Having just done my taxes this afternoon, I'm pleased to be getting an extra $400 and $4000 bucks from the federal government this year thanks to recent steps taken to reward the American people.

And what is your "reward" for? That's cool, add that to the taxpayers tab... Could you be kind enough to share why you recieved the extra money on your return? Child tax credit? I would be willing to bet that you got back everything you paid and then some. Am I wrong in my assumption? You don't feel as though you are being paid off for the administration's policy of taking from the rich to pay the poor? Don't getme wrong, I feel you do have liberties and rights as a US citizen...however, I disagree that other taxpayers should owe or "reward" you a damn thing.

        Victor,

Totally off topic. Just a little advice. You would be wise to set your W-4 exemptions to a level that left you with $0 in refunds on your taxes or even owing a small amount. Your employer has been taking money out of your checks all year. When you get a refund, you are just getting back money you already paid. If you set your W-4s correctly, then less is taken out all year, and you can save that money and make interest on it. In your current situation, you are giving your money to the government for them to make interest on it and then they give some of it back to you. Your letting them make money on your money interest free.

I already do that. I'm only 'getting back' about a couple hundred dollars; the $400 is the making work pay tax credit and the $4000 is a credit for buying a home.

If you watch his show you'd know that he's said many times that he hopes he is wrong and is proven a fool. He's said repeatedly that he doesn't want to be right in any of his crazy conspiracies. You must only get your Beck fix from MMFA then.

In the mean time he will spread seeds of mistrust, deception, and hate in those who deeply want to believe he is right and trust in the things that he tells them.

You really don't see a danger in this kind of behavior?

I live in Texas, which means I happen to live in the heartland of Conservatism. I even used to listen to Glenn Beck in the early to mid eighties on a Zoo morning radio program in Corpus Christi during my summers there. The thing I remember most about him were the ridiculous voices he used to do. Even as a child, I remember that they seemed sophmoric and juvenile.

Anyway, I don't have to read into the minds of Beck's viewers... I am surrounded by them. I have dinner with them. I work with them. I spend holidays with them. They are in my family, amongst my friends, and are my neighbors. I have met them in passing, spoken with them on MANY occasions, and offered my home and hospitality to them. You might even say that I myself am a Glenn Beck viewer.

Most of them watch him like they would watch Jerry Springer. They don't take him litteraly and they get a bit of a perverse reaction from watching him. I believe that you fall into this category. Then there are others who watch him and try to speak like him. They say the same things, repeat the same lines, but ultimately and in the face of a real substantive discussion they are proven everytime to be woefully ignorant of the facts and usually respond with, "you need to watch Glenn Beck."

But, then there are a few, and I say with all sincerity, that scare me. People I know who seem to be angry... at something. Doesn't seem like they know really what they are angry about. They are just angry. And this anger manifests itself at such a level of hyperbolic nonsense that trying to reason with them is next to impossible. You add Glenn Beck to this mix and rationality is all but forgotten. They feed on the things he tells them. They devour it. He gives their rage focus and direction. He gives them something to be angry about.

When I say that there is a danger in this kind of thing, I am refering to the level of hyperbole from which Glenn Beck speaks. You once quoted Beck saying, "mean what you say." Why should his audience not take him at his word. From experience, I can tell you that there are people out there who do.

You forget the fourth kind of viewer. I watch Mr. Beck and research the information and come to rational and logical conclusions from the information. I weed through some of the sensationalistic claims and rhetoric. I identify aspects of truth, and I discuss them with others without being proven "woefully ignorant." The comments in this clip are a great example. It is a bit far fetched that government sees us as the "bad guys," but there is some truth in the statement as well. Historically, governments have felt it is necessary to legislate our behaviors because they believe we are either incapable or incompetent. As with most things in life, it is rarely as easy as, "he is completely wrong or he is completely right."

Nope. Not forgotten. Anyone who would take the time to research what Glenn Beck says and recognizes that he speaks through "sensationalistic claims and rhetoric" and yet still watch his program fall in my first description of viewer. If you know that he speaks in half truths and watch him anyway then you are watching him for another reason... which is why I made the comparison to a Jerry Springer viewer. In other words, a more visceral emotional response rather than one of intellect.

I identify aspects of truth, and I discuss them with others without being proven "woefully ignorant."
You shouldn't have to "identify aspects of truth." He is on a News channel, and that network has a responsibility for accurate reporting. I don't have a problem with opinion programming. I have a problem with opinion programming masquerading as a news program.

I don't see it as anything different than an editorial page in the newspaper. They do not appear, to me, to be passing his show off as a news program. It is called "The Glenn Beck Show." It is not surprising that it is comprised of his viewpoints and opinions.

Your statement has two problems. One, it assumes you know why I watch the show, and two it suffers from a kind of elitism or high-browed arrogance. Truth is not the monopoly of academics or intellectualism. It can be found in simple writings and sensationalistic shows. A critical intellect can be a tool in an academic environment as well as in your average cinema. I watch both MSNBC shows and FNC shows. I find the polarized view points give me an idea of the misconceptions on both sides of various debates. If I want to speak with people, I will probably encounter people who watch either network. Having zones of commonality is helpful when interacting.

Beck: "Our government looks at the American people as the bad guy"

Well in American history, when the American people put the wrong person in political office that person is for an Oligarchy type of governance in which the lower and middle class are ignored. Which in the course of history it has happened alot! That was the meaning of doing progressive actions to change the situation at those particular periods of time Becky! The same Progressive movement you bash has did things to make this country better. We are far from stopping though. Race, gender, class, and sexual preference is still on the table to be fought for the benefit of the majority who have common sense. Since the minority believe your BS rhetoric!
