Yes, god forbid a child might have a differing opinion than his parents. I do and everyone is fine and loves each other. This right wing family values b.s. I guess includes remain in lockstep to your family's "values" (no matter how skewed they might be) and DON'T think for yourself.

one Fox News fan, sent out an enraged email claiming Sesame Street was "undermining his authority" because they did a short, and funny, parody of Fox News. it was cute and no sane person could have been upset about Sean Spammity et. al. but Fox complained

What about kids that became eligible to vote and chose to vote against candidates who openly campaigned in support of racist Jim Crow laws? Were progressives wrong for encouraging them to turn against the ideas of their parents and grandparents?

Nowhere did I get from that commercial that they were asking kids to turn against their parents, sounds more like it was saying open up a conversation. If I was conservative, this wouldn't bother me nor would I be afraid of my children turning against me. I know I have raised them to think for themselves and we can have different believes and still live in the same house.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out what it is the voices in Glenn's head tell him... how it is that he manages to come up with some of the garbage that flies out of his mouth. Does he actually exist in an alternative universe, or on a different space/time continuim?? I watch Beck speak, and I see signs of paranoid dellusion... in fact, I actually see much of the same crazy, unbalanced glint in his eyes that I see when I watch old Hitler footage. If Beck starts advertising the Beck Youth Camps, I'm packing up the kids and we're defecting.

Okay, the legal voting age in this country is 18 which is also the legal age for a person to join the military. It is considered the age of "majority" in many states. These young people are not "kids," they are adults.

      Shut up, Beck.

I am really torn with this if you are uninformed and it sounds good then vote for it. just like when the mortgage company says you can afford a 300 k house with no money down, interest only payments and come back in 4 years and we will refinance you, just buy it and worry later?

Again you need ALL the facts and or information to make a wise decision or choice. I personally feel neither Mccain or Obama was the correct choice for the job we have not had a truly qualified person for the job in years. Most politicians i feel could balance a check book or run a company and passing a background check for a government job. The people running for these job SHOULD pass a background check FIRST BEFORE RUNNING they have access to the most sensitive material.

With all the associations most politicians have with questionable people that have checkered backgrounds it seems to me that the true vetting of these people are lacking in the basic process of the real investigation.

Again if the ability to make a living as a politician was not there maybe we could get people in these positions that care about the future of our country instead of selling it to the highest bidder.

To put it in other terms stop borrowing money from other countries to finance unproven or unneeded government programs that has made out country lazy and dependent on government to make our decisions.

I totally don't understand what your point was with this statement. Are you suggesting the voting age should be higher? You don't think an 18 year old, who has the ability to join the military and go to war and potentially die defending his country, should be able to vote? Are you suggesting an 18 year old is not legally an adult? I really just don't understand what that statement was supposed to mean.

Well what a sticky situation this is, states rights vs the federal government.
As a young person who may not fully understand how thing operate, they will support the one who wants the government to give free things to everyone, wants to tax the rich, and control everything because they themselves have been coddled their whole life and they feel that is the way.

Well the days of "everyone must feel good no matter what the cost" should be over, it has made our society dependent on others and less responsible for our own actions.

bailing out companies was just wrong as far as I see it they should have failed. Encouraging people to buy houses they could not afford just because the government wants more home ownership was wrong. Yet no one has told these people no in thier life because it will "hurt their feelings" or "stifle their creativity" is wrong on many levels.

If someone NEVER fails how will they know if they are doing it correct?? If they are let to go through life thinking they and everyone else are always doing it correctly then wrong is never in the equation. Where will that lead us as a country oh wait that is were we are NOW!!!

You are completely stereotyping and generalizing young people with this statement. I, for example, have worked since I was fifteen. I worked bagging groceries in a produce stand through high school and busted my butt waiting tables all through college. I resent your statement that young people have all been "coddled" their whole lives.

You're basically saying young people are stupid and/or don't agree with you so you don;t think they should be allowed to vote.

