because glenn beck has best selling books according to mary the brain dead talking head, hes tapping into mainstream america. i believe she has a valid point, because much of america that has been out talking recently is idiotic. many of these people are the conservative christian right that reads in the bible to help people and not concern themselves with money. then when they here they may have to pay a slightly higher tax to help 40+ million americans get health care, they start calling obama hitler and worse. so glenn beck does represent america, the section of it that is brain dead.

Joshwahu, I would like that to be right, but I am not so sure. A few years ago, I moved from Boston to a little town in W.PA. It's a nice town and the people are great, but the political sentiment is like nothing I have ever known. The letters to the editor, the shouting at health care town halls make Glenn Beck look temperate! They routinely call Obama a fascist, communist, even the Anti Christ. They invoke the Constitution (without understanding it of course) like it were tablets from the Mount, they pulled their kids out of school rather than let them hear the president speak. Fringe or not, they successfully interfered with local governing bodies all over the country because of the speech to school children. The way I see it, schools administrators hired by elected school boards decide curriculum and these people successfully interfered with that process--I received a phone call from my district about the Obama speech telling me I could opt out. They have never done that for any other speaker, from local firefighters and business leaders to a free rock concert at the Middle School. But these people moved school districts to rethink the plan.

These people certainly are whacko but I wouldn't call them dumb--even though their politics are crazy. I know an engineer who thinks Obama will try to get Congress to allow him to be pres for life. I know a physician who believes Obama owns the banks now. I know an attorney who thinks Obama wasn't born in the US. I don't think we can dismiss this anymore.

I am not saying we give them credence--I am saying we have to understand that regular ordinary people have abandoned all logic, reason and principle and have thrown it over to an un-natural attachment to pure ideology--or maybe just even blind political power. It's been known to happen--Germany, Yugoslavia, Serbia, China, Cambodia...

I bet James Carville and his wife have a good laugh about the conservative role she plays as they put the money she gets in their retirement account. She was more interested in hawking Beck's books for her commission than anything they were talking about.

Well, considering that Beck and the rest of the FOX gang has been rooting for a terrorist attack and an economic collapse, it only makes sense that they are celebrating the fact that the US didn't get the Olympics.

These guys are going to spend the next seven and a half years rooting against the United States- but that's nothing new. They rooted against the United States when they worked for the election of George Bush and John McCain, too.

WRONG! From July 1, 2009. Go to this clip:
          http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/michael-scheuer-fox-americas-only-ho

Michael Scheuer, on Glenn Beck's show July 1st:

Scheuer: The only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it's going to take a grass-roots, bottom-up pressure. Because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. It's an absurd situation again. Only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary.

Beck: Which is why, I was thinking this weekend, if I were him, that would be the last thing I would do right now.

I guess the wingnuts have given up the pretense of decency and normalcy. Now they're rooting for another terrorist attack, so that we stoopid Americans will finally WAKE UP! to the nature of the evil that conspires against us ...

There is another similar piece from Limbaugh--I'll find it....

To be more accurate, at best he sat by idly while a guest claimed that another catastrophe at the hands of a terrorist was the only real hope for this country. At worst there was something sinister in the way Beck simply nodded his seeming agreement.

Wow, MMM MMM. Even with the evidence staring at you in the face, you just ignore it. Beck did agree with the speaker and had him on to discuss exactly a terrorist attack and how it would help gin up the opposition. And I have never seen anyone's safety threatened on this site...what are you talking about? Your facetiousness is sophomoric.

I agree with both Carville and Matalin. Glenn Beck is a nut and a blatant hypocrite, and at the same time does have a huge following. Someone IS reading his books. Just because he has followers doesn't mean he isn't nuts and I notice Matalin did not really defend him.

I do believe that the vast majority of Americans are centrist, but I still worry about the wacky minority that follows this nonsense. That their views are so very extreme is troubling enough, but it's the wild connections and conspiracies they see that bother me most. The complete abandonment of logic is frightening and the strange invocation of the Constitution and Founding Fathers seems quasi-religious, almost cultish, as though Jefferson and Adams, who in this warped re-telling of history are suddenly fundamentalist Christians let alone in agreement on the future of the nation. These men have become for Beck followers and their ilk, some kind of national god-lings, whose 18th century rhetoric has become for these whack jobs like very Word of God handed down to a nation. A woman recently wrote a letter to the editor of my small town newspaper calling for the resignation of Obama, saying "He is taking this country down a road that our brave Founding Fathers, like Jefferson, did not want for their children. God have mercy on us all." I happen to be a fairly conservative Roman Catholic and these people scare the crap out of me!

Well, it's good to know that there are some other people out there on the news waves who are as disturbed with what Glenn Beck says as I am. And on the other hand, the woman in this particular episode didn't see anything wrong with Glenn Beck and that's disturbing.
