In segment on supposed "indoctrination," parent explains "larger context" of school kid SHOCK VIDEO to Fox & Friends

September 25, 2009 9:32 am ET

Parent: "There were songs about Groundhogs Day, Valentine's Day, Mardis Gras, Chinese New Year, President Lincoln, and President Washington. ... This is like a minute-and-a-half out of a hour long program."

Oops ... How embarassed Fox, Drudge and Michelle Malkin must be!

You mean, the intent was actually NOT to indocrinate millions of school kids into liking Obama's socialist communist Nazism?

Well ... we're going to present it that way, anyhow!

Ditto. Did you also get the feeling that this mother was upset at "her child being used this way" because her child was being used as a propaganda tool by Fox News and Drudge and Malkin and Hannity and...?

I think the producer, in a rush to find a parent upset at their kid being in the video, didn't quite take the time to vet their guest. Found a parent who was upset that their child was IN THE VIDEO, not that their child was singing the song. Somebody's going to get a spanking...

"Andrea, thank you very much for joining us this morning. Have a nice weekend. [And don't ever come back - you confused us all and contradicted the theme we're trying to push here]"

So true. Fox News is downright reckless. Sloppy too.

Corporate media - namely Fox News (but also MSNBC) - invaded children's privacy and produced death threats to an elementary school. I find it excruciatingly frustrating that they can't see what they are doing, even when it's being explained to them up close and personal.

Right. So for this to be "acceptable" to Michell Malkin, kids can sing about St. Patrick's Day, Mardi Gras (although maybe not) and Valentine's Day.

Those songs won't get a nasty call-out by Malkin or Drudge.

But DARE to say positive things about a Democratic president and BOOM! Here come the death threats ...

This is what happens when your "news" is driven by Michelle Malkin and refreshing the Drudge Report every 10 minutes.

The "bottom" is the financial bottom line. Further, using second graders as foil for this nonsense is beneath contempt. Fox and MSNBC deserve to be called out on this. I don't know how it can be done - but the parents of these kids need to take action

                It is disgraceful.

I think I missed something, but the only video I saw on MSNBC had the kids' faces blurred, whereas Fox ran the video unedited. Was there a video on MSNBC that didn't blur the kids?

Whomever posted the video in the first place was the original invader of privacy; if Fox and MSNBC showed the video without appropriate privacy controls, then they were complicit as well.

Yeah, MSNBC blurred the video while pushing a completely false controversy. Good for them.

As for the video being somewhere else in the first place, that does not absolve any media outlet from its responsibly of choosing to air the footage.

I agree. It implies a false equivalence of Obama and Jesus. Obama is worthy of an original song, not some re-hashed version of a song about some old has-been who wouldn't turn stone to bread for the starving, but changed water to wine for a party.

Au contraire, mon frere. I am exceedingly tolerant of the "beliefs" of others. I'm not only in the choir at church, I am also the "tech guy" who videos the sermons, and also sets up and maintains the sound, projection and computer systems. All on a volunteer basis, of course. The pastor, who did NOT get his credentials on line but actually went through seminary and exited with his doctorate and an extensive education in history, is a friend of mine who I see socially outside of church for activities that have nothing to do with religion. He has no problem with my questioning christianity and I have posed the bread/wine conundrum to him. We watched Monty Python's "The Life of Bryan" together and he laughed not only as hard as me, but more often because there were parts of it that only he understood due to his education.

The only problem I have is when people force their religion into my life.

To sum up, I am NOT a christian sycophant who shows up once a week unquestioningly echoing whatever the guy in the robes at the front says in order to atone for the prior weeks sins, who wields the bible as an arsenal against those with whom I disagree by picking and choosing which parts are true depending on which ones defend my actions or advance my political agenda.

To be so thin-skinned to fear that what I wrote somehow disparaged chrixtianity... well, that's chickensh*t, to say the least.

But you fear what I write. I, too, am a christian who questions anyone who takes the parables in the bible literally. I have no doubt my affiliation with the church exceeds yours but who's counting. The statement you made concerning "turning water into wine" for the purpose of partying was a bit much. To refer to Jesus as "an old has been" struck me as a little bit harsh, but if it was in jest, put the sarcasm 'on' first. Thanx

They put new words to an existing tune, which people do all the time. They did not "substitute" Obama for Jesus. And even if they did, who cares? Is it only the religious people who have the right to determine what is appropriate?

They didn't JUST substitute Obama's name for Jesus'. The whole song was changed. It's not like they were saying Obama love me this I know.... This song was not intended with religious undertones. You just know how stupid the argument is to complain about the kids singing a song about the first black president during Black History Month so you are trying to make it into something it clearly is not.

At least MSNBC blurred out the faces of the children when they showed the video. The segment I saw at least had their faces blurred out. FOX NEWS CHANNEL ran the video showing the faces of these young children. They're so hell-bent on this nonsense they dont even realize or perhaps willfully ignore certain precautions and rules that even the most basic of journalists would adhere to. On the other hand, that's what they usually do anyway, regardless of whether the story involves innocent children or not.

When I first heard this song, the first thought that crossed my mind was the context of the lyrics... "Barack Hussein Obama"
, "He Said that all must lend a hand", "He said we must be fair today Equal work means equal pay"...