I was working full time during the summers when I was fourteen and fifteen. I begin working approximately 24 hours a week after school when I was sixteen. I started working full time when I was eighteen while attending college full time. I'm working full time right now and I still take a class on occasion. Before any of this, I was taking care of my little brothers and sister while my mother went to work to make sure we had a roof over our heads and food to eat. I haven't needed the government to help me out with anything but I do understand that some in our society may need help.

I've said this before: conservatives tend to view people as evil and that's why their minds immediately jump to the most negative thing when discussing any topic. His post borders on retarded because the people most coddled in our society tend to be moneyed (e.g., George Bush), not people like you, me or anyone in that video.

I'm really interested in the opinion of someone who can't distinguish between a stream of consciousness and a grammatical sentence.

"I personally feel neither Mccain (sic) or Obama was the correct choice for the job we have not had a truly qualified person for the job in years." Setting aside for the moment that this is not a sentence, nice way to duck and cover from responsibility. So who WAS the best choice?

"Most politicians i feel could balance a check book or run a company and passing a background check for a government job." Seriously, are you a Palin fan? Because this is the kind of sentence fragment only she and her ilk could love.

Finally- the Constitution is quite clear as to the qualifications for President- 35 years old, natural-born citizen...and that's about it. Not good enough for you? Get an Amendment passed. Until then, what you "feel" isn't all that interesting.

I am a young liberal from Mississippi with very conservative parents who are originally from St. Louis. I also have an aunt/uncle from Nashville who are very conservative, and an aunt/unlce from New York City who are very liberal. We all have a fantastic relationship with each other, and find it nice that everyone's opinion is respected (although we certainly don't sit around and complain about poilitics when we get together.)

This is what I don't understand...the right-wing crazies (Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh) go on-and-on about how Obama is trying to take away every freedom we have, yet Beck here is trashing the right of a young adult to disagree with their parents, basically saying that they should have no opinion of their own. Don't people want their children to think for themselves anymore on the right? I guess it's okay until the kids realize that minorities, homosexuals, athiests, etc are all people too.

What are these bed-wetters talking about? My goodness the political discoure in America is on the verge of a complete idiocratic meltdown. Are people really this amazingly stupid?

Most people WANT their kids to grow up to be better educated than THEY were. My parents didn't get their college degrees until they were in their early-forties, having dropped out to get married and start a family. They didn't resent my brother for becoming a lawyer, and when they came to see me get my MA, they weren't bitter- they were PROUD.

Honoring your father and mother doesn't mean that you have to agree with all their political beliefs. I started arguing politics with my parents when I was 11 years old. My mother kept telling me that I would change my tune when I hit 30 and grew up. I'm even more Liberal now. I did have to explain quite a lot to my parents. My daughters explain a lot to me. I didn't feel that my parents were stupid, nor do I feel stupid when my daughters explain things to me. We each have different experiences and we've had very different educations. I always looked on these things as a way to share knowledge, even when I was the parent learning from the child. I don't consider it evil. I consider Glennie and his rants evil. He isn't trying to share knowledge, he's trying to force his opinion onto others.

Good job Beck wasn't around in biblical times what would he have said to Jesus when he talked to his parents in Luke 2:49

How about this. A right wing teacher at a small high school on the outskirts of St. Louis, MO. teaches nothing but conservatism and liberal bashing to his Modern History class. He even makes them get subscriptions to NewsMax. My nephew is 19 and spouts the daily republican mantra about how democrats have destroyed this nation and then have to gall to blame republicans. That 9/11 was Clinton's fault because his teacher told him that Clinton never told Bush about what might happen and when. Parent's have tried to get the teacher fired, but the school hides behind the First Amendment and says the he has his right to his opinions that that are Free Speech.

If that teacher required students to subscribe to The Nation, I'd think that was wrong too. Spouting your political opinion on a daily basis to your students is JUST PLAIN WRONG, no matter which "side" does it.

The best way to educate is to present factual information. For example, the documentary "Eyes on the Prize" has a point of view but mainly consists of actual film from the Civil Rights era, showing racism in all its ugliness for the observer to see for himself.

He is constantly combating "elitist" liberal ideas about education and support by claiming that Americans aren't stupid, and don't need the government's help.

