From an American Journal of Public Health press release:

Lack of health insurance leads to 45,000 excess deaths annually

A new study shows that a lack of health insurance is associated with nearly 45,000 deaths in the United States each year -- or one death every 12 minutes.

Researchers conducted a survival analysis with data from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and analyzed participants aged 17 to 64 years to determine whether uninsurance at the time of interview predicted death. After adjusting for age, gender, education, employment status, smoking and other factors, the authors found that lack of health insurance causes 44,789 deaths each year.

The number of excess deaths is nearly two-and-a-half times greater than previous estimates by the Institute of Medicine, which were based on older studies.

There are a lot of things Limpy doesn't believe. That doesn't make them untrue though.

Limpaugh supports the Tinkerbell health-care plan.

C'mon - Clap. Keep clapping. Clap louder, Clap faster! I DO believe in faeries!! I DO believe in health-for-profit!!! Clap!!!! YOU'RE NOT CLAPPING LOUD ENOUGH!!! COME ON - CLAP!!!! CLAP LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!!!! CLAAAAP, YOU BASTARDS.....!!!!

Great. Their dead, and it's your fault. You didn't really believe. Your political views were invested in the failure of the health insurance industry, and now thousands of innocent people are dead.

Hope you liberals are proud of yourselves.

Like a lot of GOP dogma, it's all "feelings" and "believing".

BTW Neon, that's a suspiciously European spelling of "fairies" you're using there. Watch it.

On a Boss Hogg -related note, if anybody can find a link to audio of "Susan" who called in about a half hour before the end of the show today, it was awesome, and made my pre-lunch drive complete.

She was a lawyer, who left a great job at a law firm, because God had promoted her to "Mother of Seven".

She was, for the first time in her life, ashamed of her government.

She advised Boss Hogg to pick up the phone and call Sarah Palin to be his running mate in 2012.(oh, pleeeeaaassssse !!)

She rambled on for several minutes with an emotional, melodramatic paranoid rant that she bragged she did without a teleprompter.

She apologized for running on, but Rush comforted her, telling her that she had summarized the first hour of his show perfectly. As others have pointed out here, this is the format of Rush's show; he blathers on with his talking points and BS, the dittoheads call in and repeat what he just said, and Daddy tells them they're brilliant.

I'm sorry I missed it. But hey, why not just splice together 14 or 15 OTHER limpaugh callers and you'd have a pretty close approximation of what it sounds like this septamom streamed.

And, BTW, the spelling of "faeries" was intentionally to differentiate between... well... real men don't believe in homosexuality, anyway. Curious, though - we still hear an awful lot about it, like it exists...

No, I don't believe Major Tom was referring to those of us who listen in sometimes for laughs. By "his listeners" it's pretty obvious to anybody whose mind hasn't been rotted by years of Boss Hogg that he was referring to Rush's fans .

You know, the type of slow-witted zombie who would need to ask to have that explained.

Never met a happy liberal? Hard to believe. The only constant in your meetings with liberals, Rush, is you.

Have you ever considered that maybe YOU'RE the problem?

Have you ever considered that maybe YOU'RE the problem?

That would be part of the problem.
The other part would be that they might see that things could be better.
Where Rush believes things are perfect now, well, except for Obama and all those Democrats.

just shows how far removed the pompous ass is from the reality that a large portion of the people of this country face. to eat, pay the rent, ect or go to the doctor...

there certainly are people who's priorities are not straight, but the fact remains that there also are people who live underneath the crack they have fallen through or was born under...

i remember hearing levine not long ago put both his feet in his mouth talking about the 'actual number' of people who don't have health care. and he went on to say something like what a small measure (as if they don't count). and lament how he would never allow his relatives to go without seeing a doctor...hmmmmm does that mean that he has means...

Rush, I can't believe that Clear Channel Communications pays you $37 million a year... guess it's a good thing for you that believing it or not has no effect in reality.

I hope nobody really cares what Rush believes because there are lots of things he doesn't believe in...

Science, because global warming isn't real
Marriage, not just gay marriage, but marriage in general since his hate towards women is equal to that of gays.
Truth, since his tenuous relationship with the truth is ethereal at best.

It's insulting that he says things like this and nobody calls him on it. I would love to see him in a room with the families of people who have been bankrupted by health care, have lost loved ones because of insurance failures, or people who have had their insurance rescinded and say to their faces..."I don't believe anyone is dying because of a lack of health insurance"

I'm sure Rush's audience includes some people making 25k a year who are being crushed by medical bills.

But they're probably convinced that they would be keeping up if their taxes were cut by about 50k a year.

They are certainly afraid it's gonna pass, aren't they? And they should be, because if we do get the public option, the country will remember it was the gop who fought tooth and nail to deny them coverage. The gop can relive what happened to their party after the great depression and spend another 40 years in exile.

Will the public remember? Does the public remember that it was the GOP that fought tooth and nail over Social Security and Medicare?

They remember Reagan telling them that Socialized medicine is the greatest evil of all, but they forget that they were referring to Medicare.

First let me say that I worked in the hospital for over 14 years!! Many years in the ER!! NO ONE GETS TURNED AWAY!! THAT"S THE LAW!!! We don't ask you if you have money when you come in, we treat everyone--YES EVERYONE!!!! We don't ask for ID when you come in and YES you do get treated -no matter who you are!!! Then during your stay in the hospital a financial counselor comes to your room to TALK to you about whether you have insurance or not. YOU ARE NOT THROWN OUT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE nor are you released any sooner than need be. A financial counselor then can help you apply for state aid to pay for your hospital stay!!!This does not come from the White House it comes from the State. Oh!! and guess what -MANY people do not pay us EVER!!! They disappear into the world. Do you see the hospital's crying and looking for money like the Banks and GM. The hospitals could of used that money alot more than the Bank Executives that Obama never checked on and gave out as Bonuses!!!

Limbaugh is so democratic - ahem!! He runs his show like a control freak because he wants to convince his employers that he has a wide reaching appeal. Otherwise they may reduce his $45M paycheck.

His callers are pre-screened and few who disagree with him are allowed on the air. For five days a week, Limbaugh puts out his opinions with little fear of contradiction. Yes he does it with a somewhat perverted sense of humor and plenty of sarcasm.

Like Beck, he pontificates with a confident, authoritative voice that gives the impression that what he says is accurate and true. The fact is that many of the facts he and Beck claim are often inaccurate and many are just downright wrong.

But, as I have penned before, what do they care? As long as the millions pure into their bank accounts, they will spew out as much rhetoric and hatred as their employers will permit.
