Thus, if you want to HELP the maximum number of Haitians in the most efficient way, use private charity IN LIEU OF federal aid. Same money, but more effective. That strikes me as MORE compassionate, so what is so terribly WRONG about that? Charity Navigator, GuideStar and other websites and their articles and academic studies will help show you which are the most effective.
What is WRONG with thinking logically? And I'm not just trying to mock you, I'm being serious as well.
Logic will tell you that donations to private charities will not be sufficient, no matter how much people send. Logic will tell you that the federal government [which is you and me, btw] has more access to the heavy equipment, the building materials, etc., that are needed immediately. Logic will tell you that it is in our country's interests to make sure that a devastated country whose government is in a shambles which is within striking distance of our country see us as a friend and not an enemy.
As for thinking logically . . . that's part of my profession. I have absolutely no difficulty with logic and critical thinking whatsoever, but, based upon your post, you do. Carry on.
The problem with applying that to the Hatian situation is, that no NGO or private charity has the equipment or logistical man power to handle a devastation that was this fast and this severe. The US military, inconjuction with the International Red Cross, and other world relief agencies and private charity will all be working together. It's not as if the NGO's are left out of the process. That's one of the perceptions that Beck is propagating and it's simply not true.
The UN aid chief makes that exact point in this Reuters article. Notice his last words on private organizations like Blackwater in the last paragraph though.
Talk about hypocrisy. How can people listen to this moron without either laughing or flinging their radio across the room?
Please stop the childlike name calling and enter into an intelligent discussion.
Glenn Beck: "Obama is a white-hating racist."
Sorry, I'm a conservative and I totally agree with the liberals here that Beck is a moron.
I don't think you understand the history of urban policy in the US. Otherwise, you would not blame it on "liberals" or whatever right-wing bogeyman you can think up.
Alcibiades: Convinced the people of Athens to attempt to conquer Sicily during the Peloponnesian War, with disastrous results. He led the Athenian assembly to support making him commander by claiming victory would come easily, appealing to Athenian vanity, and appealing to action and courage over deliberation.
Cleon: Another leader of Athens, criticized by Thucydides for anti-intellectualism and for such rhetorical devices as accusing his political opponents of having been bribed and appealing to savage desires such as aggression.
Adolf Hitler: Led the Nazi party to power in Germany by appeals to ethnic pride and conspiracy theories that blamed Jews for the nation's economic troubles. He instituted government control over the news media, and used his charisma and great oratorical skills to lead Germany into a war aimed at expanding its territory.
Joseph McCarthy: U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 to 1957. A poor orator,[1] he rose to national prominence during the early 1950’s by accusing a number of politicians and other individuals of being either communists or communist sympathizers. He presented himself as being above reproach while anyone who questioned or disagreed with him he branded as disloyal to the US government. Ultimately his inability to substantiate his claims led him to be censured by the United States Senate in 1954 and a loss of popular support.
Seems I learned something about that kind of reaction in elementary school. Something to with a dog?????
[/sarcasm]
I responded to your last one above.
I will repeat, these people are DISGUSTING examples of the human species.
Or maybe he will just use his voice until it is completely destroyed and he will not be able to speak ever again.
[Lacking the power of speech. Used of animals and inanimate objects.]
Of course he would still have his stupid chalk board but that would really tend to slow the pace of his TV show.
*sick sarcasm
Relief for Americans, and the private sector (which includes Detroit's major employer, the auto industry) in the form of stimulus and TARP from the Fed. Not good.
Relief for a devastated nation from the Fed. Not good.
US Military on the ground in Haiti. Good
Asking the (magical) private sector to take responsibility for providing the aid. Good.
Wait Glenn, I thought asking the private sector to do anything is commie, especially for a foreign nation? Wait Glenn, I thought you didn't want stimulus to places like Detroit? Now you do? Wait Glenn, I thought troops on the ground in foreign nations, except for war, was anti-Constitutional or anti-American?
Glenn.... WAIT! Are you making this up as you go along? I'm getting the impression your principles are subjective.
Will someone please let Rush know I need some pain killers, ASAP !
The devestation and economic decline in Detroit was not entirely the government's fault dummy. The deregulation of businesses primarly The Big 3 led to CORPORATIONS becoming knowledgeable that I can send my business overseas and pay a cheaper wage, while making citizens here unemployed. The corporation lobbying money led to deregulation and the decline of middle class in Detroit and all over the country.
Try Again Becky! SMH!