...But apparently they ARE stupid enough to be indoctrinated so easily? Make up your mind, man.

And this is based on your extensive experience in clinical psychology? And the personal interview and therapy you have been doing with him? Or could it be baseless comments spoken out of arrogance and ignorance? I think you might benefit from the wisdom of Samuel Clemens:

"It is best to keep your mouth shut and be presumed ignorant than to open it and remove all doubt."

So now the small government advocate Beck likes the idea of the president helping families behave correctly?

Something tells me that in Beck's family he is always treated like a child since he wears the adult diapers.

So Glenny, give us a list of things that the President is ALLOWED TO DO! To date, he's not allowed to speak to our kids because that's indoctrination, not allowed to fix the economy because that's socialism, and he's not allowed to kill terrorists because then we can't torture them.

Glenny simply invents a backstory for these kids in the video where the kids somehow think that their parents are stupid and the Constitution is a bad thing.

It just scares me that people who buy into these rants vote. They elected Nixon twice, Reagan Twice, and Bush twice.

Why is it predominantly the "looney-left" that decides not to vote because of the "if voting changed anything it would be illegal" mentality. I wish more Tea Baggers would stay home come election day.

My very progressive best friend has extremely right-wing parents. I think, having known him most my life, that it wasn't school indoctrination that changed him to a liberal.

It was basically.. hey, how bout that. Guys like Beck, Limbaugh and O'Reilly, and their idiotic, heartless, greedy rambling that made him a progressive. I guess THEY'RE the leftist indoctrinators.

Because there is no one brave enough to go before a Judge and demand that Beck be taken to Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital for psychiatric observation, examination, and long term inpatient treatment. And also because he can hide behind the First Amendment and say the everything he says is considered opinion and Free Speech.

First Amendment rights protect him, but at some point he is going to cross that line into slander or libel. He keeps inching there, putting his toe at the line, and mocking us like a 2nd grader. He'll slip up and cross that line though. It is bound to happen. You can lie and spout out misinformation in the mass media but so much before you get your butt in serious trouble. Let him keep going, give him just enough rope.

So now Beck has become a family counselor and telling people how every family interacts? I guess that's one more thing he does along with being a historian about Mao and Hitler, a weather man who confuses weather with climate and a 24/7 clown that makes up ridiculous conspiracy theories. Boy, Glenn has his hands full over at Fox... they expect him to be superman, or something.

in regards to the indian woman who said she had to explain things to her parents: do you think it's possible that maybe her parents just don't speak very good english and therefore that is the reason they don't keep up much with politics and therefore she has to explain things to them? that was my thought when i watched her portion of the video. either way, the kids make it clear that their parents don't really follow politics and that's why they have to explain things to them and encourage them to vote. not because they have differening viewpoints and therefore stupid.

of course, if you read glenn's children's book about the christmas sweater, you'd realize he really dislikes kids who do not agree with their parents all the time.

There are a lot of complaints here about Beck being against children having there own opinion, but that is not the context or content of the video clip. His complaint here is not that children are being encouraged to discuss politics and governmental philosophy with their parents. His complaint is not that children might hold to a different political ideal than their parents. His complaint is that an organization with President Obama's campaign symbol is proposing that children instruct their parents in why President Obama is necessary for this country. That seems very partisan. The subtle message in the video is that parents need you (children) to help them with who to vote for. Since children are highly susceptible to information and many lack a fully developed ability to operate in a formal operational capacity, this video could be construed as propaganda. As with most of Mr. Beck, he takes things to ad absurdum, ad nauseum, but he also has hints of legitimate truth.

I did not read any other post.. don't know if anyone has stated this yet.. First let me say.. Kids! Listen to your Parents!

NOW.. Let me remind you all About that CRIMINAL or IDIOT or BOTH Ronnie Ray Gun.. (zap..) .. About a little thing called the "Drug War" ... Maybe some of you were not born yet.. but some of remember when they TOLD us to Turn in our Parents.. TOLD us to..
DARE to Turn in your Parents..

      How many went to jail?
What is scary is that this still goes on 25 years later..it is sad for all involved..
