But "nuclear option" sounds so much more dangerous than reconciliation

Only 51 votes? You mean like what's directed in our Constitution?

You mean like the way the Republican Senators passed

      2001 Bush Tax Cuts [HR1836)
      2003 Bush Tax Cuts [HR2]
Tax Increase and Prevention Act of 2005 [HR4297]
Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 [H. Con Res 95]

We had quite a nuclear war between 2001 - 2005

Actually, no, it's just that democrats didn't filibuster every single piece of legislation that the republicans brought forth back in the day. Now, the republicans have filibustered around 90% of anything that democrats have brought to the floor of the Senate since democrats took back control in 2006.

A caller to Washington Journal this morning started his speech with "I'm seventy years old, and I've been a Conservative since I was born," which let me know he was going to be a real winner. He said that in his entire life, he had never seen Democrats reach out to try to work with Republicans, yet whenever Republicans are in control, they are expected to work with Democrats. Seriously- you cannot make this stuff up, I felt like I was living in the bizarro world.

He concluded his rant by calling Obama a Marxist Muslim. Of course.

Personally, i was extremely surprised and pleased today when I found out that a friend of mine wasn't as die-hard conservative as I thought. She ended up being a moderate Republican who just happens to hate Obama for his health care reform plans. However, it appears that the moderate Republicans are a dying race and are being replaced by extremists within their party. This is becoming more apparent as individuals begin to call Obama a fascist, Marxist, socialist, communist, progressive, Islamic extremist. Sadly, this is the course our country is taking, at a point when we need creative bipartisan solutions.
