What insular protection? Is anyone really sticking up for this guy? I haven't seen one report saying anything other than the fact that this man was clearly mentally disturbed. That's not a defense; that's an observation. How can the narrative be that ANYONE is defending Hasan right now? It's just not happening.

What Steyn means is that the MSM are not up in arms denouncing Islam by focusing on the fact that the shooter was Muslim and that he probably was angry at America...despite the fact that he served in the U.S. military for years.

While I think it is perfectly legitimate to explore whether this individual had become a radical Islamist, it is dangerous to throw accusations around the way the right wing would like to, because it unnecessarily inflames the nut jobs.

Right, and what I'm saying is that's not protective insulation the same way that a wool sweater isn't protective insulation from a bullet. If anything, the media--all media--would do well to do much less to stoke the fires of anti-Islamic sentiment.

Muslim lunatics, Christian lunatics, atheist lunatics... all I see are lunatics.

I'm defending Hasan, whatever the spelling is, by saying that its just desserts to the US Army collectively, not the unfortunate victims. Its just sadly ironic and amazing that it is not an avg. grunt that did this; when the US Army feels "National Security" and Army Discipline require us to compel volunteers to do things against their conscience. If the Army was confident in its missions being valid, it would trust enough Americans to volunteer and let those with second thoughts get out. The Army and us, as a nation instead try to manipulate and compel people into missions they don't believe in. Not to mention the great psychiatric service from providers choosing Army money over ethics. Very sad for the victims' families but on a sinking ship the rats will bit if you block them from getting off. A bit different than Virginia Tech's tragedy, the only common thread being our rich nation saying we can afford our wars but can't afford a better (mental) healthcare system, which may occasionally have to hold us when we see violence as the answer.

You mean that he was most likely mentally disturbed and not a "turrist" or a "jeehady". I would say, probably yes.

Or what. Reportedly, the shooters name is Jason Rodriguez. So...do you think we should maybe wait for facts, or just brand him as a member of the mexican mafia or some-such thing.

      *sigh*...Wingnuts.

I'm pretty sure nobody is insulating the shooter at Ft. Hood, and I'm pretty sure nobody will.

I for one am outraged that the politically correct mainstream media isn't focusing on the fact that this Florida shooter is Christian. They're just as guilty as the shooter, for allowing this culture of political correctness to persist.

      "gets the same protective insulation"

What "protective insulation"? He's under arrest and in the freaking hospital! Do wounded crazed mass murderers often have press conferences?

Especially wounded crazed UNCONSCIOUS mass murderers. From what I understand he was shot four times . . . while he's in stable condition, he still might not survive.

These people are shameless and rotten as hell. One has to wonder, what are they teaching their children? Issue after issue, all they do is display their ignorance, stupidity and hate and somehow manage to keep a job.
What ever happened to intelligence, integrity and responsibility? These people/broadcasters are devious and those who follow them are dangerous. America is in big trouble..
