AP fact-checks Palin's Going Rogue

PALIN: Says Ronald Reagan faced an even worse recession than the one that appears to be ending now, and "showed us how to get out of one. If you want real job growth, cut capital gains taxes and slay the death tax once and for all."

THE FACTS: The estate tax, which some call the death tax, was not repealed under Reagan and capital gains taxes are lower now than when Reagan was president.

Economists overwhelmingly say the current recession is far worse. The recession Reagan faced lasted for 16 months; this one is in its 23rd month. The recession of the early 1980s did not have a financial meltdown. Unemployment peaked at 10.8 percent, worse than the October 2009 high of 10.2 percent, but the jobless rate is still expected to climb.

Ronnie was president from 1981 to 1989. During that time Simple Sarah:

. played basketball and then graduated from high school (1982)
. bumbled through a semester at Hawaii Pacific U. (1982)
. bumbled through a year at North Idaho College (1983)
. bumbled through another year at the University of Idaho (1984)
      . finished 3rd in a beauty pageant (1984)
      . bumbled through a semester at Matanuska-Susitna College (1985)
. bumbled through another 3 semesters before graduating at U of I (1987)
. screwed around playing sports caster for a few months (1987)
      . eloped (1988)

Boy, she really lived that ronnie recession first hand, huh?

Excuse me, but she didn't graduate from the U of I. She graduated from the University of Idaho. The U of I is in Illinois, Urbana-Champagne, and they don't accept halfwits like Sarah Palin.

Well, it is true that he made a recession that was nearly as bad. His came after nearly three years of the Reagan economic plan - 1983. But, then, that was "all Carter's fault".

Nine months into this presidency and everything is President Obama's fault.

How the hell would she know? It appears more likely that Sarah Palin is simply repeating lines fed to her by someone else. I doubt verrrrrry seriously if Sarah Palin has any grasp of the economy any more sophisticated than a high school level.

These are the parts that Rush and the other folks on Fox and hate talk radio don't want people to remember. This recession has been going on for almost 2 years . . . since December 2007 . . . Mr. Bush was still president and the Democratic majority in Congress had no effect . . . anything they tried to pass was either blocked or vetoed.

Good lord, who writes the stuff here and what kind of an economic comparison is that to simply say this recession is lasting longer and that our unemployment rate is 'expected' to go higher than the 10.8% peak of the Reagan term? Nothing about inflation then or interest rates up in the high teens, and double digit mortgage rates then versus low 5% now.

Really bad way to combat someone else's misinformation with your own.

And that had to do with my post how? The recession HAS been going on for almost 2 years . . . the unemployment rates started rising sharply in December 2007.

Act like a jacka** on another post.

You forgot two important things Hoosier,

          1) This recession was driven in large part by a full-blown financial meltdown caused by greed, conservatism and deregulation. In other words, runaway capitalism / conservatism completely screwed the American people out of everything. Red ink Ronnie had no such disaster to deal with.

          2) Second, there has been a tremendous concentration of wealth in the hands of the wealthy since Saint Ronnie came to power. This destruction of the middle class since Reagan has laid the ground work for a far more severe recession this time.
