I love how Fox tauts this crime of computer hacking and then complaining about how young people just automatically believe what they hear on the news telling them that there is climate change. Well, last night, I watched a story on the NewsHour about the eight year long drought in Australia and how they are pretty sure this is permanent climate change. They have had terrible firestorms and a dust storm that obscured the Sidney Harbor Bridge! They are worried about loosing a food industry that is larger than California's! And then there was Bill Moyer's interview with Jane Goodall on Friday, wheere she stood with weeping Inuits watching the melting and cracking of polar ice. There has been a 70% retreat of glaciers in Europe and North America, how much proof do these idiots need?

I dont think any amount of proof will convince them - we can have massive floodings throughout NYC and large scale displacement of entire populations and fox news would still be denying global warming the next day.

I don't think they care. They believe nothing major will happen anytime soon anyway. Why change their whole way of thinking and living for something that is 100's of years in the future?!

Epikk, so there has never been a drought in Australia before? Climate Change will always happen, but this is not man made, and we the general public should not have to pay a tax or trade a carbon based on natural occurrence.
That would be like having to pay a tax each time it rains, or each day the sun shines, these things will always happen no matter what man does. The only idiots around here are those that think that climate can be controlled by man.
If it makes you feel better you can send me a $1,000 bucks and I will plant a trees on my land in your name.

political agenda FOR WHO?! I want to know how the entire democratic party and all of the scientists in the world are ripping off all the conservatives in the world? And I want to know what the motive is, how such broad consensus among scientists was achieved when scientists are often the MOST critical people. I want to know what in the world would be the motive of the majority of the scientific community that they would risk their reputations and entire professional careers accumulating massive evidence to try to fool the rest of the world... That must be some motive for all those scientists out there - i cant wait to hear it!

Finally, why would anyone be against finding alternative energy resources? what do we stand to lose by curbing pollution some? Cleaning air and water? A better environment for our children and our children's children. There may be a dispute about global warming but there is no dispute that pollution is bad for the environment in general. And you do realize that the oil will run dry in THE ENTIRE WORLD within this century. There is a reason why fossil fuel is called a non-renewable resource - it literally take centuries to form and we are using it up at a rapid pace. Why not prepare for that day when oil will no longer fuel our transportation or industries? Why not start developing and implementing alternative energy resources now so that we don't have a catastrophe when oil prices skyrocket due to limited supplies? Why continue to rely on foreign nations to proovide the fuel for our entire economy? Why not find and use cheaper and cleaner methods? This isnt just about global warming - this is about cleaning up our air and water, making our only planet cleaner and preparing for the inevitable.

The motive for deception in science is that no scientist wants his work disproven. It starts with a little tweak here and there. The deception then gets so large it becomes impossible to stop. The "concensus" you speak of was based on questionable data from a reliable source. Then your repution is at stake so you keep up the charade. Then the politicians get ahold of it and think " this is a good way to keep the masses poor". With poor constituates come more ways to control them. Funding is thrown only to scientists that agree. A concensus of scientists that have no other choice than to prostitute themselves to feed their families is created.

All conservatives I know aren't for destroying the earth. They are for a more fiscally responsible switch to alternative sources. Science hasn't found a way to produce solar energy at night. Energy storage (batteries) are substandard for the job we want them to do. The wind doesn't blow all of the time. If we would take half of the money we currently spend on junk climate science and put it into developing alternative sources then we would have half of it to put towards this enormous deficit. The amount of money we spend just to scare people into doing the right thing is obscene. We don't need scientists making up fairytales and shoving them down our throats as facts, to make the world a better place.

We don't need the expensive scams that pop up when people buy things that make them feel like they are doing something when it is actually worse. Fear and self-loathing are extremely powerful emotions. When you allow politicians that much power over your emotions then you might as well practice bowing to kings.

