Is there a word that combines "smug" and "smarmy?"

          That's InSannity.

This is not a sincere apology. The dig at the end proves that. The only thing he's sorry about is that ClusterFaux (GOPTV) got caught.

An apology would have been to admit that they deliberately showed the wrong footage to support their story that there were up to 50,000 people at Bachmann's rally, er . . . press conference. This was just an "Oh, crap, we got caught, gotta do something" moment.

BTW, you heard that Crazy Michelle is in trouble for breaking House rules with her little rally, er . . . . press conference, didn't you? I hope it sticks.

So you want me to believe that one of the most powerful organizations that specializes and compiling media footage made an error in the 21st century? That film was strategically spliced and in order to get the film, it had to be taken from an archive of footage. Of course it wasn't a simple mistake.

Yeah, Stewart caught him with his pants down and he is being flippant. However, to all the people who watch him on a regular basis, they'll believe Hannity over Stewart because Stewart is a comedian and not a so-called "journalist" like Hannity. For him, there are no repercussions for lying. Because there are not repercussions, this probably won't be the last time that Hannity pulls a stunt like this.

His viewers won't bother asking how this supposed mistake happened either. I mean, how do you mix two-month old video with three day old video in that kind of environment? What orders came down the line, and from whom, that enabled that kind of "mistake"?

If you look at a side by side, there is a slight magnification of the November 5th edition, which means an editor had to pan and scan the video. It was by intent, not by accident.

I've worked in broadcast production for over 15 years and can say unequivocally that wasn't inadvertent. Aside from the the pan and scan, someone(producer) had to pull the footage. Also they put up the "earlier" graphic, a total CYA move, not something you would do if you thought you were b-rolling from the same day.

Another day, another lie for Hannity.

So his big strike back is to point out that a comedy show has writers? Maybe he needs writers or even some people to think for him. Better yet why doesn't he leave the show and let a smart person do it. He got called out by a comedy show and he is not feeling embarrassed? I'm sure he would have no problem with doing that show while he was naked. As long as he could lie.

So his big strike back is to point out that a comedy show has writers?

I didn't hear it that way, I thought he was going to the Ratings Queen move. "Sure, I'm an idiot, but you're watching me be an idiot! I must be doing something right!"

Of course , his jab is pretty ineffective. Sean was seeing the same clips as the Daily Show writers. The Comedy Central people caught the "mistake", and had to point it out to the highest rated cable "news" channel, and to the guy who uses, as one of his themes over the last year or so, the claim that "journalism is dead".

Azz handed to him, and the big floppy clown shoes put on him. The good news, Sean? Your idiot audience won't be affected, they'll believe it was a mistake, and tune in tomorrow to listen to you criticize actual journalists. Think about today the next time you're whining that the President of the United States doesn't want to appear on your clown show.

InSannity is something less than a competent wordsmith. He gets a new word and just chews it to death - such as "specificity." Always "great specificity," by the way.

          "Embolden" was another.

However, by calling this event an "inadvertant mistake" he makes the distinction between the mistakes ClusterFaux (GOPTV) makes on purpose and those it makes, well, by mistake...

I'm not so sure it really is a comedy show.

The more I think about it, the more I think there is a very serious purpose behind it. Kind of like the Smothers Brothers, back in the day, the comedy is a way to get people to watch and absorb the serious message.

An even better explanation is that Fox holds a very contemptuous view of the American public. In the case of those who, after this smoking gun, still cling to the fiction that Fox News is a legitimate news organization, that view is completely justified. They are as willfully delusional as those die-hard American Communists in the '30's were, after Stalin's starvation campaigns became known.

You will please take note that he said he showed the wrong video, but he did NOT show the right one. I think a lot of people would want to see it. And I think a lot of people are thinking there WAS no video taken at all. Or if they did, the crowds were so puny they couldn't show the video, because people would see how unimpressive the turnout was.

So they found a video that would boost their fantasies.

