Even if that's the case where people paid slightly higher taxes before the benefits started then it answers the conservative question of "How will we pay for this". It should be looked at the same way as starting a business. Before you can open your doors, you need some start up capital to begin with. You think that they would understand this fact seeing as how they all claim to be in touch with the "small business owner". And since just blindly printing money is out of the question, the government must raise revenue the only way it knows how. By proposing a tax increase. But some people just find those words to be a horrible nightmare. For example, in my city there was a vote to increase local sales taxes by $0.005 to help fund public transportation. The measure would have brought in millions. But I live in a very conservative part of the country and it was defeated. As a result many areas were left without public transportation for a while. The city responded by redirecting funds for building projects to address the transportation issue. And do you know why this happened? Many of the public personalities that opposed Obama in the general election (which was when this issue was being voted on as well) used the tax increase proposed by the city as a way of associating Obama with an oppressive government that will tax you into oblivion. Now the issue is coming up again on the ballot. I wonder if people are going to vote the same way again. I hope not. There were alot of people who found it difficult to get to work and everywhere else due to the closure of bus stops and train stations.

Thing is Pags, white guys probably never go to jail for not paying their taxes, and even if you did get sent to jail do you know what you'd have to do when you got out? Yes, make restitution for the taxes you didn't pay. One way, or another, the IRS will make you pay.

Thats true. Ask Wesley Snipes. Truth is everyone pays a tax that they do not like, but it is apart of being a citizen of this country. If Pags do not like paying taxes he should move to Somalia.

Yep. Prison time is not an alternative to paying your taxes. It's a punishment for not paying them.

      Send him to jail?

Not on our dime. Why should we be forced to feed and shelter one more right wing dirtbag?

I suggest he go straight to the Death Panel.

Does that mean we should stop paying taxes for wars we don't support? Or if our state's representative is a republican? Or, for those eight years that Bush was president? Logic check...

Agreed. I vote that Troglodytes like Joe should pay an Iraq War tax. I'm sure he wouldn't object, since he probably supported Bush.

      1. My understanding is that the taxes don't even start for a few years, and so it's not 4 years before anyone gets a benefit.

      2. There are several benefits that start right away.

      3. With Social Security, there was quite a bit of time when everyone paid in and only a few people got very minimal benefits right away - there were start up costs.

      4. It's a good thing that the Dems made this a deficit neutral plan, and the only way to do it is to tax some people and groups for a short while before benefits start. This is a good thing, not a thing to harp about.

Watching the Regressive Senators keep harping about the unconstitutionality of the HC bill...anythiong to delay delay delay.

They sound like whinners and basically liars.

      Waiting for the 60-40.

Orrin Hatch thinks we should wait a little longer..what a jokester.
