So let's get the information out there. It's just a recommendation, it's not an edict or requirement. Plus everyone seems to forget that high-risk patients are exempt from this recommendation.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends mammograms for women 50 to 74 every other year. It says women and their doctors should discuss the benefits and risks of mammograms beginning at age 40. The findings don't apply to high-risk patients, such as those with a family history of breast cancer.

Their recommendations are based on statistical studies and science... so it's easy to understand why the right wing mistrusts it.

Are these new guidlines coming under order of President Obama or Speaker Pelosi? I doubt it. In fact I'd be surprised if they weren't aleady in the works before Obama took office. What I read about this is that cancer is detected in about 2-3% of the women under 50 and that a similar percentage develops cancer from the increased exposure to radiation so the benefits are questionable. I suspect most of those that are detected prior to age 50 are in at risk groups and the guidlines do not suggest discontinuing exams for those women.

Yea the dems pretend to care about getting everyone healthcare they can afford but the republicans blatantly tell everyone they dont give a crap.

The Society of OBGYN is NOT THE GOVERNMENT! Its doctors - all doctors and healthcare professionals. This isn't pelosi or obama here.

Oh, please . . . the task force made recommendations which included the admonition that the patients discuss the issue with their doctors. I thought the big mantra for the anti-health care reform folks was that nobody should get between the patient and their doctor. This recommendation states clearly that this is an issue to be discussed by the patient with her doctor.

This is really shameless disgusting politicizing of a guideline that should be determined by doctors, not political hacks

It is my understanding that the task force members serve for five years. The current members term is up at the end of this year 2009. So...

On Beck, Horowitz calls for "die-ins" over mammogram guidelines, because "it's the Democrats killing them"

Why is this smear being pedaled around? Many news networks stated that the mammogram recomendations was just that a recommend from an independent doctors study. Not a recommendation by government politcians. The BBC is one of the networks that said this and that is not even a U.S. news network.
