We're paying double right now and getting inferior results.

      That's why we need reform.

Thirty years ago, I was one of those young people who did not care too much about health insurance, and if there was movement in Congress to expand health care, or to reform it, I can't recall.

Well, today I am older and wiser and would have benefitted from
health care reform and a public option if it had been provided to me. Ten years ago, I was underemployed and uninsured and had to pay almost 20,000 out of pocket for a necessary surgery. Just a few years ago my wife had gall bladder surgery. Her insurance from her job only covered 70 percent..we are still paying on that! We are also still paying on credit card debt we foolishly used to pay for some hospital bills for the birth of our son. I can add the hours and days spent between calls to the insurance company and the doctors billing office over a disputed charge concerning the birth of our daughter. We finally paid it out of our income tax refund.

Yes, today's young people will pay if this reform DOES NOT pass! My family and I certainly have.

I wrote to Retchin' Gretchen last week and she still hasn't gotten back to me. Oh, and Wretch, I mean Gretch, the Democrats aren't split, they are as they have always been, a big mess of a party, the one thing that unites us is our dislike for Republicans and Conservatives. What was it that Will Rogers said? "I'm not a member of an organized party, I'm a Democrat."

Gretchen must "NOT" know that most Americans have ALWAYS been 'Conservatives' in EVERY political party be it "DEMOCRAT", "IDEPENDENT", or "REPUBLICAN", LOL.

Gretchen, FoxNews Channel and Republicans are now 'wrapping' themselves with 'Conservative' Brands so to "NOT" be identified with their original brand of Republican-Conservatives. Uh, oh.

Republicans 'run and hide' (avoid Republican Brands like the plague) instead of "fixing" the things Republicans "broke" over the past 8 years (two Wars, Bailouts, Deficits, Foreclosures, FEMA, etc. etc.). A "GREAT" plan indeed, LOL.

I can't believe that Carlson tried to push the 40% Republican / 20% Democrat lie and she was going to add Fox did this poll when it was Hannity just a few days ago saying that result came from Gallup, which it doesn't.

Just visit Gallup's poll results and you can see for yourself that nobody says 40% consider themselves Republican and 20% consider themselves Democrat. In fact, it's more like 37% say they are Democrat while 27% say they are Republican.

I have to stand partially corrected that Carlson was referring to Conservative/Liberal ideology, not Republican/Democrat ideology.

Most people see themselves as Conservative but majority identify themselves with the Democrats.

So, have Republicans become too conservative, or is this the new direction of the country?" This country has never been as conservative as FOX Propaganda would like to believe, Ms. Carlson. That's the simple answer to that question. Your guest pointed out that the millennials are tending more progressive than their parents, who were progressive already. This is a center-left country, a trend that dates from the '50s.

So, Valerie Jarrett has a point that the Republicans are split, and that warrants immediate mention that the Democrats are split as well?

Actually, the Democrats are not split. They represent a broad spectrum, from conservative to liberal, but the leadership is unified behind the President. Just because Democrats tend to be a little more self directed does not make them 'split'. Just means getting them to agree on anything is like herding cats. On the other hand, Republicans seem very content to march all together in straight lines, but they currently have several different leaders none of whom seem to have any direction or coherent plan.

Let's see if those young people feel when they're not ranked sbove 37th in the world for health care. That will teach them.

I think that poll proves a couple of things.

      1) Fox and Talk Radio have done a pretty effective job of demonizing the word "liberal." Its a wonder that anyone would identify themselves as a liberal considering the daily assault on that word.

      2) A few that identify themselves as conservative have no idea what bing "conservative" means, but know that being called a liberal is for some reason suppose to be bad. Like being called a Communist, Marxist, Socialist or Fascist. Being conservative is to be an American. To be a liberal is to be anything but an American.

      3) With the identity crisis that the Republican party and the Conservative movement are having, I'm not sure how they could say that Conservatives are somehow the majority when they are inighting amongst themselves over who is and isn't "Conservative enough." If a candidate is not conservative enough, they are thrown out with the trash and branded "liberals" or Democrats masquerading as Republicans and Conservatives.

A very ugly minority is trying to take over the term "conservative" and they will destroy the reputations of anyone who gets in their way.

Twenty eight years ago we took our baby to the emergency room for a high fever that wouldn't go away. After six hours, we were relieved that our baby would be fine and we discussed how the trip cost us about the equivalent of two days' pay. Whew! $200 but we would survive. Last month my grown up child took her child to the emergency room and six hours later they had racked up $2800. Nothing major, just tests. By the way, that's 42 days' pay for her. Just saying.

Bottom line is that the so-called conservative movement is floundering...and that makes people like Carlson squirm.

I wonder how the young people feel as they watch their future inheritence getting wiped out as their parents lose their savings and homes to pay for health care?

I love how she uses a Fox poll as proof of anything? Especially when the statement her guest was trying to make was the younger generation is more progressive... but it's okay, the GOP will be fine alienating 40% of the electorate... good plan!

Carlson: "Let's see how young people feel about health care reform ... when they're paying for it"

Um Carlson most young people are uninsured and when they go to the hospital they pay out of pocket for care. If they can not afford it guess who pays for it the TAXPAYERS! So I as a member of the young people brachet will enjoy the reform that is overdue for this country.

Someone made a point that young people want reform but are less likely to get sick and will be paying for the older people who are more likely to get sick and are retired. But, the older people don't want reform. This is some complicated stuff.
