Keith Olbermann refers to Beck as "Lonesome Rhodes", after the Andy Griffith character in A Face in the Crowd. I think that's a fitting comparison. If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it.

It's about a loser who becomes a media superstar thanks to clever promotion and his ability to spout folksy sounding philosophy and anecdotes. He gradually starts taking himself seriously, gets the big head and alienates the people around him. He eventually crashes and burns (figuratively).

We can only hope that Glenda suffers the same fate as Lonesome did.