You'd think these people would get wise that the Internet is going to catch them with their pants down every time. They ought to have learned that in the last election. But all they did was new wrinkles on the same old lies, cheats, smears and propaganda.

I know it's because they have nothing of real substance to offer the public, but still! Saying and doing nothing would get them farther than the lowest-common-denominator tactics that failed the Republicans so royally last November.

They don't seem able to keep still, even when it would be better than any other options they have. They have to be constantly on the offensive, and that's hard to do when you have no ammo.

What still amazes me is that Fox News, Hannity and that gang, are STILL holding their journalism credentials. Isn't there at least SOME ginger left in their canons of ethics?

I think "worms" like this are going to be served a comeuppance a whole lot more in the future. With the Internet, there really is no place they can hide any more.

BTW, what IS the Republicans' posture on keeping the hands of government out of the Internet? I suppose I don't have to ask. I imagine the first sites they'll target are the fact-finding ones, like Politi-Fact. No more "Pants on Fire" - at least not for the Republicans.

Using the ConLogic system of methodical thinking, within one week of this writing, the Hannitatrians will have proof that by watching this clip that two(2) million people where in attendance with Ms. Bachman. How is this determined? Remember the ConLogic system...

      1. 2 million attended the 9/12 meeting.
      2. Tape and Sean indicate the 2 million is correct.
      3. The 2 million is verified by Malkin.
      4. Hannity shows tape of the Bachmann get-together.
      5. Hannity shows footage of both events.
      6. Stewart proves that Hannity lied.
      7. Hannity admits, smuggly, to the ERROR(LIE) on TV.
      8. Hannity shows the same fake tape again.

9-27 Since Hannity showed the 2 to 5 million people it has gone into the Con mind and has been filtered thru this process.

Conclusion, since the tape shows that 2 million instead of 20,000 attended the Bachmann party, it is obvious that at least 10+ million were at the 9/12 Party.

yeah right sean. so i guess there's a bunch of tapes lying around, and you happened to pick up the wrong one. fox is a "news" agency, and hannity's trying to equate this to returning the wrong dvd to the video store. and they just "happened" to play the wrong tape, that just "happened" to have a larger crowd, and that just "happened" to help sean's argument that there were over 20,000 people.

Those tapes are digital recordings which are, most likely, stored on a computer server with a name and a date. No way they "inadvertently" pulled up a 2 month old recording and thought they were running a 3 day old recording.

I have some media and editing background, being a filmmaker myself, and I know it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to make such a mistake "inadvertently," because someone, or more likely, a whole group of people, had to CHOOSE to: 1) locate and review a tape with footage shot a long time ago; 2) cut the old footage and the new footage together in more than one editing point; 3) okay the edit before going to broadcast.

As an aside, I can accept over-the-top, bald-face lying in my images... I'm a filmmaker, dammit! But in the news? Then to lie on top of a lie! For shame...

"How can anyone in their right mind believe that was a mistake?" - Sharpe

I don't think anyone does. This is just another example of Fox News having lost all credibility. Even the far-right defenders won't comment on this. No one with any critical thinking skills takes Fox News serioulsy anymore. They have their very loyal, very vocal, very crazy, very niche market that they play to - and that is it.

This is why it makes so much sense for Obama's White House to conflate the idea of the Fox News venom with his Republican "just say no" adversaries. As long as he succeeds at making independent voters think of Fox News when they think of the Republican party, he has nothing to worry about politically. What is truly amazing, is that it seems as if most of the Republican leadership seems eager to allow Hannity and Beck and Limbaugh to lead them off the cliff. Palin and the tea parties cannot win national elections. Enjoy the wilderness "conservatives"!

Of course Stewart's writers watch Fox News: somebody with a brain has to so they can catch the "inadvertent" on purpose manipulation Fox regularly performs. Once again, proof that reality has nothing to do with the world in which the Republican Party and their media outlet live in.

