Yep. It reminds me of every Hollywood courtroom scene I've ever seen. One attorney says something outrageous or unsupportable, the other attorney objects and the jury is ordered to disregard what they've just heard. How can they do that?

Why do they always seem to be apologizing for blatant gaffes which inadvertently(?) seem designed to attack Democrats and Obama?

Don't the gaffes work in both directions?

I'm sure someone will pop up here to explain that a)CNN never apologizes to Republicans because they're biased towards Dems, b)they apologize to Democrats because if they don't Obama will send his thugs around and of course c)it really is the Dept of Jihad because Obama was born in Kenya and went to a madarassah.

MSNBC has apoligzed for a few gaffes in the past, in particular Dylan Ratigan. FOX of course never apoligizes, but I have noticed MSNBC apologize for things that attacked Republicans.

It's hard to believe that this guy has an Edward R Murrow award. I guess he used to be good (?). But this guy has taken a turn for the worse. As has CNN in general.

But his "apology" isn't so sincere if you check out the other promos. Leave it to Glenn Greenwald of Salon to keep things in perspective below:

I know that it's totally inexcusable to have run the headline, but good for him on admitting the error. Keep in mind, it's CNN we're talking here; when they do stories well, they do them quite well. But when they botch it like they did with this one, CNN tends to be very, very quiet about it, and rarely acknowledges their mistake.

I think Blitzer might have enough integrity to put his own reputation on the line to concede the error, rather than take the typical cable news route of cynically shifting the conversation to accommodate one's own failings of journalism - e.g., death panels, or the idea that Obama is a Muslim, or the War in Iraq.

But compare Rick Sanchez's routine blathering idiocy, most recently embodied by the Chilean earthquake (and memorably lampooned by Jon Stewart). Likewise, note the media's allowing Dick Cheney to be interviewed without challenging his blatant reputation-saving lies. Also, Fox News has still gotten away with the idea that they're simply an outspoken conservative news organization, rather than the GOP's propaganda wing.

Every little bit of journalistic integrity helps, and should be encouraged. For every good TV journalist (like Shepard Smith) there are at least a dozen John Stossels. For every good opinion commentator (like Rachel Maddow), there are five Bill O'Reillys (or - let's be honest with ourselves, liberals - Ed Schulz). And for every good political talk show host (like Fareed Zakaria), there are a half dozen hacks like Chris Wallace.

Very good, ojnabieoot. It's true that Blitzer's apology is to be lauded, even mildly. And i couldn't agree more that every little bit of journalistic integrity helps.

Unfortunately, they are too often tiny pearls lost in gigantic blizzards. I generally turn to CNN for their veneer of equanimity, but i find it has a tendency to drift into good ol' false equivalency.

What a shame that we have to endure the Bills, Eds, Ricardos, Chrises etc, in order to get the benefit of the few Rachels, Fareeds and (winces) Sheps.

I can't watch the clip at the moment, but did he apologize for the rest of the segment as well? The Department of Jihad graphic was just the beginning of everything that was biased and wrong with this segment. Greenwald's takedown is a must read.

No, he didn't apologize for the rest of the segment. That's why I posted the link to Greenwald's article, and it is a must read as you stated. Thanks.

The whole segment was despicable and just a repeating of Bill Kristol and Lynn Cheney talking points. blitzer only apologized for the caption of which he said many viewers found offensive and he agreed with that, but no mention of anything else in the program. Glenn Greenwald is the "bomb." Maybe I should tone that down less I be accused of falling prey to the cult of personality. Haha!
Oh well, did you hear what Glenn Beck said....hehe!

Why is it OK to trash the military and the justice department when a Democrat is in the White House? It is unacceptable.

I think Wolf should get on all fours and bark like a dog in front of Holder. Considering how Holder was trashed back in 2000 for his handling of the Elian Gozalez raid, it is the least CNN could do.

      On your knees, Wolf !!

Let us not get ahead of ourselves. Although I am 100% percent against media bias be it liberal or conservative, I still firmly believe CNN is the shining light amidst thousands of dark clouds. They did not mean to insinuate that the DOJ is a jihadist apologist/defender rather the sick and disgusting Liz lying daughter of satan Cheney accused them of it in a new excuse of an ad. America WAKE UP! The Republicans are using deceiving tactics saying "you had a job under bush" or "America was safe under bush" blah blah blah. Jimmy Carter a DEMOCRAT, warned us of this. Yet because of the conservative blood that the majority of Americans sadly hold, we did not heed to this mans words.
