"Why would any body believe this outrageous drivel!!!"

An important question. In my humble (and perhaps paranoid!) opinion, this is precisely why the educational system in the US bites the blue-veined bag: a generally ignorant population is easier to lead, mislead and thus CONTROL.

40 million people listen to Rush. Beck is gaining on him. Mission accomplished!

According to his No. 1 fan MagCynic or is that Bork, it's because he is an uneducated, unintelligent "common" man. See, being intelligent and educated makes one "elite," and therefore, not to be trusted. One should always believe the most uneducated, unintelligent "common" man in the room.

        Bizarre, huh?

Yes, bin, and the Beckers will somehow avoid this thread. Just like they avoided the thread about Beck proclaiming that Barack Obama was not an American name. To be a true Becker you have to live in constant denial of reality, and even then there are some statements you just cannot admit to hearing.

I read about this last week, but hadn't seen it reported in very many places that I would consider very reliable. I figured that the Color of Change website would be pretty reliable since they've been instrumental in the boycott here. No corporate advertisers for 6 days . . . that can't be good.

I cannot believe that there are people like the woman caller naive enough to believe that in our democracy such a thing will happen to her. These people don't do research they just listen to the wingnuts like Beck and crawl into his demented world of fear for show ratings. I mean ..come on...there is such a thing as 'common sense'! And common sense doesn't necessarily come with education, either.
I am sorry if I offend anyone with what I am about to say but there are people ( a lot Ive seen lately ) in our country with a gene pool with no lifeguard on call and those are Beck's targets. Can you imagine Beck having a simple show on simple political debates ? He is the biggest crook since Cheeeeny and Bush.

The caller is 47 years old. It sounds like she has disability insurance. She worked in a factory, so if she's ever well enough to work again, it might be hard to find another job. Chances are she will never work again. Now she will have to go through the nightmare process of proving she is unable to work and fighting for every procedure she needs. She might become a burden on her family to cover her medical expenses. She's already feeling hopeless and her depression will affect her quality of life. Glenn Beck just reaffirmed her fear that if Obama has his way, she'll be euthanized out of compassion.

If there was universal healthcare, she wouldn't have to worry about her procedures or medicine or becoming a burden on anyone. She'd feel secure in that after 30 years of hard work, the government would step in and take care of her because she truly needed it. The cost might mean that when she becomes old and frail the government might opt to give her drugs over an operation.

When she thinks about the next 30 years of her life, which option do you think she would choose?

Exactly. This kind of situation doesn't happen under universal healthcare. But universal healthcare doesn't favour the wealthy, so I can see why Beck would be against it.

Universal healthcare seems to favor the poor.

          What’s your point?

How is favoring the poor better than favoring the rich? Are poor people better than rich people? Is there an inherent difference in being poor that entitles poor people to privileges rich people have?
It sounds to me like you are promoting a society where poor people are entitled to everything a rich person has.

It sounds to me like you are saying money provides a certain amount of security in life and you think that everyone should have an equal part of that security, even those that don't have money. Is that what you are saying?

Don't worry, even though i'd like a response, I don't really expect one. I expect to be called a "wingnut" or a "denier" or some other silly and childish name while no one answers a pretty simple question.

"She might become a burden on her family to cover her medical expenses."

Better to be a "burden" on her family than on the United States government.

"...she wouldn't have to worry about her procedures or medicine or becoming a burden on anyone."

So explain to me how that works...I hope you don't think universal healthcare is free...

First of all, if her family considers her a burden then that is the real shame. Why shouldn't her family be responsible for her if she can't provide for herself? There is nothing wrong with that, take responsibility for her health. Sure it might make things difficult for her family, but who cares if they love her, then they will gladly do what needs to be done to help her, if not, then shame on them.

Second, The burden gets shifted to someone, and the government can only print so much money. If you haven't noticed we have an out of control debt as it is. What is the word I keep hearing from everyone...oh yeah..."unsustainable." To think that she won't burden anyone is a foolish and naive idea. If she isn't paying for it, someone else is, and if you turn to universal healthcare then its the government. I thought this was all pretty elementary stuff till I read your post and realized you must be living in a fantasy world.

If it were possible, Glenn should be ashamed of himself for playing on her fears. Instead, he uses her to drive the fear and paranoia more deeply into the body. I feel sorry for this woman on some level. She is clearly scared and doubting herself, but this isn't going to help her at all. Beck essentially assured her that she was exactly the kind of people that will be targeted for these non-existant death panels. But on another level, I don't feel sorry for this woman, she doesn't understand what is going on in the world around her, and she just asked the Mad Hatter for advice. She needs to start reading and researching on her own.

Yes, it does. Interesting side show going on on his site and Newsbusters. Rachel Maddow called out the right for all the Climate Change denial, and he took it as an attack and posted a video blog that Rachel played on her show last night. Glenn took that as another attack and said that Rachel should be ashamed of her intellectual dishonesty because she cut one sentence from one of the clips that he showed. He said one storm didn't prove or disprove Global Warming, he said it was trends. She called him out for denying Climate Change and he accuses her of attacking him. Does anyone doubt that Glenn denies Climate Change? He is nit-picking in order to be nasty to Rachel, and of course, he had to take a dig at the size of her audience versus his. He still doesn't understand that quantity in ratings doesn't equal quality in programming.
