EMBED

From Michelle Obama's speech at Mayor Daley's welcome reception in Copenhagen:

It does something to a kid when they can feel that energy and power up close and personal. And for some kids in our communities and our city, around the nation, around the world, they can never dream of being that close to such power and opportunity. So that's what excites me most about bringing the Games to Chicago - the impact that it can have on the lives of our young people, and on our entire community.

And I know that's what all of you have been working for for these past few months. As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the President to come for these few days, so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home, and you have put together a phenomenal set of ideas that, no matter what the outcome is, we should be proud of as a city. (Applause.)

So now is the time for us to pull it through, you know. As Barack and I have looked at this, this is like a campaign. (Laughter.) Just like Iowa. (Laughter.) You got to - and the international community may not understand that, but Iowa is like a caucus, and you can't take any vote for granted. Nobody makes the decision until they're sitting there.

Why in the world is it a "mischaracterization?" It is what she said. She said it was a "sacrifice," for her the president and
her and Oprah to go to Copenhagen. What she said was ridiculous
but that is not Rush Limbaugh's fault. She is the one who said it.

"As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the President to come for these few days..."

I take this to be veiled criticism of those people who criticized the group of people, especially the President, for traveling to Copenhagen. She did not say it was a sacrifice, she said "PEOPLE SAY" it's a sacrifice.

        Hey williaminny

As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the President to come for these few days

Now follow along with me on deconstructing the sentence.

"As much of a sacrifice as people say" This is Michelle Obama conveying "what other people said".

Are you with me still? If you need to take your time to digest this go ahead. When you're ready we will go on.

"this is for me or Oprah or the President to come for these few days" This is where she makes the complete sentence to convey who they (as people) were talking about.

See williaminy, this is whats wrong with you ditto heads, you just salivate when old El-Rushbo rings the bell. Maybe you should see if your local school system has and Adult Ed classes in reading comprehension, sure sounds like you could use a refresher of middle school English.

C'mon, after all the 'people say' type of headlines on Faux News, Neocons have come to take ANY statement as being 'from the person making it', rather than using a quote. Not that it's new....

Well whoever these "people" are, I'd ask them...why is this a sacrifice for Michelle, Oprah or the President??

          They didn't have to go.

But I do agree MO was not the one saying it was a sacrifice for her.

I'll admit I don't know much about this whole affair. Seems pretty de riguer in the scheme of usual processes in lobbying for this type of event, but I could be wrong.

In any case, Rush goes way beyond the pale to conflate any of this with our soldiers and policy. That's just strange. And kinda dumb. And kinda mean. Okay, usual Rush ;-)

Sorry, love. I should have prefaced this by saying the trip to Copenhagen. I don't expect you can read my mind (all the time ;-))

Dont you understand.....it is simply not fair to take a dems EXACT words, and report them. Look at all she had to give up to fly all over the world to do this. It is noble actually that she is able to give so much for so little. LOL

"As first lady, as many of you know, I’ve made it a priority to bridge the gap between the White House and communities across D.C. and across the country," Mrs. Obama continued. "I’ve spent much of my first nine months trying to open the doors to the White House to kids who might not otherwise see themselves having access to these institutions, because that’s where I came from – communities like that where kids never dreamed that they could set foot in the White House, let alone live there…

Hey Michelle, they give daily tours of the White House, not sure you were aware of this tour. I can send her my tour guide book I got many years ago.

Hey Mark, I understood perfectly what she meant. I guess it was a bit beyond you.

Too bad you weren't around in the 1940s, so when you heard an African-American kid staring at a Major League Ballpark say "someday, I dream a kid like me will be able to set foot on that field," you could have replied "are you kidding? LOTS of members of the grounds crew are black!"

Truly, you are a moron. Worse- a moron who thinks he's funny.
