To Beck it has always been personal. He calls the younger generation selfish while complaining about the high taxes that he has to pay. Talk about selfish, the Tea Party people are the same. They complain about not wanting to "saddle our children with debt" when their real goal is to keep taxes low for themselves and shifting that debt burden onto their children.

As for the rising debt, I don't think it was the 18 year olds graduating from high school or the 22yr old people graduating from college that caused the housing market to collapse and send us into a global depression. If anything, it was the ridiculous deficit that was used to fund the Iraq War, the poor planning of the Fed, and the irresponsible actions of lending institutions in creating insolvent loans. But of course, Beck would have you believe that young people did this because they were not raised in his image.

I'm going to finish school in 2011 and enter the work force. As far as I am concerned, the stimulus was necessary because I would like to have a job when I get out. I am more than happy to help pay it back with higher taxes over my lifetime. However, I think I have worked plenty hard over the past 5 1/2 yrs (and will work hard for the next 2yrs). Honestly, I don't think that a job in which I will make anywhere from 20k to 50k less than my peers is rather unreasonable to expect. I just actually want to be able to work in my profession when I get out. However, according to Beck, "I think I am entitled to a job," and apparently to Beck, I am in the wrong and being selfish.

          Exactly!
Beck, the selfish young people are fighting this war for you.
They are not fighting to protect us from terrorists. They are fighting for Haliburton stockholders! They are fighting because Lockheed Martin built new technologies, and Lockheed Martin needs to sell those technologies. Lockheed Martin cannot sell its product without a war, and The United States cannot test their new shiny military toys without a war. Hence, we got ourselves two good ol' never-ending wars fighting in the name of 'freedom'. And isn't that the best kind of war if you're a company that makes its profit based on defense budget spending?
But, none of this matters to you. You don't care that my generation is returning home with over 4 traumatic brain injuries, and they can no longer function in daily life and society, do you? You don't care if young men and women are dying, do you? They are cannon fodder, aren't they?
We are selfish cannon fodder left with melting polar ice caps/climate change/global warming, an enormous deficit, a financial crisis, a housing crisis, a college tuition that has more than doubled since 1996, peak oil, no alternative energy, no healthcare, no social security, vanishing ecosystems, unemployment, credit card debt, 40 year-mortgages, and an over-populated Earth.
And, why do we have all of these things? Oh yes, because YOU were selfish! So pardon me, but yes I am angry, and I demand that this nation move forward past the narcissitic paradigm that you have so "lovingly" bestowed upon us and toward a world where people think less about "me" and more about "we". But, why live in a clean, peaceful, and equal world when greed, racism, and violence are so much fun for network ratings and your paycheck, right?

I can only assume he is talking about his own children because no one can generalize to that extent. Outside of the "step aside grandma" there is nothing wrong with the letter. Even that was obvious sarcasm playing on the garbage FOX promotes like "death panels to kill grandma." The letter was talking about past politicians, not his parent beck!

The contestant on a reality show is the result of the young generation. How about the people who created the shows or allowed them to air? Ya know, the execs that are mostly over 50.

Its called reform beck - like the world changes and you have to change with it. How about global warming, how about financial collapses, how about two wars? That wasn't making things worse for the newest generation? That doesn't require new changes?

Speak for yourself Glenn, my children are not spoiled or entitled. Both of them favor health care reform and both of them favor environmentism, both of them donate their time to helping other people. Maybe your older children turned out so badly because you were too drunk and self-centered to raise them properly. You have no place to pontificate on this issue because you were a bad father who abandoned his family. Most of your rants are remarkably self-reflective. You are an evil, spoiled, self-loathing mess who wants a lot that you aren't really entitled to.

He knows that the more BS he feeds you and the more you believe it and come back for more, the more money he makes. He doesn't care that the BS is destroying our country nor that the BS is causing some of the idiots who believe his BS to hurt other people . . . he just cares that he's going to be putting more money in his pockets.

Please enlighten us about the founding principles of this country that made it great (and please don't quote Beck and his books). Was one of them to allow people to die because they can't afford healthcare? Or was it to allow hospitals to shift the healthcare costs of uninsured individuals to the general populace thus raising insurance rates? Or was it to allow others to profit off of people's individual infirmities while offering no medical assistance? I'm not sure which one it was, but could you tell me?

I really don't understand how so many people can completely ignore a problem by relying on American "exceptionalism" as a justification. Times have changed and refusing to change with them is unreasonable. We can't stick our collective heads in the sand everytime a problem confronts the US. Oh, and by the way, it is the government's duty to provide for the "Common Welfare" which would include healthcare reform. This might not include a single payer system, but would include at least some kind of reduction in healthcare costs.

