That was Gray who asked that question? I thought it was that "Stu" guy?

Anyway, he was implying that the SEALS had acted on their own somehow when they shot the pirates, NOT that liberals or some other group was trying to punish the SEALS for some reason.

I was under the impression that the SEALS had the go-ahead to shoot the pirates.

The implication regardless was that the charges was some form of payback for the shooting of the pirates.

Whatever the reason for the charges, I think it's ridiculous. I mean, they give the guy a fat lip and end up court martialed?

The careers of our military men, men with families, are being put in jeopardy for a bloodied lip.

Maybe because some of us still believe that our military has integrity and that any kind of prisoner abuse is criminal.

They punched him in the lip. They punched a man responsible for STRINGING OUR MEN UP AND BURNING THEIR BODIES in the lip.

kdork: I sympathize with your position and am not going to particularly bemoan a terrorist's fat lip. However...

                  1) There are rules for handling prisoners. If the SEALs broke those rules, there should be some sanction for it. The rule of law is why we are better than alleged thugs like Abedm.

                  2) My understanding of the story was that the men were originally to draw non-judicial punishment (which would likely have been mild), but the men themselves demanded that they draw a court martial.

They ruined their own careers when they lied to their commanders.

They're being charged with dereliction of duty, making a false official statement and impeding an investigation.

        He wasn't blaming the president.

He was suggesting that the SEALS acted improperly and alone in killing the pirates, and therefore subjected themselves to a legal backlash.

What the heck are you talking about?

Did you even LISTEN to the tape?

It's clear that the co-host was bringing Obama in.

What was he backing this suggestion up with? It was a secret mission. Should someone be charged with divulging the details of a secret mission?

Or is this guy just pulling things out of his ass?

Doesn't this idiot realize that if the SEALS violated the Rules of Engagement, that they "retribution" would be that the individuals who violated the ROE would be punished?

It sounds like Gray was pulling the "repurcussions" question out of thin air. Support it or shut up, Gray.

The ex-Seal caller stated forthrightly that SEALs should never lie to their commanders. I wonder how he would react to the Beck show's recent suggestion that military personel should murder prisoners and then lie about it after.

Navy SEALs would have never pulled the trigger on those pirates without authorization, so mute point. Also they chose court martial over non-judicial punishment, to make a political statement.

      Neal Puckett to Fox News
“I don’t know how they’re going to bring this detainee to the United States and give us our constitutional right to confrontation in the courtroom,” Puckett said. “But again, we have terrorists getting their constitutional rights in New York City, but I suspect that they’re going to deny these SEALs their right to confrontation in a military courtroom in Virginia.”
