You would think this would be one issue that couldn't be politicized. I was praying that I could go one day without someone trying to make a political issue out of the deaths of thousands and the near total destruction of an entire city.

Well once again its time to throw more money at a country that will steal or waste most of the donations. The United States gave over 1 buillion dollars to Haiti in the last 4 years with most of it being stolen or wasted. Need proof of the waste and corruption: www.dominicantoday.com/dr/poverty/2008/3/9/27270/Tons-of-food-aid-rotting-in-Haiti-ports
Let me get this straight we gave over 1buillion in aid to this country and its still this primative and delapidated.
When will we come up with an actual plan that helps the people to be self sufficient and not just leave them in tin shacks holding out thier hand for U.N. aid scraps. When will we say to a country that steals/wastes most of the money given- "NO MORE MONEY UNTILL YOU GET RID OF THE CORRUPT GOVERNMENT. PERIOD, NO MONEY." We just give money, say "dont steal" then give them more. WE NEVER STOP GIVING, and the people NEVER STOP SUFFERING.
Rush was an idiot for saying the truth (yes it is the truth: Anyone telling me 'a politician wont use this to garner good will' is not in touch with reality. If McCain was the president he would use it in future situations.) Rush was an idiot for making political points during a tragedy.

Rush Limp Boy almost crossed the River of Hades with his comments about Haiti. Limpdick's Hate must please his master Satan. I wonder if he crossed the border when he visited the DR and he was stopped by US Customs with bottles of viagra and a suitcase full condoms. I wonder his heart attack was cause by an overdose of of viagra or possibly hillbily heroin. If he back on narcotics, would that be a violation of his probation?

I am really tired of hearing Rush Limbaugh, running his mouth. If the people in this country spent less time critizing every move our president makes, stepped back and took a look at the big picture and stop pointing fingers, we might just get some where. Good Old FORMER VICE President Dick and rush Limbaught, let me ask a few questions, since the new president has been in office, the economy is on the rebound, SLOWLY yes, and yes jobs are not there yet, but if anyone listens to what our current president says he stated, Jobs would be the last thing to improve. He didn't make any promises, and has admitted to MISTAKES HE HAS MADE!!! I just wish as a country elephants and donkeys could just work things out and do WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR COUNTRY AND STOP THE BICKERING, FINGER POITINTING, NAME CALLING GAMES, AND MAKE AMERICA WHAT IT USE TO BE.
        VERY FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY PERSON,

P.S. RUSH LIMBAUGH, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU STILL HAVE A RADIO SHOW, YOU SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE AIR. YOU ARE A SELF CENTERED AND RUDE!!!!!

But for a numb-skull racist like Rush, never expect him to lay aside his innate racism. It is the underpinning of his silly attempt to destroy Obama. It is the one thing that you can count on with Rush. He has been, he is and he always will be a racist. And he is sizzling that we have a black President. But just let him prattle. Those who listen to him and are impressed by his drivel are unchangeable and those who have even a bit of ability to think for themselves will ignore whatever the court jester says anyway. Let the poor thing just prattle on.

He is such a racist it sickens me. All he's about is black this and negro that. Oh, and don't leave out the Mexicans....he acts like illegal aliens don't deserve rights. They have rights to you know. You are right he hates Obama because he's a light skinned black man....and if he was darker he'd hate him even more. He probably got a sheet for Christmas with his name embroidered on it just so he wouldn't get it mixed up with his other racist buddies like Beck and O'reilly. Way to go Mari2.

Love your comments. What is really disgraceful is the fact that he is getting paid millions of dollars yearly to spout his stupid, narrow-minded, sick viewpoint on whatever doesn't directly affect him. If he knew anything about Meals on Wheels, he'd know what a wonderful service this for so many of our elderly shut ins.Disparaging our beautiful service men and women is shameful. Did Rush serve our country? What charities does he support?

It was not a SERIOUS comment on Rush's part. And no matter how loud you liberal pigs squeal you can't turn it into a serious comment:

"Yes, I think in the Haiti earthquake, ladies and gentlemen -- in the words of Rahm Emanuel -- we have another crisis simply too good to waste. This will play right into Obama's hands. He's humanitarian, compassionate. They'll use this to burnish their, shall we say, "credibility" with the black community -- in the both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country. It's made-to-order for them. That's why he couldn't wait to get out there, could not wait to get out there."

You can't read that and tell me it was serious comment. Earlier in the show he talks about this being the "Media Tweak of the Day."