The US should be so proud of itself as being the only country with enough morons that we couldn't even ratify the kyoto protocol which was accepted by every single developed and developing nation in the world. We have subcumb to having individual states and citiies ratify it which includes the entire northeast and over 20 percent of the US population not including the major city populations or cali which has passed a law to address the issue. Im actually embarrassed that the US is not only not taking the lead on such a critical issue but we are actually dragging our feet. We should all be embarrassed

You are also wrong on australia - that weakened cap and trade. I dont think the concept has been entirely abandoned. And it was mainly because of australia's high baseline which was based on a single yr in 1990 in which australia had particularly high levels. Thus, the laws were altered.

                    snoopy -

Looks like gs-425 has gone off the rails.

"pop?" What the heck is that?

Totally frustrated that the denial arguments are falling flat.

They really thought they had something there with the CRU "scandal."

But, they still need that conspiracy thing to make their arguments work. They just can't define what that conspiracy is, can't they?

So, they just resort to nonsense - "pop."

I remember the first time I crossed swords with gs-425. I did a point-by-point rebuttal of all he'd said, and his response to me was--get this--"progection." It wouldn't have made any sense even if he was bright enough to spell it correctly. The guy is a dimbulb even by neocon standards.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but I have a sick sense of humor, and recently registered at RedState. This morning, there was an item about a liberal bloggers criticism of Dick Cheney's Obama smearing media tour. Predictably, RedState was crying "Censorship" and accusing the left of trying to silence Cheney.

                  I mentioned that the RedState writer was being disingenuous, and pointed out specifically where. When I checked back, there was a response;

"He's not being disingenuous, you are !"

That was it, just the "Nah ah, you suck !" reflex.

It was followed by another reply, from a wingnut who "loved the smell of burning troll in the morning".

They actually think this is substance.

Makes me appreciate this site even more, where the right wingers are encouraged to post and help to discredit themselves. Obviously, RedState is afraid of disgreement. I am really enjoying the fact that I was banned for pointing out that their cries of censorship (a liberal blogger giving his opinion on Cheney's media attention) were BS.

                  Here are some helpful tips, Eddiebear (and any other wingnuts who are open to self-improvement), completely free of charge;

***Try to indicate who you're replying to by including their screen name, especially on longer threads with lots of nested replies.

**Try to show what you're replying to, maybe with a short quote or reference to the comment you're addressing.

** Form a complete sentence. "like what Jon Stewart did last night?" is just sort of a fragment of a thought. What did Jon Stewart do ? What is it like? Why ?

'Or, are you going to demand CNN "Fact Check" him like they did SNL? ' doesn't seem to have anything to do with anything here, and it's not clear what the choice you're implying with the "or" is.

                  Glad to help.

Sharpe, do you really not understand this?

Of course the morning shows see the world getting warmer. They're going into the studio in the chilly morning hours, and seeing noticeable warming when they leave at noon.

The afternoon people are coming in when the Sun (or "God's Space heater") is high in the sky, and leaving in the evening, as the moon (Nighttime Sun) comes to work, and the world cools off.

The Fox Scienticians discovered these trends quite a while ago.

There is a growing war on science and a great deal of "myth-busters" or "junk science" folks out there trying to cater to the hopes of those who wish science wasn't true.

Darwin and Evolution still rages today, to the bafflement of most scientist and educators, but of course you'll be able to find those out there who are scientist who will cater to the Christian Right and say evolution is false.

Current topic is Climate Change, which every scientist through out the world has peer reviewed and validate. Those who deny it are just those who stand to lose something if there are policy changes. In this case, it's the oil and power companies, which pay a lot to fuel the "junk science" believers.

Stem Cell research has become politicized for religious reasons... PETA attacks scientific progress.

Who knows what's next... DNA is a myth? Gravity is just a theory.

PETA opposes using animals in test labs. While I would agree that such testing may have been too extensive at times, and that sometimes tests are done that are either unnecessary or even cruel, I can't stand with those who want to oppose all of it. When I give medicine to my daughter, I would much rather know that it is safe, due to controlled laboratory tests on real guinea pigs, then use her as the guinea pig.

Not really, though most other nations' media don't give it the heavy play of the US. I read other blogs and some deal with ID/Evolution as part of their function, and have read of many non-US events and 'woo-artists' who push for anti-science. IIRC, there was one Muslim who wrote a lengthy 'disproof' of Evolution, based on the Qu'ran.
