CNN's Carville blasts Beck as "nuts" and a "blatant hypocrite" for giddiness over Chicago losing Olympics

From the October 4 edition of CNN's State of the Union with John King:

These people certainly are whacko but I wouldn't call them dumb--even though their politics are crazy. I know an engineer who thinks Obama will try to get Congress to allow him to be pres for life. I know a physician who believes Obama owns the banks now. I know an attorney who thinks Obama wasn't born in the US. I don't think we can dismiss this anymore.
I am not saying we give them credence--I am saying we have to understand that regular ordinary people have abandoned all logic, reason and principle and have thrown it over to an un-natural attachment to pure ideology--or maybe just even blind political power. It's been known to happen--Germany, Yugoslavia, Serbia, China, Cambodia...
.
These guys are going to spend the next seven and a half years rooting against the United States- but that's nothing new. They rooted against the United States when they worked for the election of George Bush and John McCain, too.

Michael Scheuer, on Glenn Beck's show July 1st:
Scheuer: The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it's going to take a grass-roots, bottom-up pressure. Because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. It's an absurd situation again. Only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.
Beck: Which is why, I was thinking this weekend, if I were him, that would be the last thing I would do right now.
I guess the wingnuts have given up the pretense of decency and normalcy. Now they're rooting for another terrorist attack, so that we stoopid Americans will finally WAKE UP! to the nature of the evil that conspires against us ...
There is another similar piece from Limbaugh--I'll find it....
I do believe that the vast majority of Americans are centrist, but I still worry about the wacky minority that follows this nonsense. That their views are so very extreme is troubling enough, but it's the wild connections and conspiracies they see that bother me most. The complete abandonment of logic is frightening and the strange invocation of the Constitution and Founding Fathers seems quasi-religious, almost cultish, as though Jefferson and Adams, who in this warped re-telling of history are suddenly fundamentalist Christians let alone in agreement on the future of the nation. These men have become for Beck followers and their ilk, some kind of national god-lings, whose 18th century rhetoric has become for these whack jobs like very Word of God handed down to a nation. A woman recently wrote a letter to the editor of my small town newspaper calling for the resignation of Obama, saying "He is taking this country down a road that our brave Founding Fathers, like Jefferson, did not want for their children. God have mercy on us all." I happen to be a fairly conservative Roman Catholic and these people scare the crap out of me!
