An former BF is one of Fox's biggest fans . . . loves O'Reilly as much as FL and like her, repeats every word he says verbatim and in a reverent tone. Anyway, he also received 100% SS disability and Medicare because of a debilitating nerve disorder. Without it, he would be unable to survive. Wonder what he'll think of old Glenn's comments. I know he's watching. He watches Fox all but a couple of hours in a 24 hour day because of medication induced insomnia.
Damn socialists! What is Obama trying to do now, kill all the old people!!
<sarc>
Because it is socialism. Didn't you hear Beck? It is right there in the name, "Social Security". They didn't even try to hide it.
Durn libruls.
What do all those old folks need with social security?
"From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs."
- Karl Marx
When you take money from some people at gunpoint, and "redistribute the wealth" to other people, based on perceived "needs", that's socialism, marxism, or Progressivism, whichever term you prefer.
Most righties will condemn socialism on one hand, yet bash Democrats for contemplating a half-trillion dollar cut to medicare.
We know why they do it. Cutting medicare and/or social security is unpopular.
I only hope Beck gains in unpopularity as a result of these statements.
I know how the right thinks that this type of "hand out" just gets people "addicted" to it... but, what is an 80 year old supposed to do in this society? Go work in a coal mine?
Oh and I forgot that we are all supposed to take individual responsibility and prepare for our twilight years, but in the real world, not everyone is going to be able to do this and those without a safety net will suffer... Is that how you want to treat our elderly... Well, I know what Beck thinks.
This country has become amazingly stupid, to the delight of conservatives.
Shame, shame, Beck.
Harry Hopkins was never seriously accused of being a pro-Soviet spy. He worked with the Soviets during WW2 - considering we were allied with them, this is hardly a condemnation - and at any rate had nothing to do with Social Security. Right-wing critics in the 30's didn't like him because of his high role in FDR's administration as a New Dealer, but it wasn't like Hopkins snuck over to Russia, saw how they were doing things, reported back to FDR, and that's where we got Social Security.
His bizarre, scathing portrayal of Ida May Fuller, while factually accurate, shows a complete lack of understanding as to how Social Security works. Of COURSE the first recipient will probably get a bit more than she paid, you freaking moron. Even by Beck's standards, this argument is comically flawed and petty - an indication that when attacking the economic policies of the President who led America out of a severe depression, one tends to grasp at straws.
Again, Beck's anti-liberal rampage has unsurprisingly led him to counter-factual nonsense that, even if it made sense - and it doesn't - represents a political battle that his side lost 70 years ago. It's clear that he's desperately searching for something new, and I don't think even the Tea Partiers are going to buy that Wilson, FDR, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Obama are all on the same side of the "progressive" coin.
Harry Hopkins was never accused of being a spy. Harry Hopkins job was to pass along information to Stalin and top Soviet officials on what FDR was planning in order to gain their support.
But poor O'Keefe, he is a ballsy kid, who is innocent until proven guilty.
Yup, poor O'Keefe. Too bad he already admitted is guilt.
Typically, Dreck stoops to smearing Harry Hopkins, with vague accusations of his having been accused of being a spy. Hopkins, however, was NEVER accused of spying by any governmental agency. Doughboy knows that such accusations came exclusively from dishonest and manipulative right wing media thugs... the Glenn Drecks of that era, if you will. These were the same people that frequently called FDR himself a Bolshevic and a Jew.
And, Dreck further smears Hopkins by claiming that he "had a relationship with Stalin", and that he could "get him to accomplish foreign policy." This, admittedly, was true. But, this was also in the midst of WWII, and the Soviet Union was our ally in our war against Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan. Representing FDR, Hopkins served to help coordinate our military dealings with the USSR, and, as such, performed a great service to our nation and our fighting men. To see him thus smeared and vilified some 70 odd years later by this smug and loathesomely unrepentant chickenhawk is truly sickening.
And what of Ida May Fuller? She gets the Dreck treatment for having the unmitigated gall of living a long life. The purpose of Social Security was to prevent... as commonly occurred in that era... America's elderly from falling into severe poverty. Ida's case was well publicized at that time, as it showed that Social Security WAS WORKING FOR THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH IT HAD BEEN CREATED! OF course she benefited out of proportion to what she paid in. America did not want to see its older generation starving. Only the most compassionless and right wing of Americans were willing to tell our elderly "Hey, if you're going hungry, then why don't you get up off your lazy backsides and ride the rails just like the other hobos."
Glenn Dreck has proven once again that he doesn't have a soul.
"I'm an American, I can read. (Well, mostly Hustler, when I'm not watching anime porn)."
Man that was a FAIL!
Social Security was created in GERMANY by Otto Von Bismark!
He also gave the country its first form of HEALTH CARE. Employer contribution with employee's pay! STILL GOING TODAY!
Not Adolf Hitler!
That's Beck.
I wonder how many of those fan-boys are still okay with accepting the benefit of these social programs.
I have a feeling the majority of Beck fanatics only consider policy socialistic if it's Obama policy.
MagCynic refuses to believe actual history. So his comments is not to be taken seriously. Beliefs of his nature do distort reality and sadly many people are like him. Believing people like Beck or Goldberg. Sad!
Before you say things, look 'em up. Don't base your "knowledge" of Hitler's Germany on a book by Jonah Goldberg. Try reading REAL history by REAL historians, not political hacks like Goldberg.
