Umm, no. Why? Because the people who are nominated generally don't know that they are up for the award.

Except for a few years ago, when Rush Limbaugh was "nominated" by Mark "The Shyster" Levin - even though Levin had no right to nominate anyone, seeing as he did not meet the criteria for submitting a nomination.

You know, whomever met the criteria to nominate Obama, had to do so by the SECOND week of his presidency, per the deadline! I KNEW his 1st two weeks in office were crucial!

The time he was nominated is irrelevant. Apparently, the committee decided that the strides he had made in the first 8 1/2 months of his presidency was a sign of good things to come. I hope they are right.

Irrelevant to what? Forming an opinion on whether it was deserved, whether it was at all precedented, whether it did anything to support the waning relevancy of this award?

It is irrelevant to the selection. According to the Committee, people like you misunderstand the intent of the Peace Prize. First, yes, Obama was nominated no more than 2 weeks following becoming president and he hasn't really done much at this point. Second, the Committee has cited the extraordinary efforts to restore diplomacy and cooperation between nations. Third, the INTENT is to encourage the winner to CONTINUE in his extraordinary efforst.

The timing of the nomination is irrelevant.

These are the reasons he won. He wasn't even seen as a contender, but his push to rid the world of nuclear weapons was seen as a big positive.

You're just regurgitating Erickson's witless idiocy which confuses the nomination date with the decision date... the purpose of which can only be an attempt to delegitimize the award, and by extension, the winner of that award. How despicable. An American president won one of the most prestigeous awards on the planet... and all the Hatriots can only grumble about it.

Let's settle this conservative talking point right now. The nomination was sent in on February 1st, but the actual decision was not made until today. Once the Nobel Committee makes its final vote the announcement is made. You can argue that 10 months is still too short, but at least get your facts straight.

The Nobel Committee sends invitations to people to submit nominations. I sincerely doubt that Mark Levin received an invitation from The Nobel Committee. He just made it up.

Did he claim he received an invitation? I figured that he nominated Limbaugh on his own, even though the nomination was not valid.

No, he just claimed he had nominated Rush. It wasn't a nomination. The Committee doesn't accept unsolicited nominations.

Right, it wasn't a valid nomination. What I'm saying is that I thought he sent in a nomination, not realizing that it wouldn't be valid. I'm wondering if it's "making it up" or if it's just stupidity, that's all. Or if it's intellectual dishonesty by sending in a nomination while knowing that it couldn't be accepted, and pretending that it could be.

This isn't a defense of Levin, I'm just not sure how the fact that they don't accept such nominations proves that he made up the story about sending one in.

There's a lot of stuff that Mark Levin makes up. Like virtually all the "facts" he spews on his daily radio pukefest and the gqrbage he writes into his useless books.

Cynical Fox News' hosts are beneath contempt. The hate for this black President has cause Fox News to lose touch with common decency and reality. To them, there are ulterior motives for everything Obama does. That kind of thinking has no place in "fair and balanced" News.
How in the world could Fox News have ANY credibility when all they do is criticise and attack? Fox News wants us to believe Obama is something other that what he presents to the world. Fox News is divisive, un-patriotic and treasonous.

Considering that he had NO CLUE he was going to be chosen and considering that he was one of almost 300 nominees . . . c'mon, Fox, you can do better than that . . . at least claim that he hypnotized the Nobel Committee into voting for him or SOMETHING more credible.

Even the PRESIDENT was shocked by this award. What it means is that the WORLD is expecting much from Mr. Obama. Wouldn't it be nice if Americans gave our President a shot at cleaning up the last administration's GINORMOUS mess? Looks like the rest of the world is giving him a shot.

As I understand it there is also a monetary gift that goes along with the Peace Prize. How long will it take before Fox News has Obama funneling the gift into ACORN?

We know for sure that he won't be funnelling any of that money to Ollie North's Freedom Allance, Michael Savage's Paul Revere Society, or Mark Levin's Landmark Legal Services and Ambulance Chasers.

Can FoxNews Channel's Hosts i.e. Brian Kilmeade, Steve Doocey, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Chris Wallace, Glenn Beck, etc. just say "Congratulations, Mr. Obama? Or, Congratulations President Obama?" And stop with trying to find the wrong with ANY good thing that happens to this sitting American President? How hard can this be for these people at FoxNews Channel's Network to "congratulate" the present President of the United States of America name Barack H. Obama? Only in America is this so absolutely "pathetic".

Just imagine the deflated atmosphere at the Weekly Standard offices this morning.
Sad,dejected looks coming from red, cried-out eyes, sad little murmurs and exclamations of grief coming from pursed lips, like those you hear at a memorial....it must be very difficult for them after rejoicing so enthusiatically over the Chicago "loss."

The decision to send troops into Afghanistan is a difficult one, with many potential pitfalls. I personally hope for a draw-down of troop levels, with regional help brought to bear for the Afghani people. Efforts in Afghanistan should be led by the U.N., working towards a definite and carefully spelled out goal, whatever that may be. The United States, if called upon to help, will gladly do so. Since the decision is so perilous, it is hardly unsurprising that this President, who has abandoned the "Ready-Shoot-Aim" diplomacy of the last administration, would want to get a complete picture before making it. This is exactly how he responded to the economic crisis that finally broke during the campaign. McCain canceled his campaign and basically did nothing. Obama gathered his advisers, and came up with a plan. It is just this kind of difference that got him elected.

Remember after 9-11? The U.S. and the world at large gave President Bush a large chunk of political capital, to spend as he wished in dealing with terrorism that had come to America. Well, after the Bush/Cheney administration left power, the world was so pleased that we as a nation had elected someone more thoughtful, and less willfully and deliberately evil, that they have presented our new President with his own chunk of political capital. Hopefully it will be used to further the cause of peace, and restore the name of our great nation in a world grown increasingly hostile to even the whispered name of the United States. I hope he succeeds. I am proud of my country, and of my President. It is too bad that FOX Propaganda is not.

Why is it that the left always has to resort to name calling when they try to argue a point? And at the same time, try to come off as intellectually superior to everyone else? ...Just the facts, please.

I understand that even though Obama was nominated 2 weeks after he was elected President and that he had nearly 9 months in office until he was given the award. But what "extraordinary efforts" did he take to restore diplomacy & cooperation between nations? Increasing the national debt far worse than the last spend-a-holic administration did so that the Chinese can move into the properties they are gobbling up over here?

Careful of that "change" that's comin!!!