The conservatives constantly call Obama by his full name, and the lyrics seem to be somewhat sarcastic in my opinion, with the second and third verse. On top of all that, these lyrics replaced that of Christian lyrics about Jesus Christ, and we all know the right refer to Obama as the Messiah as well, not to mention all those right wing super Christians who support Obama... This sounds like Huckabee wrote it!

We used to sing songs and talk about all sorts of subjects (including presidents) when I was in elementary school. I even remember the teacher discussing in detail the 1988 election, and discussing Presidents Bush and Reagan, as well as the competition. I remember 1992 and discussing the election as well. Back then, I was not indoctrinated and everything was fine... I would guarantee if there were any discussion about politics today in school, all of the Fox News followers would be livid!
Indoctrination? No, but the sure does smell like conservative news propaganda...

From Fox News, here are the lyrics, as sung to Jesus Loves You:

      Song 1:
      Mm, mmm, mm!
      Barack Hussein Obama

He said that all must lend a hand
To make this country strong again
      Mmm, mmm, mm!
      Barack Hussein Obama

He said we must be fair today
      Equal work means equal pay
      Mmm, mmm, mm!
      Barack Hussein Obama

He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
      Mmm, mmm, mm!
      Barack Hussein Obama

He said red, yellow, black or white
All are equal in his sight
      Mmm, mmm, mm!
      Barack Hussein Obama

      Yes!
      Mmm, mmm, mm
      Barack Hussein Obama

      Song 2:
Hello, Mr. President we honor you today!
For all your great accomplishments, we all doth say "hooray!"

Hooray, Mr. President! You're number one!
The first black American to lead this great nation!

Hooray, Mr. President we honor your great plans
To make this country's economy number one again!

Hooray Mr. President, we're really proud of you!
And we stand for all Americans under the great Red, White, and Blue!

So continue ---- Mr. President we know you'll do the trick
      So here's a hearty hip-hooray ----

      Hip, hip hooray!
      Hip, hip hooray!
      Hip, hip hooray!

Actually, Wolf, I think that the problem WAS that there was no script for Mom. It's a beautiful example of "unintended consequences" and illustrates just how Fox News intentionally misleads viewers to push a theme.

One of two things going on here: The first option is that Fox got Mom last-minute to appear because they needed a parent who was "upset that their kid was in the video". They didn't vet her, didn't interview her beyond asking if she was upset, and completely misread WHY she was upset. The hosts, rather than follow up on Mom's concerns as a good journalist or investigator would do, tried to steer the conversation back to the premise that "some parents" see the school indoctinating kids into Obamaism. Fox's intention was to foist their preconceived scenario onto their audience, facts be damned.

The second option is that Fox already knew what the Mom was upset about, but thought the hosts could manipulate the conversation to push their theme. However Fox and Fiends once again proved how inept they are by being completely unable to guide the segment toward their intended target. That scenario likewise puts Fox in the position of attempting to mislead the audience.

One thing for sure - this was, by far and without a doubt, the shortest "studio interview" ever conducted by any television crew. I've seen man-on-the-street interviews of movie-goers about the latest Chuck Norris film that lasted longer than this.

Mother Doe in the headlights! Okay, so they drag this poor woman on and try to get her to toe the Fixed Spews line that her child was exploited by the school, when the opposite is true. And Wretched Gretchen, you told a lie, you can say God in schools. Students are allowed to have religious clubs in schools, they can pray in the club meetings. You can sing Christmas songs in schools, but you also usually have to add a Chanukah tune or two. Heck, you can even read the Bible as part of a class, either the Bible as Literature or Comparative Religion. What you can't expect is for the school to teach a particular doctrine or interpretation of the Bible as truth. Why did you let Fox brainwash you Gretch, are you so regretful that you want to stop it from happening to others, or are you trying to spread Fox's indoctrination, because that is what it is and that is what you are doing on a daily basis.

You know, supporting the president is kinda patriotic.

And Obama's accomplishment? Getting elected in the first place was a major accomplishment. Especially now that we no know about all the racist teabaggers out there. You know, like the 50% of Kentuckians who don't believe he's a US citizen and the 20% of New Jersey residents who think he's the anti-Christ. The right wing needs to be a shamed for what they did using this video to taint President Obama. An hour long program with religious songs, holiday songs, other PRESIDENTS songs along with Obama from back in Febuary of 2009. The Obama song was a tribute to the first african-american president. Now FOX Snooze needs to their homework before pedaling unfinished stories. Retards!

We can't say God in school?

I'm a substitute teacher, and at every school I've ever subbed at, we stand up every morning and say "one nation under God, indivisible...etc".

Gretchen Carlson is maybe the dumbest person I've ever heard talk.

Gretchen usually says dumb things, but this was dumber than usual perhaps because she had to think of something to say spur of the moment because she realized that the woman wasn't playing along with the fake outrage being drummed up by the FOX "NEWS" CHANNEL and the neanderthals in conservative hate radio and on the Web. She probably meant Prayer in schools or singing Christmas songs or something along those lines, but the wires were short-circuiting so fast in Miss America's head as she realized her guest would actually have a mind of her own and not go along with the troglodyte talking points that she just spit out whatever popped up inside of her beautiful Scandinavian brain.

        THANK YOU.
