      We report. You decide.

      Mission accomplished.

From this report I have decided that Bettelheim has told the truth with convincing credibility and that Colby has read her recyled script of requisite fearmongering talking points with a straight face.

Colby has a future at Fox.

These people will not rest until everyone is dead!

Never have I witness such a group of uncaring, un-American, inhuman scum!

At least when Al Qeada terrorized us on 9/11 (and since), they were open and honest as to why!

This was asked in another thread to which I repeated then and again now... how many more bodies will it take before the right-wing gives a damn?

Well, they won't rest until everyone is afraid of them. And I believe that fewer and fewer are being scared by them. They know this, and so that's what ratcheting up their rhetoric.

There's never been any death panels. There's always been very justifiable end-of-life counselling that Medicare is going to pay for to let older people know what their options are.

It may lead to more people choosing hospice care over massive medical procedures that are only going to extend their lives for relatively short periods of time with little quality added to their lives overall. That would be a good thing for our healthcare dollars, for their families, and for the elderly patients. Too often, in the past, we extended life whenever possible without much regard to the quality of life we were giving those people. I remember a time when Living Wills didn't exist, when it was virtually never an option to stop medical treatment. We know better now.

But even if it leads to more people choosing less invasive and less expensive medical treatments when faced with serious, terminal illnesses, that doesn't mean that death panels exist. If people choose to fight with every ounce of energy they have to stay alive forever, then let them. They'll be no medical profesional or government bureaucrat telling them that they must forego treatment to save us some money.

Actually, DD, there are death panels--they just usually go by the name "claims adjusters." But since they're good Gawd-furrin' capitalists, the right has no problem with them...

OK no out right death panel but what happens when the money runs out and people can longer be taxed to give "FREE" medical insurance to everyone? Can you tell me that?

Tell me why the NEW TAXES in this bill starts NOW but the plan does not kick in until 2013?? If we have people DYING in the streets now why wait until 2013?

Instead of a 1900 page bill how about just signing those who don't have health care onto the plan our legislators use? No bill needed how is that for a idea!?!?

Health care reform with 1900 page in a bill sound more like RESTRUCTURING to me not reform.

You are exactly right. If you look up the word "reform" you will see that one of its meanings is "restructuring" So this is not a political game of semantics, or any kind of "bait and switch" ploy by the Democrats.

I think I have seen you trolling before at this website. So against my better judgement, I am going to assume for a moment that you are not just here in an attempt harrass us. If you are expressing real questions and concerns, this is not the place for endless dialogue to answer you. All comments to this thread will close by Monday.
If you don't fear challenges to the preconceived positions you have expressed, then I assure you that the following link will take you to the Congerssional website that lays out all the facts for you. It is a table of contents that answers everything. I urge you to use this link. If you choose not to then you are a delusional phoney who wants to remain ignorant and you and need to go away.

Now, if your next reaction is that this is a link to information that cannot be trusted, then your only remedy is consider securing a passport and finding another country. Your choice. You can access Fox from where ever you decide to settle. But definitely don't come back here.

No my friend if you want "free" health care pack your bags and move to England, Canada, Cuba, Venezuela or any other country with "free" health care. Oh and don't forget to bring plenty of money so they can tax you for that "free" health care.

No I don't trust it they said social security and Medicare and Medicaid would not cast that much but it does. How about cleaning up the estimated 60 billion a year in fraud first.

Why don't congress just hold open enrollment on their plan and let every one with out health care sign up and pay that premium??

Next if you want "free" health care allow the one's who don't want it to opt out of it and not pay for it, in other words DON'T raise my taxes to pay for your "free" health care. While we are at it let me have my 7.5 percent I put into social security returned to me. OH yes I want my kids to go to private school reduce my property taxes to reflect a refund.

      WTF!?

"What this bill would do would take things one step further by ordering Medicare to pay once every five years should the beneficiary want to have these consultations with a doctor or another health counsellor. Basically it's a payment mechanism for these sort of consultations."
      - Adriel Belheim (not sure if that was spelled correctly)

"But the uproar, not only from former Alaska governer Sarah Palin who likened them to 'Death Panels', many people felt that's exactly what it was. That the government was saying if you have a disease that is too expensive to treat at some point your doctor could give you this counseling and say 'sorry, time's up'. There's a lot of concern about this. Why were Democrats so set on having this be a part of this proposal?"
      - Colby

As we can see by the type of conversation here, Belheim clearly explains the 'end-of-life counseling' is nothing more than a payment system to the patient for consultations. The consultations have been around since 1990 and the government is not involved. These are decisions to be made between the patient and their doctor.

Instead of Colby agreeing that 'death panels' don't exist she repeats the fear, followed by why do democrats want this.

Colby states that many people felt(believed) there were 'death panels'. True. The many people being everyone at Fox and the sheeple they convinced it was true.

Lastly, Colby shouldn't be questioning the Democrats. She should ask "why are the Republicans so dead set against this measure?" since obviously there are no 'death panels' and no government panel is making any decisions as to people's health choices.

It's all about how you say things. Republicans have learned well, the art of spinning. This is what bothers me tremendously about FNC and probably even more so than the outright smears. They comment how they are fair and balanced (at least on their news shows). However, it's not just what you say but also how you say it. I think Jon Stewart's clip a few days ago was absolutely amazing. It is helping to expose this type of angled journalism. I just wish that FNC would have enough guts to say what they mean rather than being crafty in the language.

I agree with your comment about the question. It really should have been "why are the Republicans so dead set against this measure?" Sadly, FNC will keep this garbage up and continue to lie by omission. Such as, saying that numerous critics have called the children singing in NJ, school indoctrination, when it's just a few FNC commentators.

So basically, Bettelheim literally told Colby exactly what that section of the bill means (that it is nothing more than a payment plan/financing structure for insured patients who need a consultation for end-of-life decision making), and then she ignored him entirely and squeezed the phrase "death panel" in there again for the hell of it?

I don't know, that's just what I'm getting out of this. Honestly, even die-hard FOX fans should be able to see here that this "death panel" nonsense is nothing more than a device to pick at the public's support for this bill.

Apologies for my grammar, it's 3 AM here and I can't sleep. Hope my post makes sense.
