I think first we must define first what the Hell the "soil of (insert religion here)" is.

I have Googled, Yahooed, and Wikipediaed it, and I still am not getting a hit on what "soil" means as it pertains to religion.

My knee jerk reaction to your question is, "no," but I am sure that will only launch a series of responses of those who wish to push the idea that we are a "Christian" Nation.

Soil, as in firm ground, foundation. The base that you build your beliefs on. Basically, he's claiming that you can't build a democracy based on islamic faith.

I just couldn't find any context for it anywhere and was unfamiliar with the term. So what your saying was he was being metaphorical... perhaps maybe even as in dirt or stain. would that really be so surprising?

Does Tony Perkins realize how anti-neocon that statement is? They wanted to change the face of the Middle East through democracy. Is democracy not suitable for Afghanistan because of Islam or because of its tribal structure and culture?

The power structures of christianity fought tooth and nail against the concept of democracies. They were quite happy and enthusiastic in supporting the legitimacy of kings and queens.

Tony Perkins is a charlatan tool. Nothing he says has ANYTHING to do with the teachings of Christ.