Cheney, that's horse manure. True, I think he was trying to be snarky, but in his underlying message, that the only reason Obama moved quickly in this case is that it provides him with political gain, I think he means to be completely serious. He has made too many statements along these lines to take this statement any differently. Combined with his juxtaposition of Obama's actions in regard to the Haiti catastrophe with those surrounding the underwear bomber, that is, his continuing harping on the number of days it took Obama to make a statement about the bomber, one can't come to any other conclusion than he was speaking in all seriousness about his opinions on the motivations for Obama's actions following the Haiti earthquake.

While I agree with you that Limbaugh is a clown, and I wish everyone would react to his statements as one would to a clown's slapstick, it is disingenuous of you to point this out as a reason for not taking him seriously, precisely bacause it is people like you that take such buffoonery seriously when it comes to political debate.

I read the piece and I did not detect any irony or sarcasm, his voice inflection would have helped in the excerpt but if read dryly it is the same old stuff.

The Cubans were there with 300 doctors immediately afterward un announced, Brazil also, China responded as well as France and even Iceland. Perhaps they are trying to influence the light skin and dark skinned blacks in their communities.

This is a world unifying event, especially in these economic times.

An even more unstable Haiti hurts the SE USA as well as Haiti's neighbors.

If it's satire, then where is the hook? Where's the funny? Nowhere.

Also, considering the source's habit of raciallizing everything, the comment cannot be reasonably construed as mere exaggeration, since this is precisely the kind of garbage Rush hold to be true.

So, a president in this situation who didn't want to give the impression he was trying to boost credibility among a minority group would...?

Perhaps, he would wait a few days, then pledge $15M - $25M less than he spent on his inauguration - in support? Yeah, that would likely dissuade anyone suggesting he was boosting his credibility. But I guess that's just the strategy of a truly genius statesman.

I'm talking about the proper response to foreign catastrophe. You may remember the Asian tsunami back in '05. George Bush didn't immediately send billions of dollars over there to make it look like he was sucking up to Asians. No. He waiting a few days, then offered $400k in aid, then later $15M, then $25M, then, after a week or so, finally agreed to $350M. You didn't hear anyone accusing him of trying to gain credibility by pretending he cared. He didn't. He skillfully avoided the accusations. Rush is just pointing out that Obama could learn a thing or two from Bush.

The criticism here seems to be that Obama, by caring too much to not consider the political advantages of manipulating his response in order to manipulate a potentially manipulative public opinion deserves to have public opinion manipulated against him in the direction of what, if he were politically competent, he could have avoided.

It's like thugs waiting in alleys declaring that anyone who walk the streets deserves to be knocked over the head because 'that's what they deserve for being stupid enough' to walk down the streets...

Like hell. Rush is accusing Obama of using this situation to curry favor with blacks in the US, when in fact, Obama is calling on this country and its government to provide humanitarian aid in response to a horrible disaster.

There's a time and place for examining the political motivations of our elected officials. But today wasn't that day. Rush could have waited until the suffering had subsided a bit. Instead, per usual, he's utterly lacking in empathy toward those less fortunate than he is.

No one grasped the full size and scope of the devastation from the Indonesian tsunami for some days. The biggest devastation, in populous but remote seaside villages of Indonesia itself, was unknown because they were completely wiped out.
In contrast, Haiti's earthquake hit near the capital where the embassies and the county's international transportation and communication hubs are located.

Actually, no, Rush. Obama will reach out to Haiti because we are a wealthy nation, and they are a poor one. They are a neighbor of ours, and it is our place to aid them if we may.

You, however, will assert that Obama is doing it for racial reasons, because such an assertion plays very well to the white skinned base who's listeners pay your salary.

Why would Obama need to boost his credibility with the black community? Just a couple of weeks ago the right were pointing to his 97% approval rating among blacks as "proof" that they only like him because he's black. So 97% approval means he has a credibility problem now?

His license (yes he does have one) should be yanked immediately. It would not compromise his first amendment rights since he'd then have the same platform as every other American. There was one sort of complaint in the days immediately after the tsunami. The initial contributions from the United State promised by then President Bush were seemingly tiny. But that was something like a plane load of actual cash that was being flown in to buy supplies, like, immediately. Further funds were gonna be forthcoming from the US. So people were upset that we were donating very little, but that just wasn't the case.