Mr. Beck really has no clue about MY Generation. We didn't get to experience growth in this country. We are a generation of Ronald Reagan "trickle down economics" and it's never really trickled down. We have been sent to fight wars that people of Beck's age thought WE needed to fight..not you Glen...kids MY age (I'm 37). Older generations had the GI bill to come home to when they fought wars. Yes, there are things the WE know that YOU don't know Mr. Beck..it's called the generation of WE. WE are worried about healthcare that we can't afford...wages staying flat and senseless wars that you will send us to fight FOR you. WE worry about college loans that need to be paid and WE can't get a job because YOUR generation screwed things up so badly that now WE have to work to fix it.

If you cant afford healthcare get a second job.

If you are unable to get or hold a job, it could be you as unemployable or unskilled or unmotivated. 9 of 10 employable people do have jobs. If you really want a job EARN IT instead of feeling sorry for yourself. As to wars, Viet Nam was started by a Democrat, Iraq by a Republican. Only goes to show you that both parties are equal opportunity war-mongers.

He's still hammering down the final facts and ironing out the wrinkles before his big reveal of the huge scandal that will bring this adminstration to its final crawling knees.

I mean we all here at MMfA saw the threats Glenn made that Anita Dunn, "would have to go away," once he revealed information on his program that night........ though most of us are still waiting and wondering what that news was supposed to be, beause he either forgot to mention it or it didn't have the effect he had anticipated if he did mention it. Last I checked, she is still part of the administration, but these things take time. Especially if you want to keep an audience on pins and needles and tuning in every night with high hopes that tonight will be the night that it will all come down.

      "Come mothers and fathers
      Throughout the land
      And don't criticize
      What you can't understand
      Your sons and your daughters
      Are beyond your command
      Your old road is
      Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'."

      - Bob Dylan

P.S. I seem to recall seeing a lot of 912 sentiment declaring "keep your hands off MY healthcare."

All we want, Mr. Beck and fans, is a chance for everyone to get quality healthcare. For people to not have to live in shame, and have to wait until they are deathly ill and then go to an emergency room, when it is often too late. For them not to be ashamed of going to the emergency room for something like a broken ankle, or a seizure, and costing the tax payer so much money on emergency care. We don't want free healthcare for all - we simply want all to have a chance at healthcare without going bankrupt.

Why is this so much to ask? Why are we selfish for wanting this? Why has the cost of health insurance gone up 130% over the past 10 years, and why has Humana's gross profit also gone up 130% over the past 10 years? Based on those two simple figures, it's abundandly clear that the increase in cost is not going towards helping people, but towards making a very select few people very wealthy.

Now, ask yourself, who really are the "me!" "me!" "me!" people?

Glenn Beck, please read the second part of "Rights of Man", written by a man you supposedly admire very much, Thomas Paine. You should be ashamed of yourself - there's no doubt Mr. Paine would be.

I believe in those who stand behind the Bill of Rights, our Constitution, and all Consstitutional amendments passed by state by state referendum. I believe that those on the left, the ACLU, the New York Times, NBC, ABC and CBS seek the destruction of our Constitution in deference to centralized government via socialism, fascism or even communism. I am thankful that we have voices like Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Fox News to balance the threats of the left who would shut down Constitutionally protected FREE SPEECH and the RIGHT TO PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY.

i also believe that MEDIAMATTERS is the left at its worst so I am content that there are counterbalancing voices who stand up for our freedom and liberty.

You are hilarious, claiming that the ACLU wants to destroy the Constitution, when they are sometimes the only people protecting it on a day to day basis, which is their entire mission statement. You should really go back, and review what they do.

Also, who on the left has tried to destroy the Constitution? Nobody. What has Obama done that is un-Constitutional? Nothing.

Socialism doesn't exist in America, and we're not even remotely close to it. You can take that talking point right away.

Who has tried to shut down free speech? Nobody. Who has tried to stop protesting? Nobody (well, sometimes conservatives have tried, but that's a different story, like well screened audiences, free speech zones, and things like that that President Bush did when he was President).

What is bad about MMFA? What are they doing that is wrong, or misinformation? Please be specific.

See, you've got a lot of talking points, which tells me you do listen to Rush, Beck, at all, and it also tells me that those are the same voices where you get your "information" as it were, and it also shows me as to how and why you are ignorant of reality.

