I dont like the way he said it the first time even though i understand what he was trying to say. I thought the clarification here was much better in its wording. And he is right - its both an important and a difficult thing to mention but im glad he said it.

I don't have a problem with the truth. But if we ever have a call to discuss what truth hurting feels like I'll be sure to keep you in mind...

If anyone on Fox said anything like this, even in the same sentiment, we'd be all over them. Just keeping it real.

I give Chris Mathews credit for being honest.Everything President Obama does is done in the contex of "He is black,so no matter what he does we must take the required 25% point deduction, and make everything late to get late fee deductions before we add up his points"This methodology is used by many in the media, left, and right. How many will admit it? Chris Mathews is being honest with White America,Black America already knows.

So? What difference does that make anyway? Wouldn't it be better if people didn't focus on race anyway?

I completely get what Chris was trying to say. With that said, in response to your comment "Wouldn't it be better if people didn't focus on race anyway?" I would say no. Not focusing on race can lead to not focusing on real issues that are a factor of race, like race-based discrimination in public housing and the unjust "War on Drugs." I understand why some may want to embrace the idea of colorblindness, but it can often lead to neglect.

The whole affair bespeaks America's love/hate relationship with race. Seems the matter of race proves too hot for some, and for others a positive boon. It's all in how one approaches the subject. But as for the clumsy forays of late, I must confess I've lost much confidence in the white man's ability to rule, if for no other cogent reason than none of their ilk is capable of suppressing his latent racism. Take this not as an accusation, but a fair assessment of a dire pattern of thoughtlessness in the face of a thoughtful, perhaps thought filled topic.

One question to avoid further gaffes by media types. Is Obama a black man with a white mother, or a white man with a black father?

The media obsession with race started when Obama started looking like a viable candidate in the primaries after they successfully smeared Hillary and Bill thinking they could start early on them both because she was sure to get the nomination. At that point the media ignored the polls that clearly indicated that Americans were ready for a black president and started race baiting. The Reverend Wright, the black vote, white America, etc, etc. They never let up on it. Fomenting racial hatred in the US would help divide America and allow McCain to win. Unfortunately this might have worked except that they were forced to (for the first time in two decades) focus on a real issue before an election - The Economy. Otherwise they would have obsessed over racial divisions, Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, etc to continue brainwashing an already simplistic society with more simplistic pet training.
Racial harmony will only come when a black REPUBLICAN decides to run for office. Then we can watch "the best political team on television" and the like opine over how far we've come and how much "support" the people have for a black President for the first time.