Not that I make a habit out of defending Rahm Emanuel too often, but Rush is quoting him completely out of context in this video. Rahm made a statement about the crisis of the US ECONOMY back in 2008. NOT a humanitarian crisis. NOT a natural disaster that has killed thousands. To purposely attribute a statement made about the US economic crisis to what is going on in Haiti is sickening. Rahm Emanuel's quote about crisis bringing opportunity can be found here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122721278056345271.html

To the adjectives that apply to Rush, like bigot, illogical, fear-mongering talking head I now add sociopath. Because only a sociopath would take the tragedy in Haiti and state that the President of the US is an opportunist and guilty of political pandering because he takes immediate steps to provide aid and prevent more deaths in a devastated country, the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. Rush preaches anti-social behavior--he argues against human decency and charity for political gain. HE IS SICK.

I'm African American. What Rushie knows about the AA community in America is zero, nada, zilch. Rushie cares for no one except himself and his little circle of cronies.

It seems to me that Rushie was hoping that the president wouldn't respond to the crisis in Haiti. The president responded in a timely manner.

Rushie is not concerned about the devastation or the thousands of lives lost because they're mostly brown people, and he's going to tie them to the president and AAs in America because of that. I expect the same thing from President Obama that I expected from the other white presidents I've voted for since 1972, and that is for him to do his job to the best of his ability and keep the needs of the Americans as his first priority.

No matter what President Obama does, Rushie and the wingnuts will criticize him in an attempt to score political points. I'm glad that the president does his job and ignores them. He refuses to give them the attention they crave.

The tragic thing about Rush is that he has absolutely NO compassion. It is a sickness of his soul. It is really tragic and he is to be pitied. For all his rant and all his money and all his so called fame, he has no soul. That tragedy alone outweighs all his fame, his money and his so called friends. The saddest thing is that we know he has no friends or they would confront him for his sick hate filled rhetoric. As in the scripture, he is probably of all men most retched. Otherwise how to explain his nasty disposition. My mother used to sing an old song, "Except I be moved with compassion, How dwelleth thy spirit in me." I think of her singing every time I hear a word out of Rush's mouth. I can honestly hear my mom whispering in my ear to be compassionate for the poor thing. But alas, while she could have managed it, I never can!

Limbaugh claimed the entire amount of $4.2 million (which put him in the top 10) that ended up being donated to charity. I wonder how Rush does in other years outside of him claiming money taken from some poor sucker on ebay for a fake controversy?

Like his gafes with the hospital in Hawaii and purposely not having health care insurance, this guy is living in a world of "little people" who do not see beyond their own noses. Hopefully, his audience will continue to dwindle and his financial support, as well. But in the South, he is all over the radio, along with all the other right-wing nuts. Rush was born and raised in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, which is in what is called the "Boot Heel" (or Sh*t Heel) in Missouri. At on time, Cape Girardeau was a bastion of racism. While I will not label everyone from there in this way, I have met quite a few people from "The Cape" who are, in the literal sense of the term, stupid ignorant rednecks. Rush fits this description prefectly. And my apologies if I offend intelligent any readers from Cape Girardeau.

I have been living with the term implosion for the last 4 years and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the unveiling of our government hypocrises. Starting with Katrina, the congressional election, the Obama election, McCain's selection of Palin, the banking and stock market situation, the exposure of spiritual leaders and biased political pundits, it appears to be a domino effect for our growth. This will hopefully prepare us to make changes for better days for us and our children. It is time for us to live closer to the purpose for which we were created.

As far as Rush and Robertson are concerned, 'He who is loud has nothing to say'.

Time to start spitting in Limbaugh's face. He does not deserve public access to the general population. Not that he needs the American public anyway.

FOX must be really upset having to cover this tragedy in that it's ratings will plummet as their viewers turn away.

Great comment last night on O'Reilly last night as he asked Dennis Miller, "If everyone thinks Sarah Palin is so dumb, then why are our ratings so high?"

Hmmm I have to admit I too slow down on the highway when I pass an accident!

There are some things that should not be politicalized...the horrific tragic situation in Haiti is one of them. Rush Limbaugh should be ashamed of himself on this one however I seriously doubt he is. Limbaugh you should be using you air time to help the victims instead of trying post your racist views against our President Obama who is clearly a compassionate man in all tragic situations. Also please know Rush that President Obama does not need to secure the black vote since blacks only make up 12% of the population. So you can clearly see blacks did not vote him in office in the first place-all the of the nationalities made it happen! Thank God for that! Rush get your priorities in order and get some compassion and care in your spirit.

So what does Rush do to boost credibility with the black community? There is no pleasing these people. If it isn't one thing, its another.

I hope the best for the people of Haiti.

Yes, a history lesson on Haitian politics is the same as Rush's racist, hate-filled invective.

This is another example of the right wing creating a false equivalency, like comparing Reid's stupid comments to Trent Lott's wish that the USA had elected a segregationist president in 1948.