At the age of 72, I have followed the ACLU for years. I have also read its history. The ACLU is fully responsible for promulgation of the concept of a "living" Constitution and "Legislating from the bench." A "living" constitution is equivalent to no Constitution at all as it subjects the Constitution to generational whims of the bench. The Constitution itself affords the ability to amend its contents through the passage by 30 states of state by state referendoms. The ACLU does not find this to be convenient thus it promotes the concept of a "living" constitution. In simple terms the ACLU has prevented a child from bringing a Bible to school BUT it has made no attempt or acknowledgement of the childs right of free speech.

Yes, I do listen to Beck, Limbaugh, etc. and I also watch CBS, NBC and ABC and i read the New York Times. Everytime I do, I am left with "how could they NOT have asked such obvious questions?" and I can only conclude that they have an AGENDA and do not find that question to be convenient to the left. SO BE IT!

You are obviously of the left and have much venom to offer to me. Obviously, I am a constitutionalist but I am willing to converse without acrimony.

Oh, and last time I checked, Congress had not attempted to pass any laws restricting freedom of assembly or free speech. Unless and until they do, your First Amendment rights are intact.

As for MMFA . . . what have they done to be the "left at its worst"? They simply post audio and video clips of your heroes saying stupid, incorrect and decidedly non-conservative things. Your heroes need to take responsibility for what they are saying and quit shooting the messenger.

            Check Congress again...

Legislation currently is before Congress that would reinstate a federal communications policy known as the "FAIRNESS DOCTRINE." The legislation, entitled the "Fairness in Broadcasting Act of 1993," is sponsored in the Senate (S. 333) by Ernest Hollings, the South Carolina Democrat, and in the House (H.R. 1985) by Bill Hefner, the North Carolina Democrat. It would codify a 1949 Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulation that once required broadcasters to "afford reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views of public importance." The fairness doctrine was overturned by the FCC in 1987. The FCC discarded the rule because, contrary to its purpose, it failed to encourage the discussion of more controversial issues. There were also concerns that it was in violation of First Amendment free speech principles.

The result of a reinstituted fairness doctrine would not be fair at all. In practice, much controversial speech heard today would be stifled as the threat of random investigations and warnings discouraged broadcasters from airing what FCC bureaucrats might refer to as "unbalanced" views.

In application, the doctrine would only apply to broadcast radio but would take a pass on major media, CBS,NBC, ABC and print media which are largely PIMPS FOR THE LEFT.

SURE LOOKS LIKE PLANS FOR SUPPRESSION OF FREE SPEECH TO ME!

Holy Crap!Got your panties in a twist there, big guy?

That was quite the rant for a single letter to the editor for which we have no idea how old the author was, what the context of the comments were, or anythying else for that matter. And because of that letter, Glenn Beck is going to paint everyone under the age of thirty with such a broad stroke. I am guessing that people like James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles are the exceptions that prove Beck's rule.

I would hope this isn't true, but I have to ask, how many innocent kids just got an ass whippin' from their parents for no reason at all?

I'm 26 and the truly ironic thing about all of this is that when I talk to my friends (those in my age group) none of them mind the idea of being forced to buy insurance in order to bring down costs for older folks. In fact, the only complaint any of them (myself included) have is that they want a public option so they're at least not forced to pay some health insurance CEO's salary.

The other funny thing is that Beck, with every passing day, is further marginalizing himself by alienating potential viewers. He has called health reform reparations, referred to the POTUS as having a deep-seated "hatred for white people," and now called an entire generation a bunch of snot-nosed whiners. Is it really any wonder why so many people refer to Beck and his ilk as pondering to old white people? These are the only people he has yet to offend.

      Beck contradicts himself again.
Exactly one week ago, Beck was warning America that the vast left wing conspiracy was going to inundate TV with messages that promote public service and volunteerism (http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200910190038). He wanted to protect us from that kind of Maoist indoctrination.

Today he blames everyone born after 1980 for being selfish and says that it's this selfishness that the vast left wing conspiracy is going to exploit.

So one week, he wants to protect our selfishness from exploitation. The next week he says that we have to stop being selfish to avoid exploitation.

I find it amusing that he starts his rant about new generation - calling it THE ME GENERATION (which is, in fact, HIS generation that has that name) -- anyway he starts the entire bit with showing his picture on the cover of TIME. LOL! He couldn't be more wrong. I am at a big university in Calif. Students today do not expect jobs, help with tuition, or anything handed to them. They do seem concerned with Human Rights and giving back. He's so far afield here I think it is just dry drunk projection.

