Interesting, because Beck just used the same termonology in his show today, when he said it looked like Obama went and talked to the enemy camp or something to that effect. Im sure MM will report about that shortly too.

Interesting you'd choose this site to make that sort of claim, teabagger, but at least you're willing to admit that Chris Matthews is a leftist news/opinion commentator.

Sure, if you define "left" as "anyone who doesn't wear a white sheet with a pointed hood." Matthews hated the Clintons before they were even sent to the White House, supported Bush long after the rest of the country had lost its patience with him (right up until the right-wing started pretending Bush wasn't the right-wing conservative he really is), never pointed out in public that the invasion of Iraq was a stupid idea based on lies, never points out in public that single-payer healthcare is the most fiscally prudent plan of all (and that Americans pay more in taxes to maintain our commercial health care system than the British do for fully socialized system), and did all of the other things that are required in the right-wing playbook except call himself a Republican. Matthews always makes sure his show is consistent with right-wing talking points, never says a single word to promote a liberal idea or policy, and even has Ann Coulter on his TV show. No actual liberal would do that. Matthews appears to be to the left of Tom DeLay and Jeff Sessions, but they are so far right that this is even true of most rank-and-file Republicans - and that still puts him in the right-wing of the real political range. The American mass media, like the Democratic leadership, is to the right of most of the country. Not only are they not on "the left", they aren't even on the left side of the mainstream.

I still don't much care for Matthews, but it was a classy apology - credit where credit is due.

"...but it was a classy apology..." That is why I like Matthews. Sometimes, I roll my eyes when he says something, and once got angry, (he was brutal about Hilary Clinton - way over the top) but he is not a mean man. When his oversteps he has the integrity to admit it, and apoligize.

Any defense of Matthews is apt to draw thumbs down from more than a few liberals, not just our lurking RNC stooges who are well trained in the art of the contrary.

That's right, because apologies are cheap-- people make TV shows out of them. So unless Tweetie changes his thinking (never happen)he'll always be full of it.

Well, guess this ol' lib must be getting a soft spot in his heart, because I can almost put chris in the same category of Paul Harvey - I may not agree, but for the most part, I like the way he delivers in a non-combative way. Makes me want to at least think twice...

Paul Harvey could tell a good story, but he wasn't so good with facts. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a liar, but he had a weird bent for a certain viewpoint, and was a little lax with important details.

But at least he had enough sense to know he didn't have enough to say everyday to take up an entire hour of our time. These "pundits" and teevee personalities like Chrissy have too damn much time to speak and not near enough of worth to say imo.

If they had only 15 minutes to speak, they may actually use it alot more wisely....;-)

They invented this thing J. It's a little black box with an On/Off switch. Some of the newer models actually have a Vol +/- switch and a Chan +/-...

I find this very useful when Tweety and Putty Tat come on. :)

I do agree with your assessment though in all honesty.

I disagree. Mathews either can control his mouth, or cannot, and explain where the words sprang from. Especially if similar words were making rounds in RW circles recently.
If he is an idiot that listens to Limbaugh and uncontrollably uses his words, he should admit it. If he arrived at the words himself, he should explain.
A sorry (however sincerely rendered) does not cut it, for me.

Matthews does have integrity. He just can be a little bit strident and obnoxious in playing the devil's advocate and in his attempts to appear "objective." I actually have a decent amount of respect for this guy since he comes from a pretty conservative family yet is for the most part moderate to liberal in his views. He also has a near encyclopedic knowledge of American history and politics. Better the devil you know I always say . . .

An on air apology that appeared whole heartedly sincere...

Kudos to Matthews for his apology... something Fox never does, for whenever they do apologize they seem angry that they have to do it.

At least he did apologize unlike Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, et al. But maybe he should think a little before he speaks. It's not the first time he's had to apologize.

That's what makes us lefties so different (besides intelligence). We can think for ourselves and admit when we are wrong.

Matthews is still on my $heit list for now though. As of late he has shown he doesn't take himself too seriously so there is still hope.

I'm sure he received thousands of e-mails. He got one from me.

Thanks to this great website and others.

But, really, it would be good to know how many times these guys have to apologize for things they say about conservatives? Are liberals the only party that is treated like crap, and then they "apologize"?

He also expressed regret LAST NIGHT only an hour or so after making the actual comment. I dont think he only regretted it after getting massive numbers of emails. I think his comments were a knee jerk reaction to some of the faces in the crowd that he made only minutes after the speech ended and after having time to think it through, realized he was way over the top by saying enemy camp. Plus, as he was saying enemy camp, obama was going around taking pictures with troops and shaking hands with every one so his words seemed pretty contradictory to the scene on the other side of the screen which may have prompted him to realize how stupid they sounded. Either way, chris' apology is far, far more sincere than something on fox like beck "owning up" to flip flopping on the TARP - he says he did so b/c he realized no one was being honest when he really flip flopped b/c he wanted to stay with the libertarian view point while still trying to support whatever bush wanted.

Very true - he is not sorry for the mess he got as a result of his words. He apologized for actually saying the words - all too often, we get Im sorry for the reaction it caused like bush when he didn't apologize for comments but said he was sorry for the comments reaching the public.

i thought chris's apology was good. i think he got caught up in all of the wrangling, over the years, about our troops being more "conservative". i accept his apology, because he is a "free" thinking person, and sometimes he thinks out loud. aside from his knee jerk conservatism, i like chris matthews for being a thinker.

Holy Crap! I am not a huge matthews fan but good for him. I guess im so used to the "im sorry IF i offended anyone" or " im sorry if anyone morons took what i said the wrong way" or the "the liberal media is at it again taking things out of context" type applogies that this one took me by surpise. Fake appologies help people realize how much of an arrogant ass you are (listening oriely?) and real appologies let people know that you actualy have some level of integrity.

Maybe he was just following Limbaughs' suggestion to his wackos' that at West Piont, they detain Obama, hopefully.
And the other Limbaugh spew that the enemy camp is the White House.

Just waiting for all those letter writers to bombard Limpy and hear his apology. Although he is laughable, I believe that Limbaugh will apologize or die before the next Republican President circa 2032.