Plus, if you actually read the damn article, you'd see that the author, James Ridgeway, in part blames Clinton for inaction as well. But of course, all you did was read the title of the article and post the link.

To think no GOP leader will call this man to order tells me one thing, they are totally inept and lack any moral standing. I'd rather God takes me immediately than ever vote republican ever again.
Lastly Conservatives can win seats back, but long term mark my word its a certified dying party, with nit wits like this openly dismissing the importance of the lives of people that are not white. .A time will come when Republicans will struggle to win in areas like Texas that is fast becoming cosmopolitan.

I am black and I know I am not wanted in the Republican party, I am conservative but I'd rather hang than be in a party with such hate of anything that isn't white.

Events and comments made that catch national attention are personal opinion. Personal opinions fall in line with the views of political parties naturally. For years the events and opinions have been polarizing. They will be even more so in coming years. There will be three basic groups. Two that will oppose each other and the "fence sitters". Pick a side based on right or wrong and buckle up. It will not stop until we are finished.

It is so sick to use such a terrible tragedy as this into a slam against Obama who is laying out plans to help these poor people. No decent individual that heard this could ever approve of this. I still think that decent individuals outnumber the evil ones in the US.

excuse me His comments were followed up by Senator Mary Landrieu who excoriated President Bush. She said in part, ““The President’s assertion that the federal response to Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent levee breaks was anything but slow and disgracefully dysfunctional reveals that the administration’s tunnel vision has unfortunately remained constant since August 29, 2005.” to help was a learning point for all presidents I'm sure Rush Limbaugh can argue both ways he didn't react fast enough he reacted to some say he acted fast enough I prefer someone to act fast and act slow like President Bush and to not make up words like Bush.

Limbaugh is jealous of Obama. Take a look at Obama's academic accomplishments/achievements, compare it with Limbaugh's. Obama's The President of the United States of America. Limbaugh is a radio talk show host. Obama is married with two children, Limbaugh was married three times, they all ended in divorce. If Limbaugh has all the answers to the social issues facing America, he should run for the Presidential seat. As popular as he is, he should win by a land slide. Or, maybe he loves is radio program more than he loves America. I guess its easier to criticize than it is to administrate. I have to give him credit, he knows how to capitalize on the ignorance and fears of his listeners. One thing for certain, the American Eagle doesn't fly on one wing. Show America and the world how great a president you would be Rush. If you have the cure for all that is wrong with America, the white house is waiting. Be a Patriot. If you don't have a cure for all that is wrong with America, you will stay on the radio where you belong. Its much easier to criticize than it is to administrate.

I don't know if Limbaugh is a racist or not; that's not the issue. The issue is that he uses race baiting, and class jealousy for his own monetary, and egotisical gain.

After politizing the tragedy in Hati in racial terms, he denies accountability for it. He was only "tweaking" the media. Truthfully, that was probably part of it. He knew the media was going to pick up on it. So, he got his ego recharged while at the same time accusing the President of courting the black vote. It was a win, win situation for Limbaugh, and his ratings and paycheck are secured.

Limbaugh is really the worst kind of human being. What his own personal sentiment is on race is irrelevent even to himself. It is all about feeding the insatiable beast - himself.

Rush did not invent the issue of capitalizing on tragedy, Rahm Emanuel and BHO did that when they decreed that no emergency should go to waste. You don't have to like Rush but if you listen to him, investigate what he says, then you will understand that he speaks the truth 99% of the time and that infuriates Liberals and big money Dems. Calling Rush a race baiter and not calling Jessie or Al the same is a loser from the start. If you want to donate to Haiti - do it. No one is stopping you. If you want to pay higher taxes, do it. The government and I will both love you. I frankly, want to keep a portion of the money I earn. Thank You - but NO.

it's funny how all you liberals take offense to what rush says. if bush waited as long as obama, it would be because he hates black people am i right? the fact that media matters has pages devoted to things that fox news does is proof that the liberal machine isn't working as well as it used to so they need to use propaganda to make the conservative look bad. it's truly sickening. every time one of your liberal representatives, or spokespeople say something radically wrong, it's fine, there's never a problem. the fact that timmy tax cheat geithner still has his job, is pathetic. the man in charge of the irs can't use turbo tax?????? the fact that a bunch of obama's appointed positions have commusnist beliefs is okay with you people? when did you stop living for yourselves and when did you start expecting things to be given to you? is anyone on fox news reporting on how abc, nbc, msnbc is reporting on haiti? no, because they have class. ugh, you people make me sick.
