If this was true, wouldn't we see thousands of kids singing about Obama every day in school? Of course we don't, so her talking point is not even remotely close to valid.

Considering that the video dates back to February, I must say that Operation Indoctrinate Our Children isn't going as smoothly as we at the Acorn Institute of George Soros-Funded Kenyan Muslim/Christians in League with Bill Ayers had hoped.

So I am assuming that there is now an attempt by the conservative media to claim that the school, the principal and the teacher are all part of the Obama adminitration??

Over the weekend Foxnews.com had a pic of the school principal at Obama's inauguration. LOL Yes he was basically waaaaaaaay in the back of the Mall - one of 2 million people there in the crowd who had to watch on the giant screens BUT that did not stop Foxnews.com of making a "connection" between Obama and the Principal.

I watched it on television, along with millions of other folks, so I guess I have a "connection" to Obama, too. I also had a connection with Bill Clinton, George H.W., Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, LBJ, and John F. Kennedy. Wow, I must really be indoctrinated and subversive.

[Note, that I REFUSED to watch GWB . . . it was part of my GWB boycott that began the first time he ran for governor of Texas!]

I don't think kids should be praising the current president whether it be Obama or Bush or other. It's bad enough that parents may be shoving dogma and politics down a kids throat, the school does not need to do it either.
This being said, this whole Obama praise video has been WAY overblown, they are trying to get one teeny slight at Obama supporters but in the process they are exploiting children? That's low.

I absolutely agree with everything you wrote. I don't want to see kids being taught to sing the praises of ANY President. I'm willing to give these particular students and this particular school a pass because it was done during Black History Month and the enthusiasm for our first Black President was undeniable; still, I do hope it was a one-time deal.

If kids are going to be taught to sing about the US, let them sing about what's great about this country AND what needs to be fixed- and what's great about the World and what needs to be fixed. Chanting the President's name and connecting it to good things he wants to get done with our help? Really doesn't sit well with me.

I think it's because (largely) children do not know what they are talking about, especially in politics. They are doing what the teacher is telling them and repeating verbatim (In my province, teachers are almost unilaterally Liberal aka Democratish?). I have no problem with children singing a national anthem or talking about how great America is, but praising a specific person? Nein.

Is it also wrong, then, to prais Jesus Christ, George Washington or Abraham Lincoln? Seems like a very, very narrow sliver of songs in which you would allow schools to engage in.

Might as well just go ahead and ban all singing then, no?

I have no idea what kids sing in American schools to be honest, so I couldn't tell you about those songs, and their propreity.
I do understand what you are getting at, it is a slippery slope. I don't think it's right to praise Jesus Christ in schools, because coming from an atheist heathen, there's no proof that he was the Son Of "God" or whatever. Secondly, religious icons have no place in schools.
I am a bit wishy washy about the Washington and Lincoln songs. Are they teaching them about history or praising them?

I remember singing Rufus Rustus and Chicken in school.

And THAT is exactly what is wrong with the faux outrage. None of them have any idea what's going on but are all too willing to believe and act on what the reichwing talking heads tell them.

History and politics are two different categories. I don't see what possible consequences we're talking about by establishing a sense of respect for the Founding Fathers or our most admired Presidents. That's not the same thing as teaching them to praise the person currently in office. There's no record on which to judge him yet.

In the context of Black History Month, I think this is completely understandable. Otherwise, it would definitely come off as political in nature, which is pretty sketchy.

As children, we had to stand up in class and pledge allegiance to one nation (under God) with liberty and justice for all. These children were singing as much about those principals as about Obama--someone who commends justice for all and happens to be black during Black History Month. The greater context of the song gets lost when it's referred to by FOX as the "Obama Song".

So, you don't think that during Black History Month celebration in an elementary school, where the way they do things is to put ideas into songs to make it easier for the kids to remember them, they should have had a song about the first Black President, who had just been inaugurated a couple of weeks earlier?

Really? You think they should have refrained from mentioning during Black History month (and remember, the way they highlight info to a 2nd grade class in elementary schools is by making a song out of that info) that a Black man had just been elected?

        That's ridiculous.

          That's not what I said.
The song lyrics are inappropriate, they are talking about politics that children don't know about. (Economy, Equal Pay)
A little diddy to celebrate that America has elected a black President is one thing, a song praising him is another.

