Take the racial context out of it, and he makes a brilliant point.

Just as blue jeans in the 50s were worn by rock & roll singers and other rebels, taken from the denim work clothes issued to most prisoners of the era. Plus ca change, plus la meme chose. Along the same idea, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. In summer school!

A little off topic but I JUST NOW read this odd entry about Savage on Wikipedia - look up Allen Ginsberg and Gay Rights. Is this true? Seems a complete 180 from Savage today.

Sorry for confusion. The entry is under Allen Ginsberg, under subheading Gay Rights. Happy hunting!

Yes, Savage was some sort of intimate of Ginsberg's back when his politics skewed left.

There is the long-standing theory that Savage is a self-hating closeted homosexual. This is supported not only by the apparent nature of his relationship with Ginsberg, but also by a semi-autobiographical piece of fiction ("Vital Signs") where the main character, Samuel Trueblood, wrestles with his homosexual urges. The linked Salon article does a particularly good job of detailing Savage's career up through 2003.

Eh, I wouldn't call Savage's brilliant. This is how fashion has worked for the better part of the last century. More incisive, I think, is how Sasha Baron Cohen's "Bruno" summed up the fashion industry during an interview with a designer at a fashion show with the theme, "trashy fashion". I'm paraphrasing from memory, but I'm pretty sure he said something close to this:

(To be read in a heavy fake Austrian accent): "So you take the clothes from the poor people and you put them on the models in the shows and then you sell the clothes in the big shops and now the poor people can't afford their own clothes! Ha ha ha! I love it! That is the beauty of fashion!"

If Savage wanted to talk about how the fashion industry perpetually borrows from the styles of lower classes in order to maximize profit, that might be a worthwhile conversation. If he wanted to talk about particular types of malnutrition and why they're common, fine. But this rant is just about his disappointment in white kids who he apparently thinks should know better inherently: he doesn't like their clothes, he doesn't like their music, he doesn't like their food, he doesn't like how they perform gender distinctions, and he doesn't like their bodies. Savage, call yourself a wahmbulance, ya' old timer.

Hey, get the hell off my lawn, you punks! - Michael Savage

Did he say that? No. Might as well have in the clip above.

Is this supposed to be another example of how "racist" Savage is or something, because frankly, I think he makes a good point: and I'm black!

I'm sick of seeing these idiot kids' (white, black, or whatever) underwear myself. Tell it like it is, Savage.

Oh, I agree . . . I laugh at these kids when they're walking along and their pants start falling down . . . the funniest is when the kid's pants fell so low, he almost tripped. They're kids trying to look cool. They don't bother me one way or the other.

Well, a fair point (it is a matter of taste) which, compared to his usual swill, might seem brilliant.

Using discrimination tactics is not new with Savage. I wonder if Savage knows about the rumors on him. Especially one of a picture a friend has taken.
