Of course, the repukes think that's more appropriate.
~
More disrespectful than even YOU.
Cheney in 2012... right-on!
I guess the conservatives need to look to someone they know that can keep hope alive that America can go back to the sadism under the recent former management.
Have you ever been to Japan?
The fact that Obama bowed shows that he's cognizant of other cultures.
The fact that Cheney did not shows he's ignorant to them.
Heads of state have historically conformed to the traditions of the countries they visit.
Still I have to pity their lack character, it must be very disappointing for them to see their own reflections and know that they are empty people.
And Bush also BOWED!
Oh is it hot in here, or is just...that?
Still a fabrication, oldmaninblackforest?
Bear in mind that this supposedly devastating foreign relations disaster isn't even what's being discussed here. The theme here is whether it's appropriate for him to bow at all. Would you have a problem with Obama bowing if he hadn't shook his hand while doing it?
Yes, physical contact is usually not the custom for a bow. Obama did not fully do the right procedure for the bow, but if he hadn't shaken hands with the Emperor (yes, the EMPEROR, not the Prime Minister, you jackass), you righties would be up in arms that he completely prostrated himself before the Emperor.
As for the "no-contact" rule? I'd like you to explain why it's okay, then, for Cheney to both shake hands with the Emperor and NOT bow. That's full skin-on-skin contact and no bow.
Cheney - 0 for 2 with 2 K's.
You? Struck out looking.
Absurd!
But it happened with Bush.
Also, are we talking Dick Cheney 2012, or Liz Cheney 2012?
Haliburton, Xe ( Blackwater), Lockheed Martin, etc.
Dick Cheney didn't bow because he's a pompous git.
President Obama bowed, because he is cultured enough to realize this is the normative greeting in Japanese society.
Did President Obama drop to his knees and swear undying fealty to the Japanese Emperor? Hardly. Does the emperor rule Japan? No. Japan has a Prime Minister that holds almost all the power of leadership.
Japan - NO TOUCHING during the bow for all you cultural idiots...
Not only that look how pathetic he looks.
The MP is smiling, what the Japanese culture does when embarrassed...
This is a much different situation than an average person meeting a Japanese official.
By the way, here's President Bush holding hands with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. And yes, he did. And no, it's not a fake.
It's also the universal sign of happiness. Try again, Schmuck-san.
FAIL!
When dealing with non-Japanese people, many Japanese will shake hands. Since many non-Japanese are familiar with the custom of bowing, this often leads to a combined bow and handshake which can be quite complicated to execute. Bows may be combined with handshakes or performed before or after shaking hands.
This will go on non-stop - it doesn't matter that the economy is starting to turn around, that we are once agian being accepted as an international leader based on policy instead of military action, no matter what the president does the Conservative Movement will try to discredit him. Look at what they are doing to the moderates in their own party - nothing short of ethnic cleansing any way you look at it.
Their goal is to create a fringe arm of the Republican Party that is so indoctrinated with their conspiracy ideology that anything anyone says inflames them to the point of violence.
Sad, but very true.
A panel of retards!(Except the woman in red) They must not know customs around the world.
Also WTF was Ditz Chaney talking about "Chaney 2012". This is someone who knows nothing about politics, and only got her job position in the government only because of her father. LOL! That clip was funny as s*!t!
thankyou honorable sir for permission to put cranium in tiny pebbles. We learn so much from your superior knowledge and will bow far away from your behind as not to disturb pilonidal cyst.
Usually, the bow and handshake are seen as mutually exclusive. Greeting someone through bowing is considered the normal Japanese way of greeting someone respectfully between citizens. There is, however, some form of handshake in the culture--usually, this is more of a "limp fish" handshake and is not meant to be firm.
The key to a handshake in Japan? From Jon P. Alston's Japanese Business Culture and Practices: A Guide to Twenty-First Century Japanese Business:
Here's something to think about. When Japanese receive an honor from someone, the bow DOES get accompanied by a handshake. I've seen it and done it myself when I was honored by my supervisor in Japan during a ceremony before I left my job there.
Keep trying.
There were a few issues where Bush did not take the normal conservative line (by some reasoning) such as giving aide to Africa, increasing the size of government and the massive financial bailouts at the end of his term.
I cannot see any reason for Bush to give aide to Africa unless it was a cynical effort to appeal to suburban housewives more, but maybe Bush did it out of the kindness of his heart.
As for the expansion of government, it was mostly in the name of Homeland Security, which is something conservatives have almost always wanted - an agency to better keep track of the citizens.
There really was not any way to avoid the financial bailouts using conservative ideologically approved methods (which really means not doing anything).
And cheney for President? He's ineligible. He served two terms already.
He had mental problems, he killed a bunch of people. the Army knew about those mental problems, they let him keep serving anyway. No terrorism. Just because he is a Muslim does not make him a terrorist, no matter how badly those on the Right wish it were so.
Bush spent 40% of his eight years in office on vacation. President Obama is not even close to that record.
"President Obama met Wednesday with his national security team, the latest in his series of meetings on the best way forward in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
This is the eighth in the series of meetings Mr. Obama has had on drafting a new strategy in the turbulent region – a decision that includes how many additional U.S. troops to send to Afghanistan. "
Another EPIC FAIL, blackforestcake . . .
Much more respect than Cheney gave him two years ago.
.
*stop acting stupid
I mean, other than the fact that he's on tv pretty much EVERY Sunday?
I KNOW why Mitch McConnell was on- he had to remind us that Bush "kept us safe from terrorism" for almost seven and a half years, just in case any of us had allowed ourselves to "forget" it. But why was Giuliani on?
And while we're at it, why was the guy who was Speaker of the House for a few years back in the nineties on tv?
Crazy from the left and right at the same time would be sign of some serious mental problems. TLW hasn't shown such behavior.
53 percent of the voters on Nov. 4, 2008
At least Obama didn't become president with the help of the Supreme Court.
53% of the voters moonbats? Doubtful, doubtful that you know the term's meaning either.
Unless your maintaining two identities on site and got confused as to which one you are for your post.
The Daily Mirror sure did:
That is, I'll think, "Cheney sentenced in 2012" . . .
I know, I know..I'll get my coat..:)
