this incendiary bile being spewed and then brush off any violent results as the price of free speech.

I think it is still up for debate if obama is a liberal. I think the jury is in on what bush was - he was the very definition of the conservative republican movement - cut taxes on the rich, start unnecessary wars, ignore the plight of the poor, ignore race relations, ignore national catastrophes except to declare a war on terrorism, cut funding to crucial social programs to fund the industrial complex, ignore and even promote global warming, take plentiful vacations, ignore big businesses and big insurance's abuse of the American people, redefine torture in order to use it, destroy America's international positions, eat away at American freedoms, pass laws that allow spying on your own people and consider the richest 1 percent of the country your "base." Oh yea and be completely clueless about how to speak in public. That pretty much sums up the republican movement of our time, no?
