I agree. Just because Limbaugh says something stupid doesn't mean the entire Republican party falls in line.

But the Republican can't win elections without that ignorant, ditto head, extremist base.

I'm hoping that the reverse is true too.

That the Republicans can't win elections WITH that ignorant, ditto head, extremist base.

I don't think most people see Rush as speaking for the Republican Party. You're right they won't speak out against him but why should they have to? As long as they don't publically agree with him they're clean as far as most voters are concerned. Just because someone is on roughly the same side of the idealogical divide as you doesn't mean you go along with everything they say.

It's all well and good that Joe makes this extremely, patently obvious point (read, I don't give him any kudos necessarily). But he's there again with the false equivilencies. And that makes me angry. He's really good at throwing those out to try and legitimize himself to play like he's such a righteous guy. And I'm not buying it.

And there he goes, again, slapping at Paul Krugman. Sheesh.

Well, it's good to see that some of the more conservative commentators don't like Rush. It's encouraging that there are some sane voices on the right. Rush has again demonstrated that he is a complete idiot.

Looks like Joe smells blood and opportunity in the lightly-traveled republican middle lane. From Seattle his midddle looks more like Pennsylvania but it's a very shrewd move. Remember, He's the one that said moving further to the right is what's causing the elephant to lose elections.

I truly, honestly believe there are good, level-headed people in the Republican party. Problem is, the vocal minority is acting as the de-facto mouth-piece for the party.

In order for the Republican party to move forward to the 21st century, they need to abandon this so-called "values" based culture, and get moving on real issues affecting that "middle America" Joe talks about.

Just look at what the topics were at the "Values Voters Summit" recently. See links below.

This party thinks "values" belongs only to Republicans. Their logic: once you know you are right, that makes everyone else wrong.

        Follow-up...

Republicans need to stop worrying about "values", and start working on the values of our savings accounts and 401ks.

        Health care for all!

He also has appeared on Rachel Maddows(sp)Show several times. I thought he made a good point about the left not tapping into this movement. it seems the rage is misdirected and we shouldn't ignore it but redirect it.

Amazing too that no one is talking about these mega churches being built on military bases with stimulus money>

The reason they don't speak out against the hate talkers is because they are using them to attack the president by proxy. They know very well what Beck and Limbaugh are saying... Their daily talking points are parroted every day by their constituents. Brooks was wrong about the talker's influence. It hasn't been much in the past, and true it hasn't resulted in electoral victories. But Rush has just begun dabbling in electoral influence with his Project Chaos in the democratic primary... And Beck has wanted political efficacy from the beginning. Their influence is growing, perhaps not in sheer numbers, but in resolve, as the talkers and the liseners take their caustic rhetoric to even lower lows. Beck hates the term, but has definetely been giving the whole community organizer role a real shot... I wouldn't be surprised if the two clowns, with the support of FOX, attempt to translate their soft power into a hard electoral victory in 2010-2012. They are not irrelevant, and should not be underestimated.

Finally... Scarborough, who is actually GOP, gets it!! In addition, this was an initiative started 3 YEARS AGO.. in the middle of W's 2nd term.

The Limbaughs, Hannitys, and Becks are very much proxies for the Repoublicans. Out of their mouths, then the kooky-con elements of the tea baggers, eventually out of the mouths of their politicians.

I think the cliff is too high and the fall is still going. They better wake up very soon, but I doubt that will happen. Will there be a sound of splat once the fall ends? Only time will tell.

Lets not get to giddy here about old Joe "looking reasonable". Remember he is a card carrying member of the "Gingrich Revolution" from 1994.

He is still a right wing crackpot nut-job, no matter which way you cut it.

I am liberal leaning, but I don't agree that every conservative is a nut job. I see Scarborough as a moderate or well, at least able to voice reasoned opinions--even if I don't agree with him. Let's stick to going after the real nut jobs like Hannity, Beck, Dobbs and their ilk.
