EMBED

CALLER: Yeah. Hey, listen. Interesting sidebar to that Eric Massa mess for Democrats. You know, our besieged governor, David Paterson, will be charged with naming a replacement for Massa. And I'm wondering if there's any chance -- do you think that Paterson --

RUSH LIMBAUGH: Wait a minute.

CALLER: -- will exact some revenge on Obama, Emanuel, Cuomo, the whole Democratic gulag, by appointing a Republican or, at the very least, a DINO -- a Democrat in name only?

LIMBAUGH: Are you sure that Paterson appoints or is there a special election?

CALLER: I am reasonably sure that Paterson will be appointing the replacement, assuming that he, you know, doesn't resign in the next 60 or 90 days.

LIMBAUGH: Let's assume you're right. So, David Paterson will become the massa --

CALLER: Yes.

LIMBAUGH: -- who gets to appoint whoever gets to take Massa's place. So, for the first time in his life, Paterson's gonna be a massa. Interesting, interesting.

Does Rush use tape delay? Because i think he's probably already had some covered-up slips of the tongue by now. (Which would mean that THIS is what he thinks is his "safe" material...)

Actually, most shows that take 'live' calls will have a delay. I remember when a 'cart' (like an 8-track for those unfamiliar with Radio) was on a seven second loop at one station I worked at. I suspect it's done via computer now.

Not only do I remember 'carts' but reel-to-reel on a loop.
I like to think we helped pioneer the use of carts in newscasts back in the 60s on CKLW Windsor/Detroit.

I believe that they are now required to have tape delay, as a result of the "wardrobe malfunction" brouhaha some years ago.

The major question is why aren't Radio Shock Jocks required to have transcripts for their shows? I know Limbaugh has them, but many, many braodcasters don't.

I know he said he'll go to Costa Rica (if his distortions of HRC come true, which they won't, of course) but I was down there myself about 3 years ago and I saw the billboards (surrounded by a scale model of a cinderblock prison wall with real razor wire on top) warning of the mandatory 16-year sentence for anyone caught having sex with a minor. Depending on what you believe about Rush's exploits in the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica is perhaps not where he really wants to be.

" Interesting " More than you know, El Rushbo. Not Patterson being a "massa", but your 50s- style racial humor, and what it says about you.

"Interesting" is what I heard on the radio this morning as I flipped around the am Republican gulag. Limbaugh was talking about a photo of Jay-Z in the situation room, about which he commented (paraphrasing) - Nobody gets in the situation room, least of all rappers !

He went into a commercial with this, and I flipped over to hear the shrill tones of Laura Ingraham playing clips of some rapper noting his admiration for Buzz Aldrin. INgraham sounded very confused (paraphrasing again); When did Aldrin become a hip hop icon ? I think of him as an American legend!

I guess "rapper" is a safe word for them. There's the gangster/thug distinction that their audience most likely understands, and can use to tell themselves it's not about race, but it was really clear from these remarks who the two radio yakkers considered the least of people, and not really Americans.

I'm a white guy in my late 40s, pretty ignorant about rap & Hip Hop, but I'm not terrified of them. I understand changing demographics and pop culture, and I know that my lack of familiarity with the music isn't because they're weird or alien, it's because I'm a middle-aged white guy.

The Limbaughs, Ingrahams and other "traditional values" conservatives are in a state of panic. It's not all about race, there's Teh Gays, teh Atheists, and other threats to their make-believe world, but non-white people finally getting a little bit of influence seems to really have these self-entitled elitists shaking in their boots.

It's certainly not surprising to hear Limbaugh make a racist statement.

The stunning thing is to see yet more proof that if you bring in money, you're untouchable.

As with all his other blatantly racist comments, there will not be a single advertiser that abandons his program.

There have been questions as to whether or not he really does bring in money for his show though. Sure, he gets paid a lot, but does he bring it in?

There are a LOT of radio stations that carry his show that are given the show for free, because they are in smaller markets, as in, most of the country.

And if you listen to his advertisers, they are not "top shelf" so to speak.

If having to choose Massa's replacement makes Patterson a "massa" for the first time in his life, what was he on January 24, 2009, when he chose Gillibrand to go to the Senate? Stupid people shouldn't make up things. They lack the intellectual prowess to recall events that happened in the recent past and end up looking like the fools they are.