          Mm, mmm, mm!
          Barack Hussein Obama

He said that all must lend a hand
To make this country strong again
          Mmm, mmm, mm!
          Barack Hussein Obama

He said we must be fair today
          Equal work means equal pay
          Mmm, mmm, mm!
          Barack Hussein Obama

He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
          Mmm, mmm, mm!
          Barack Hussein Obama

He said red, yellow, black or white
All are equal in his sight
          Mmm, mmm, mm!
          Barack Hussein Obama

          Yes!
          Mmm, mmm, mm
          Barack Hussein Obama

          Song 2:
Hello, Mr. President we honor you today!
For all your great accomplishments, we all doth say "hooray!"

Hooray, Mr. President! You're number one!
The first black American to lead this great nation!

Hooray, Mr. President we honor your great plans
To make this country's economy number one again!

Hooray Mr. President, we're really proud of you!
And we stand for all Americans under the great Red, White, and Blue!

So continue ---- Mr. President we know you'll do the trick
          So here's a hearty hip-hooray ----

          Hip, hip hooray!

This is a class-room for children and there is absolutely nothing wrong with singing a song of praise for ANY good man in powerful position, or woman for that matter. Obama is a positive role model.
White people have a problem with children singing Obama praised and it has nothing to with indoctrination (that's just silly). The song would not have gone any further than the class room if it weren’t for Fox News. (Fox News disperses this black President).
White folks have a problem with a black President and they have a problem with children looking up to him, why, because Obama does not fit white (not all) image and stereotypes of black people.
White fore-fathers have lied to their children about black people. They taught that black people were inferior, lazy, shiftless, incompetent, evil, criminals, can’t be trusted, dirty and less than human.
Obama, holding the highest office in the world, has contradicted all that is said about black people. Now the children of their forefathers are confused and angry at this black President (they should be angry at their parents).
Obama, not only beat out all white democrats (Liberals) but he beat out all Republicans (the whitest of the white, Conservatives). This is why they want Obama to fail. They want to be able to say Obama was not qualified and he was incompetent.
They want to keep the lie alive about black people.
The Republican Party will do EVERTHING conceivable to insure Obama fail. This is the reason why they complain and criticize everything Obama does.
This is the reason behind the ACORN scandal (they want to connect Obama to ACORN). This is also the reason behind the so-called indoctrination scandal (whites have a problem with their children listening to a black man).
Now they have an issue with mostly blacks ‘school children singing praise about a positive, influential back man in the “comfort” of a classroom.
This is stupid, like most of their criticism of Barack Obama, in fact, Obama had nothing to do with what went on in that classroom, but it doesn’t matter to hateful conservatives. They will grab on to anything and everything hoping something sticks to Obama. They intend on bringing down Obama.
Right now Republicans and Conservatives are using the media (for the most part) to help them scandalized Obama’s name and reputation. This is why America is getting all these ridiculously childish silly stories about indoctrination and singing children in classroom.

The song wasn't actually done in the classroom. It was done in the auditorium in front of all the 2nd grade parents as part of a February assembly they did. My kids's school did the same thing - each grade did a program and sang songs about a particular topic. The 2nd grade sang about things happening in February, including Black History Month. They also sang songs about Groundhog Day, about Lincoln and Washington, about Mardi Gras, and about Valentine's Day.

On top of that, the words to the songs were sent home before the event to the parents of all the kids who would be singing those particular songs, and not a single parent complained. It was then sung to the all the parents of all the 2nd graders, and no one complained to the school at that time either.

This is a non-issue made into one by the right. Someone stumbled on to that video and thought it was a big deal. Before they had all the details, they had a knee-jerk reaction to the video, and ran with that mistaken impression that there was something sinister here.

It couldn't at all be because someone has a genuine philosophical qualm, could it Jimmy Carter? Could people saying that he is unqualified stem from the short time he spent in the senate (less than 1 term), rather than his race?
I'm not saying people of a right wing ideology are perfect, but now that you are in power do not deny that you used similar tactics. In politics no one is clean.

When I was in Fifth Grade, my song book had a song in it called "Give us Men to Match Our Mountains." It was one of my favorites. At the bottom was an excerpt from JFK's Inaugural Speech "Ask not what your country can do for you but rather what you can do for your country." That song and quote influenced my whole life. It made me want to serve my country and became the foundation of my Liberalism. And even though my small town in Medford was incredibly conservative, they had no trouble quoting Liberal Presidents.