Noticed that Hannity apologized to Jon Stewart, and not the viewing audience. The guy's so conceited, even when he apologizes, he's doing it through clenched teeth, and not to the people he really should apologize to.

      Hannity, you're schmuck!

Why haven't we seen alread a big uproar from opposition of Hannity on other stations such as MSNBC, NBC, CNN? Because FOX has the goods on THEM and they don't want to take their chances with their ratings are already in the toilet. And I'm sure it's a little more than a 10 second clip of green trees and a bigger crowd.

What in the world are you talking about? Where is your paranoid conspiracy theory leading you to? What are the "good" that you think Fox News has?

There will be no big uproar. There will be some laughs. No one with any level of adult thinking takes Fox News seriously anymore. This is why they are a laughingstock. They play to their insanely partisan niche market that is very vocal and very loyal. That is it. Everyone else has been onto their game for the last two election cycles. They are a joke. And not a good joke.

There is no way this was a simple "mistake". When you edit video footage from an event, you encode what you get off the camera(s) onto a non-linear edit system and shape the piece with what you got.

To ADD file footage requires you dig up the source tapes or hunt specific files down off the video server. It's not like that material is just sitting around and is "oopsy-ed" in.

The same thing happened during the 2004 elections when Karl Rove had a campaign ad edited so that the words "Democrats" and "Rats" were associated with each other. Again they said it was a simple mistake - which is an outright lie! When editing these pieces, you are looking at the same image over and over again for several days. Each item of content MUST be programmed into the piece. The 30-second piece would have been developed over a number of days, pre-assembled on another, and edited together for yet another day. Then there would have been the review in front of numerous parties.

And yet, that "mistake" happened. right...

Hannity is depending upon the ignorance of his viewers with regard to video editing and storage. Most of them probably think that they just walked into the video storage closet and picked out the wrong VHS tape by mistake! LOL!

        Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Claiming he "screwed up," Hannity "apologizes" for airing "incorrect video" of 9-12 protests while discussing Bachmann rally

I heard him on satellite radio apologize for his mistake.

WTF! Is it a start for FOX Snooze are is he just saying this while having his fingers crossed?

He didn't air an "incorrect video," he aired the video he was wanting to use . . . he just hoped nobody noticed it was the wrong one. No apology here, just a CYA. People are filing complaints with the FCC regarding fraudulent broadcasting.

Now Sheer "Am I An Idiot?" InSannity can apologize for his pathetic coverage of the Balloon Boy Hoax.

Personally, I still think his absolute lowpoint (and there are quite a few "stories" to choose from here) was his "interview" with a young man with very serious cancer.

The cancer patient's parents were in trouble because they had stopped conventional treatment (chemeotherapy) and he was not visiting a Mexican clinic. According to this young man the clinic had a very had success rate with a treatment the FDA wouldn't approve in the US because then the pharmaceutical companies wouldn't make any money.

Despite InSannity's frequent defence of that industry, he just went along with the whole sorry story. To the best of my knowledge there was no follow-up - no surprise there, of course...

Hannity "I want to thank you and all of your writers for watching."

This statement is about as incorrect as it can possibly get. Hannity implies that the writers were watching, ostensibly to listen to the information that he presents. I don't think so. I think the writers that Comedy Central were probably watching so they could point out something stupid and inane. Unfortunately, they don't have to wait very long. People are watching you Mr. Hannity because they want to point out the errors and idiotic things that you say or do. If somebody was watching Sean Hannity, it is because they're looking for items that Jon Stewart can put on the Comedy Central daily show. But they probably got a good laugh over Sean Hannity's remark.

Hannity starts up "although it pains me to say this," let's be real here Sean, if it really did pain you, you would have been scrupulous enough not to make that on purpose mistake. But let's go on, since you were caught doing something really stupid, and if as you say it appears to be a problem for you, are you going to put in place procedures to make sure that Fox news never tells any more lies, distorts stories, crops and videos to put the administration in the worst light possible, and puts up the wrong video? I don't think it pained you that much.