You're half right about Rush. He is not afraid of being called 'racist', but not for the reasons you believe. While right-wing professional liars like Rush insist that we are living in a post-racial America, at the same time they appeal to the prejudices that still exist in much of America. It's this particular appeal that keeps his listeners hooked, and keeps his lucrative contracts coming.

BTW, very cute how you tried to turn those who use the term 'racist' into the problem, instead of the actual racists themselves.

The accusation of "racism" is usually a power play. Case in point: where is the outrage over Dan Rather's "watermelon" comment this week? See, he is a liberal so he gets a free pass just like Harry Reid.

None of these statements by 3 different people are equivalent.Harry Reid used the word Negro..wow the NAACP,the UNNCF,etc.and some Black People could care less. Some Blacks(me included) think it was a little bit clumsy to use Negro particularly while making the point( a valid one) he was trying to make. The Dan Rather comment is inconclusive at best ...watermelon is not automatically a racial slur. How its used in conjunction with Black people becomes the problem. You know like a watermelon patch on the lawn of the White House or Watermelon/Fried Chicken Obama food coupons. The intent is very clear in those cases, also from Republicans/conservatives who typically agree with Limbaugh on most everything.
Now Mr. Limbaugh says David Patterson will "for the first time in his life be the massa".So previously he was what ..a slave serving a massa? It should be easy for anyone to discern that this is much more offensive! Its pretty close to just using the N word.
We constantly see this false equivalency from conservatives trying to defend their behavior by trying to bring others down to the level some of them show. Over and over again, people from the right say very openly racist stuff and are not criticized by the same people that try to make equivalency when someone they want to attack says something clumsy or insensitive but far less offensive than the crap Limbaugh says almost everyday!!..
On a scale of 1-10 ..Reid /Rather was a 3 or 4 ,Limbaugh's is a 9!!!His Litle black manchild comment repeated over and over is the same ..he may as well call the President a BOY and get it over with!!I have not heard any conservatives criticize him for it!!

You are so right. Further, because we know Rather is not a racist, we give him more credit. On the other hand, we have plenty of evidence that Limbaugh is a racist. Ergo, if Limbaugh made the same "watermelon" comment, it would be racist, simply because of the mouth that uttered it.

"where is the outrage over Dan Rather's "watermelon" comment this week?"
Unlike Limbaugh, Dan Rather does not have a legacy of racist rhetoric. Unlike Limbaugh, Dan Rather apologizes when he makes a stupid remark. That's why the outrage over Rather pales in comparison.

I will have to say that Rush's comment is rather racist...

Sometimes claims of racism can go to far, but this is definitely racist...

I'm not shocked to hear that Limbaugh is a racist, bigoted, homophobic a-hole. And, as a person lacking in color, I'm thrilled to see blacks and jews taking over the White House and can't wait to see gays and women there as well. I'm hoping that it drives Limbaugh a REAL heart attack, and soon. I have a feeling though, that there is a another generation of white boys club conservative pigf^ckers just like him coming up behind him. There will always be a Rush Limbaugh to shoot off their mouth. I'm dreaming of the day when advertisers stop supporting them and media stops giving them a venue to spew their filth. Probably not going to see it in my lifetime, sadly.

Hey,allow me to introduce myself. I am RumBall, the evil twin of Rushbo. I like RumBall because I live in Florida - rum country - and the Ball is from sleazeball.
Remember when Rushbo started shaking saying Michael Fox was faking Parkinsons? I don't have a camera in my studios but tell me how I am? I am a bloated human, eyes bulging, it is around Christmas, I am in Hawaii, and I am gripping my chest because of a pain something like a heart attack (for those who believe I have a heart!). Give up?? I am RumBall!!! LOL!!! MUCH better than the Michael Fox bit.
It gets better. My brother Rushbo has a male lover called Karl Rove. Coincidence, you tell me: Karl moved to Florida after leaving the White House, Karl divorced his wife around Christmas 2008. Karl, always the straightalker, was going to go public with his relationship with Rushbo. As a diversion, El Macho Rushbo had his fake heart attack while he buys time to talk his lover out of going public.
There you have it. Stay tuned for more updates from RumBall.
      And may God Bless.