Well said jonesjax! I have an older daughter that just graduated-it took her a bit longer because of both her working and singing at benefits. My younger 2 are both in college, working full time, my son is also volunteering his time to help the indigenous people in Guam, (where he lives & studies) I couldn't be more proud of their hard work, personal responsibility and especially, their compassion for others. This rant went on for much longer than the clip-it was about 24 minutes--ALL of it trashing the youngest, smartest, and most united, compassionate youth I've ever been honored to know. I'm sure our brave servicemen and women would be shocked and outraged at the broad brush Beck is using to classify them, basically, as uncaring, uneducated, killers. And THEN--Hannity, and Beck, et al., are actively trashing college education--because it's so "far, far left"/liberal. 10yrs from now the Repubs will find some reason to blame the Dems for all the college drop-outs. And YES "jones", everything this psycho says is projection. He brings is audience of zombies IN with the old: "everyone else thinks you're to stupid to understand, but *I* know how SMART you are and will tell you the TRUTH" speech. And KEEPS them in with theatrics and mysterious promises; twisting one small nugget of truth, into a conspiracy only a dry drunk could make up.
On Friday-I guess because his curtained "surprise" has mysteriously disappeared, SO, instead, THIS FRIDAY: The "Global Warming Hoax" and the "inevitable One World Govt.", Starring Lord Monteban and war/violence/hatred loving former UN Ambassador Bolton!! No time like Fri. for a cold soft drink, popcorn, and some Sci-Fi Fantasy!!

          All good stuff.

Just based on my own personal experiences from college, I too had to work almost full time when I was in school (I say almost, because I averaged like 25-30 hours per week of work), and had to balance that with getting loans to help pay for my schooling, tuition, books, meals, and so on. Why did I do that? Well, my parents, who had 5 kids, were really in no position to help me out financially, even though they wanted to, but I wouldn't let them. I wouldn't take their money for college, so I worked, and worked hard. Graduated in 4.5 years with a BS in engineering. I'm also proud to say that since I graduated high school, I have not received, nor taken any money offered to me by my parents (aside from a 20 spot here or there for a little extra birthday money, or something like that).

Now, in my mid 30's, I still work hard, I work now helping to protect our soldiers who are in combat every day, I volunteer to give back, pay my taxes without complaint, and realize that it makes me feel better to work hard, and to give back, and what do I expect in return? Nothing really, nothing at all. Sometimes I get a thank you, and sometimes, I don't, doesn't matter to me.

Beck is a moron, as proven again, talking about selfishness, which he is the king of. Also, he's trying to alienate young folks from joining the republican party, well, well done Glenn, well done. It's not as if the republican party doesn't already trend really old, with rants like this, it ain't gonna get much better.

"We have raised a generation of would-be killers"

When I first read the headline, I thought he was bragging about the effects of right wing radio, and the paranoid fans who go to political speeches carrying firearms.

It did seem weird for him to be talking about raising the Fox Fan generation, mostly in the 50 to 90 year old demographic.

While I'm sure there's a lot in here that's hypocritical or contradicting something that Beckie has said previously... this is the closest I've ever been in agreeing with him! Out of an 8 minute clip I'd say I was with him for about 3:30 at the beginning and probably 2 minutes near the end.

Yes, in very general terms, he's right... the new generation are morons. Keep in mind I said "generally speaking". There are plenty of exceptions.. and hopefully enough of them to keep the country from sliding into an "Idiocracy".

Of course he got a few jabs in there... namely cutting off Obama out of context.

Oh.. and before I get plastered for saying this, realize that 5 minutes of the most bizarre serendipity does NOT change my feelings about this loon.

Even before our country was born, we had people railing on and on about how the youth were the misguided, and the stupid. Thing is, this is nothing new. Even back in Roman times, there were rants like this against the youth.

This is just yet another re-heated old rant that has been done time and again throughout the history of mankind, and our country.

I agree - people have always bemoaned the ignorant youth. From what I've seen, today's high school students are a lot better informed than my fellow students were (which was about 20 years ago - yikes!).

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

I don't know whether to laugh my ass off or scream at the moon??

That this piece of trash FRAUD can sit there in front of the camera and actually beat up on the very thing that he spent 8 years under Bush defending... the so-called 'ME' society!

Anyone else notice how every example this piece of garbage used was Democrats... not Republicans, who are just as guilty, if not more so, for the current messed up society we now all find ourselves living in!

I wonder which is worse... that this bastard can be so blatant in his sick rant making no damn sense or that those that actually watch this FRAUD will not realize they have been lied too again??

I can't help but think that Beck must be talking about himself. He purports how the younger gen. hasn't learned how to lose. In the last election the conservatives lost and Beck isn't taking it too well. He keeps spouting how this is our (his) country and he wants it back. Spoiled much??
