Funny. I heard Gibbs this morning state that NJ and VA Gov races were irrelevant and the only important race last night was NY 23. And the MMFA/Kos/Huffpo/Think Progress say darn near the same thing.

Coordination must be a good thing.

corzine wasn't going to win because of his wall street background. people are angered about that for sure.

as for virginia? deeds wasn't a strong candidate to begin with and everyone knew it.

thats why both races were irrelevant.

now the ny 23 was very important given the national attention it got and the number of neo con idiots that tried to make it such a big deal and embarrassed themselves by getting involved in it. and then losing it anyway.

Because of his Wall St. background? Hahaha... if he actually used applied his Wall St. background, he wouldn't have choked the state with high taxes, especially property taxes, which were the highest in the country.

Voters have had enough of being squeezed for failing programs and wasteful spending. It was time for some real hopenchange and they'll get it with Christie.

"as for virginia? deeds wasn't a strong candidate to begin with and everyone knew it."

I will grant you that. I only voted for him because of his being a Democrat, interesting thing, however, for the last 32 years, Virginia has voted for a person of the opposite party in the White House. There was also a lower turnout of Obama voters in this election. In my school district, a bond issued passed 70-30, and a Democrat was elected as State Delegate. Ireally hate term limits. I would have been very happy to retain Tim Kaine as Governor.

actually i find term limits to be a good thing. i think they should be stricter actually. continuous flow of new blood.

i would actually like to see it be required for everyone to hold some political office at some point in their life.

or a different tack on term limits....i think the romans had a good idea on this one.....make it so that a certain period of time passes before someone could hold a particular office for a second time. the romans made it so that once a man was consul...ten years had to pass before he could run for a second term.

Virginia has a one term limit for Governor. I do not know if Virginia law allows for a second, non-consecutive term. I can tell you though, I am not especially fond of how Virginia governs itself. I have always looked on elections as the term limit. If the people don't like the person, they will vote them out, if they like the person, they stay in. Term limits have generally been proposed by Republicans when they couldn't defeat a popular Democrat.

Well, that's what the exit polls taken of the actual voters in those two states said when asked. They confirmed that they still like Obama a great deal. Amazing, huh?

Just out of curiousity, pup . . .

If two off-year governors races {out of fifty} are a "referendum" on president in office for ten months,

Were 33 US Senate and 435 US House seats {one-third and 100 per cent, respectively} a "referendum" on a president in office for six years?

          Additionally --

If the Dems losing two governorships -- while GAINING two House seats (one of which had been in GOP hands since the Grant Administration) is a "bloodbath for Democrats",

          Was the 2006 midterm election, where Dems took back the majority in Congress for the first time in 12 years, and not a SINGLE incumbent Dem up for reelection lost their seat, a "bloodbath for Republicans"? {Before you give the FOX-approved spin/answer, keep in mind that Bubble Boy Bush himself described it as a "thumpin'".}

          I breathlessly await your reply.

          Tick-tock . . .

Well, what they are saying is true. In the overall scheme of things, the fact that the majority party, the Democrats, picked up two more seats in the House, thereby increasing their majority, is much more significant with regard to the President and his party's agenda than the expected loss of two state governorships. The relevance of NY-23 is that a Democrat has been elected there for the first time in 130+ years to represent them in Congress. This is an UBER-conservative district which rejected the phony conservative pushed on them by Beck, Palin, Bachmann, et buds. That's news. Virginia's historically predictable win and the win over a very unpopular Democratic governor in NJ had nothing to do with Obama, according to the exit polls.

I was saying this last week . . . it's called critical thinking.

Well then, picking up 2 more seats in the house should make it that much easier for the democrats to get something done, right? It WON'T because more and more critical thinking democrats are joining ranks with already critical thinking republicans and independents who see the mess Obama is creating. It's time to cut our losses!

            I'm not a democrat . . . I'm a moderate conservative who doesn't vote for the letter in the ( ).

And, based upon your posts here, you aren't a conservative and you NEVER exercise ANY critical thinking at all. You simply post the spin, hyperbole and dishonesty that you glean from Fox and hate talk radio. You post it here and assume that doing so makes you a conservative.

Turn off Fox and hate talk radio and start thinking for yourself. Those folks are lying to you. Obama hasn't made a mess . . . that mess was left to him by the decidedly non-conservative and HORRIBLY incompetent administration of GWB. I wasn't an Obama supporter, but given the crap he's had to shovel since he was elected . . . I think he's doing a fairly good job . . . I don't approve of his handling of some things, particularly the handling of the crimes of the last administration and the FISA amendment, but then, he has kind of had his hands full for the past 9 months with the Bush crap.

Try reading and using you brain, puppies. You'll feel better.

I don't listen to Fox news and I don't have an AM radio in my truck. The few chances I get to listen to Glenn Beck and healthy doses of msnbc and cnn are MY sources of the news, as well as the internet. You've fallen into the same abyss as most of the folks on this website. You have made it clear that any criticism of the Obama administration is based on erroneous information from the MSM and that detracters of Obama are simply ignorant or stupid or both and are racist. Nothing could be further from the truth but it is much easier for someone like you to wrap yourself up in the protective cloth of a website dedicated to protecting, at all costs, the daily terpitudes of a failing presidency. Good luck. Luck is all you have left.

Those news sources you trust suspiciously seem to have fallen into the Fox News abyss of believing that the loss of a House seat from a traditionally strong Republican district is somehow a win for the conservative movement.

Teabagger logic I'm guessing. They've become stronger because they've become weaker.

I used to think this was dishonesty on the part of the wingnuts, but I'm starting to believe it's really a kind of self-hypnosis that they inflict on themselves to avoid any accountability.

They make ignorant comments, and are called ignorant. They make racist comments and are called racist. They repeat factually wrong talking points, and have these pointed out.

Then, if they don't just disappear to do it all over again on another thread, they start whining that they're called ignorant, racist and confused simply because they criticize or disagree with Obama.

Personal responsibility isn't the wingnut strong suit.

If they were so irrelevant, why did Obama campaign hard there multiple times? Obama himself said that the election was very important in his robo-calls to the state.

But whatever, if Gibbs said it was irrelevant, than by golly it was all just a meaningless exercise.

It can be irrelevant to YOU, if that makes you feel better...
