Those elderly people he speaks of, who remember Reaganism, are senile old coots who in fact don't remember what it was like in the eighties.

At a large family gathering, an elderly aunt mentioned that many people got wealthy under Reagan's presidency. I asked her if she knew anyone in our family or any of her neighbors who became wealthy. Her response was "NO".

I love it when the family gets together and talk politics. Reminds me of August this year, on the day of mother/father's 50th Wedding Anniversary, with my sainted mother witnessing, when me and the old man got into a knockdown drag-out over the arrest of Henry Louis Gates (no details, I can stomach to relive). Before the argument got heated, I pointedly told him I didn't want to discuss it because we were on opposite sides of the fence. He then came back with one of his favorite asides (I've heard for years), "that's a liberal, always walking away from an argument. Good times (btw, we're fine and I had to hear from my four siblings all day on how I had to "leave Dad alone." I came back with "the old man can still dish it, so when he leaves me alone, I shall do the same."

Thanks for letting me get that off the soul.

Happy to let you vent. Pretty much everyone in my family is left-of-center politically so I don't get to tell stories like that. The biggest political dust-up we had was in 2000 when half the family voted Gore and the other half went for Nader.

That's cause they didn't work hard enough. Everybody knows that rich people work harder than the rest of us lazy f**ks and deserve every penny they have. If we all worked that hard we'd all be rich like Paris Hilton.

Rush is stereotyping the elderly as having poor memories of what actually happened during the Reagan era.

Why does Rush hate the elderly?

Which part was successful - that part where he made it possible for large corporations to buy out smaller ones, take the part they want and then sell off or shut down whatever they didn't want? Yeah, having lived through that with E-Systems I'd say it was great fun...

      Speaking of memories...

I saw one of the best political posters I've ever seen about a year after Ronnie was elected Governor of our state. It was at a swap meet at the La Mirada drive-in theatre.

It showed him smiling, in full, all-white Hollywood Cowboy getup, complete with shiny six-guns.

      The caption?

      Thanks for the votes, SUCKERS!

Weren't there a couple of recessions under Reagan? Not saying that makes his administration unsuccessful but by what criteria was Blessed St. Ronnie's first year in office so much more successful than Obama's?

      "Success of Reagan ? "

Like tripling the national debt ?

Like cutting taxes on the upper incomes and raising taxes on the lower incomes, ultimately raising taxes 7 times ?

Like doubling the social security wihtholding and taxing the benefits ?

Like selling arms to Iran then lying about it ?

Like having 32 people from his administration convicted of crimes

      Like his HUD scandal ?

Like checking with his astrologer ?

      speaking of memories

I remember the Reagan years very well - the years of Union Busting.
Just ask anybody that was in the flight controllers union or any union for that matter. Ronald Reagan did more to lower wages for average americans than any of our Presidents.

He also was a big advocate of an unrestricted free market system and did his very best to let big business run our country. I can still remember one speech in particular when he was beginning to show signs of dementia and one of his financial advisors had to keep reminding him to stay focused and hurry.

A lot of people, myself included, believe Mr. Reagans condition allowed those in his administration to manipulate him as they seen fit. He truly was not running the country in the end.

Then, as now, the tax breaks for the wealthy did not work. Trickle down is nothing but a bunch of crap. It only allows the rich to get richer. Then, as now, we face having to raise taxes of lower income people to pay for the loss of tax revenue to the wealthy. Unrestricted free market systems only allow the greedy to take advantage of the less fortunate of our society.

I remember my mother, a school teacher, having to work a second job to keep the roof over our heads. Thanks for the crappy 1980s economy, Ronnie!
