From scratch? Great. Maybe the Democrats won't freeze out the proponents of Single Payer in order to appease the Republicans and the Conservadems this time.

That should be the Democratic response to the Republican proposal to start from scratch. They claim they were shut out of the process, but the Democrats caved on single payer, then did the same on the public option.

The Democrats should be appearing on every news program in the country discussing the "new" Republican budget plan that proposes privatization of both social Security and Medicare. Let's see if the seniors will complain.

        I know it won't happen...

But wouldn't it be great if Obama, Reid, and Pelosi have already decided that this is an attempt to trap the Party of No by dumping the whole Senate and House bills completely and simply bring back single payer in the form of Medicare For All, forcing the issue on those un-patriotic punks!!!

The Republican message: We won because we lost. We didn't let you participate in the governmental process when we were in charge, how dare you ignore us now. We want everything our way, even though you are in charge. We will do everything we can to embarrass, disrupt, and stall the Democrats in order to regain power. Once we regain the majority, we will do everything we can to suck up to corporations and the rich because some crumbs might trickle down to the regular people. We will spend all our time convincing the little people that they are really better off being screwed by Corporations and "The Holy Free Market".

Bull, the bills already contain many Republican amendments. The Republicans are not looking for bipartisanship at all. The only bill they will vote for is one which has only their policies in it.

They aren't against the bill, they are using it to shut down Congress.

The Republican Health Care Bill, if honest, would contain one sentence: "More of the Same."

Sen. Barrasso goes on the Ed Schultz show and tells the host that he's "outraged" at the 39% increase in insurance rates planned in California. Schultz should have asked the blowhard "why? I thought you and your party were opposed to government interference in private enterprise? And while we are at it, why aren't you proposing scrapping Social Security and Medicare, you hypocritical frauds?"

The Democrats need to put the Republicans into the corner they CLAIM they want to be in- where they are in favor of complete Free Enterprise, with no government regulation at all. Then the Democrats should proclaim themselves the party that will put a harness on abusive corporations, and take that case to the people, and let the people decide which future they want. If only.

Obama wants to discuss health care with Republicans who SAY they are open to discussions. Then, first thing, even before a single meeting, they make clear that their expctation is that HE and his allies abandon ALL of their ideas and beliefs, while agreeing IN ADVANCE to accept those of the Republicans.

This is why "bipartisanship" as currently dfined dosn't work -- the Republicans don't want to negotiate. They want it all their way, and they want to give in on nothing.

The reason they keep winning is that they can always find a few democrats to go along with them, while the Democrats can never find even a single Republican to back even one of their proposals.

If the Democrats had any political sense and cohesion, they'd simply take the responses of Cantor, Boehner and McConnell as proof that the GOP won't negotiate, and then implement thir own ideas with no support from the other side.

Make the case to the voters that the Republicans are not interested in bargaining in good faith, and do SOMETHING. ANYTHING. Trust me, the people will support you simply for having taking any action at all.

I think we are headed in that direction. I still have faith in Obama as a politician and I believe he is going to do his best to paint the Republicans into a corner with respect to health care reform. Don't lose complete faith. He may not have done everything right and everything we would have all liked him to do during his first year, but he is the smartest cat in the room and I think he has an ace up his sleeve if he can play it right.

Johnson can only be talking to Fox News mentally challenged audience with this nonsense.
Why would Obama "scratch" a bill he's been working on for a year, knowing Republican's objective is to "kill" the bill? That would be playing right into the Obstructionist hands. Everybody knows a delay (scratch) would be the same as killing the Healthcare Reform bill.
Johnson also thinks a summit with Obama is a "trap" for Republicans.
When did democracy and responsibility by elected officials become uncivil and adversarial? And why would one political Party be suspicious and fearful of the other Party, at the expense of the American people?
Could the fact that Republicans are willing to put the Party above the American people have anything to do with it?
When Obama met with Republicans at the last conference, he was able to master them because Republicans persisted on using talking points to engage the president, unfortunately, all of Republicans talking points originated from lies. Since the last meeting Republicans continue to use the same debunked talking points time and again.
Obama believes in democracy,... he is not interested in trapping Republicans (not as long as they are stuck on stupid), but Republicans need to stop playing politics and work together with Democrats to help solve the problems facing the America people. I believe they have absolutely no intentions on doing that, not as long as the president is black.

        Well said Manofmymystique!!!!!
Republicans have been kissing Limbaugh's behind, taking cues from Fox News and really believe they have most Americans's believing the nonsense.Yes they have succeeded in confusing and angering some people that were on the fence anyway. They have painted so much as radical ..just who is left that they agree with ???Yep now they are kissing Teabaggers' behinds!! They show every day that they have no intention of compromising to get actual reform and it will be front and center on TV when this is discussed and their alleged solutions are vetted. The impossible sound bites like.." we will cover everyone at no cost" will be examined.Just like they want to cut txes and make the economy "roar" back with no greater demand for goods and services since more people would be out of work with the reduction in Gov spending they also claim they would enact! They looked so uninformed and disingenuous last time and it was just the President by himself with 140 house Republicans. What will be funny is Senate Republicans that have been the most obstructionist of all will be there. It will be even easier to expose their intent!!!

manofmystique, I totally agree with you, the Republications will always be the party of HELL NO, they could care less about the American People, all they care about is themselves. Obama will not "scratch" the bill and start from the beginning he already see through this nonsense.
The Republicans whole Agenda is to put this off until mid-term elections and use this as bait, but it will not work.

When Obama became President a lot of them thought that they had themselves a 'YES MAN', a man that they could give orders and he fall at their feet and woke up to rude awakening. They are 'AFAIRD' because he is BLACK and they cannot control him nor can they read him and that makes them AFRAID OF HIM, can't you hear what they are saying behind closed doors, but too afaird to say it out loud.

I'm so disgusted by this whole charade that it makes me want to puke.

The HealthCare Corporations have their tentacles up the butt of practically every person in Congress.

This nonsense about starting from scratch is just another stalling tactic by the Republitoads. They know that starting over will drag the process into the 2010 elections, when their mantra will be that Democrats can't get anything done.

      Hide and watch.

Bull. You just want a do over. The fact is the bills are bi-partisan. The Reps got all their ideas in there. Just because they then refused to vote for it doesn't mean it isn't bi-partisan.

The GOP is a trap = the only thing grand about the GRAND old party is their delusions of GRANDeur. YOU ARE THE MINORITY PARTY! You did not care at all about healthcare reform while in power. The american people dont want you, they voted you out of office and for good reason. You dont have a plan, you dont have ideas, you dont have common sense! This is boehner's plan - this and that. He summed it all up with those two words - no actual ideas. Not cut medicare? Just privatize and destroy it! That is the repugs plan - just die sooner because we don't want to have to fork over a dime to help you get coverage.

How'd you like Doocy's little closing remark about having a physician in the Senate act as moderator. Since Barrasso and Coburn, the only two doctors in the Senate, are REPOs, Doocy is pushing to have a GOPper chair the event. Talk about fair&balanced!

If they have a plan why in the hell did they not do this when they were in the majority? what a bunch of hypocrits. Just pass the damn thing and to hell with the rebubs. The Dems won the last election by a landslide and they should govern like they did. Do not pander to these fools anymore. I just sent a letter to the President, my two senators, Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, plus my Representative James Oberstar, asking them to quit pandering and govern.
