I hope I do not offend anyone with what I am about to say:

SOME white people in aour nation are against the idea of minorities getting up out of poverty- making better lives for themselves. The last thing many of these folks is to see messages of inspiration in our prisons and black/latino communities. It sort of reminds me of back in the days of our Founding Fathers when it was against the law to teach slaves how to read.

      Its FEAR- plain and simple

GET OFF VAN JONES BECK! You already got him fired for no real reason - Vitter has slept with a prostitute multiple times before getting caught. Then, he admitted it, apologized and the GOP gave him a standing ovation! He is now running again for election. Jones signed a petition and probably didn't even read the whole thing. Ive signed about 10 petitions a week at one point - sometimes you skim. Which is worse signing a petition or breaking the law by soliciting a hooker. And Jones was in an advisory position while Vitter actually gets to make laws. You should be embarassed to call yourself part of the media. You are a disgrace and a stain upon this country sir. I can't wait to see your face behind bars - I know it will happen someday.

Beck has a vendetta against Jones . . . he wrongly believes that Jones was behind the Color of Change letter-writing campaign. Jones, while a founder of Color of Change, had not been associated with it since 2007. Beck is just trying to destroy the man.

Come to think of it- this morning Color of Change sent out a petition regarding Murdoch agreeing with Beck about Obama being a racist. Keep in mind Color of Change helped get all of Beck's advertisers dropped. This is about to get very interesting a small organization going up againt "The Man" himself Rupert Murdoch...the stuff is about to hit the fan

How about the lawsuit against the post? Talk about interesting. That lawyer posted on her yesterday seemed determined to rip through defendents one by one. I really liked his attitude as he seemed so ambitious about the whole thing. I would be a little more reserved about getting murdoch on the defendants list and having a case against him but this guy was confident as anything. Should be fun to watch that play through as well.

Here is an article about this state constitutional amendment:
      http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iOLcFQTZZzMh1bIRdmZDq1E573kwD9BJKSJ80

"Neither proposed constitutional amendments has drawn any public opposition."

      This is a complete non-issue.

Except Beck uses it to make the Van Jones-Obama-Al-Qaeda connection. I am sure there's a special place in Hell for Glenn beck.

      From wikipedia:

"During regimented times during the day, the prisoners would have different task to perform everyday. Some of these task included making “nails, barrels, clothing, shoes and boots, carpets, buttons, carpenters’ tools, steam engines and boilers, combs, harnesses, furniture, brooms, clocks, buckets and pails, saddle trees...”. During the year 1840s, the prison began to make production in the silk business by bringing in silk worms and trees."

You know when prisons started putting their prisoners into jobs? About 1820 with the Auburn System. SURPRISE, SURPRISE, this system was founded in non-other than Auburn, NY. Yes, Ny has played a leading role in prison reform throughout history. Unfortunately, the specific reform Beck is railing on was implemented almost two centuries ago. YOUR 189 YEARS TOO LATE BECK!!!! So close yet so far.

Obviously with such reform going through 200 years ago, sending prisoners outside the walls to work is not really a new idea except maybe in New York:

"As of 2005, local jails held or supervised 819,434 individuals. Nine percent of these individuals were in programs such as community service, work release, weekend reporting, electronic monitoring, and other alternative programs"

it's amazing how 3 minutes of Internet research can debunk anything Glenn Beck says.

It really is. The fact that I can prove he is a liar with about five minutes and a computer should tell people what kind of "research" beck puts into his insane arguments. Imagine what we could do if reporting was our profession if we can debunk this crap with a laptop. Beck actually does this for a living and puts zero effort into any of it.

Never mind the internet and research, most of what he says can be debunked as he's saying it just by asking the questions a person with normal critical thinking abilities would ask instinctively.

Of course, Beck is like most propagandists, he's saying exactly what his audience wants to hear, and the last thing they're going to do is question any of it.

It's the same as right wing sites like Human Events or RedState. I love to read their articles, the ones that have alarms and buzzers going off in my head, raising all sorts of questions about the "facts" presented, then move on to the comments from the teabaggers, who don't seem to have any of those questions occur to them.

      Still going after Van Jones.

See White House.. you cant give these bastards an inch. YOu gave them the head of Van Jones and they STILL WONT SHUT UP ABOUT HIM.

It's not about Van Jones, its about President Obama and his skin color. It's time we stopped ignoring the elephant in the room.

You're right, achorn. This is the same thing that was bugging me throughout the campaign, the idea that if they spent a little time explaining the facts about, or distancing themselves from, Rev. Wright or Bill Ayers, they could corral the wingnuts into a sanity zone.

I have to admit, with everything the rightys are wrong about, they have proven themselves dead right about one thing; Fundamentalist, bigoted, conservative religious wackos can not be appeased.

OK, they were talking about "Islamofascist Terrorists", not themselves, but give them credit anyway.

          exactly.

even when you give them what they want, it isnt enough because they want the end of Obama (one way or ... sigh ... the other.)

The election of a black man drove them crazy. That is very evident.

Hey I heard Van Jones and Obama were childhood friends in Kenya. One day when they were work release from the juvenile detention center, they conspired to form a groups called ACORN.

Ah you say they were in juvenile detention for what ? Well I'll tell you what they got caught at. They were caught sending birth announcements to the local papers in Hawaii.

Ah but the plot thickens. As young kids in Kenya, they met George Soros. George heard about thier sending birth announcements to local papers in Hawaii and their group ACORN. So George financed their trip to the United States, and employed them at ACORN.

George noticed that Barack could read from a teleprompter better than anyone he had ever seen before. George had a eureka moment, and told Barack he could run for president and turn the country into socialist, fascist, Nazi country in a heartbeat. Of course George would finance the whole thing.

Hey what does everybody think? Do I have a future in right wing talk radio or what!

Well, RW, I haven't heard this story reported by anybody else. Therefore (using the logic of Fox, wingnut radio, and the people who love them) it must be true !

Has anyone heard of "work-release programs" they have been around awhile; raking leaves, trash-cleanup, fix parking meters,

Or back in WW2, Korea and Vietnam, where offenders were offered the opportunity to serve their country or go to jail, paradoxically to serve with draftees who were threatened with jail if they did not serve.

Does anyone remember Drexel-Burnam, where the culprit geniuses were released to educate the public about their misdoings.

Let's see how this works now, Wall street destroys the economy in order to save it, for themselves, no body goes to jail, they continue to sell bubble producing derivatives without regulation, millions are unemployed, the population is outraged over them rewarding themselves for screwing us, crime and civil disorder are expected to increase in the next year due to the lack of work and disappearing unemployment benefits and now the disappearance of affordable healthcare.

It seems Al Quida recruitment is the least of our worries, they'll be sitting in their cells/caves watching this cr@p on TV.

Hey Becky how about talk about how the Bush Administration passed on capturing Osama Bin Laden when the Taliban negotioated with the outgoing Clinton Administration, but passed off by Bush. NOOO lets not talk about that, but smear Van Jones and link him with Al Qaeda.
