Beck should be treading lightly here. The last thing he needs is Christian groups speaking out against him.

It's almost as if he can't help but cause his own self-destruction, lending a lot of credence to claims that he is mentally ill.

They already are. They are protesting his words as we speak. Since Fox depends on these folks for their "base," Ailes may finally get smart and get this lunatic off the television. Hopefully, his radio syndicator will follow suit. I thought for a while that Beck was just misleading his listeners in order to get ratings and attention, but I'm beginning to think that he's just becoming more and more unhinged.

This is completely a layman's conjecture, but it seems to me that Beck is demonstrating a type of addictive compulsion. He's addicted to his celebrity, and to the buzz he gets from being "the guy with the guts to tell the truth." But in order to both stay on top in the ratings game, and to keep getting that buzz, he has to keep topping himself.

I know, but it's still in a state of low simmer. Hasn't broken big yet, and might not unless a church rep nails him. Beck can still slide on this one, if only he'd just shut up - but it's as if he's unable to stop himself.

I think he's addicted to the rush of the risk.

The parable of the rich young ruler shows that the teachings of Christ are the antithesis of what the RWA's [the faux conservatives] believe. Christ flat out told him to give all of his possessions to the poor and to follow Him. Told him that it was easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Ssssshhhh. That's the most scariest part of the Bible to right wing conservatives. Scarier than the whale swallowing a man. Scarier than God's closest follower of the time being required to sacrafice his own son. Scarier than all of Revelations put together. That's the part of the Bible they try not to think about, just push it to the back of the mind and act like it was never said.

You people don't understand at all... Jesus never said to give all our posessions to the government so they could redistribute it. He said that each of us, individually, should choose, of our own free will, to give to the poor, care for the widow and the orphan; he also taught that riches should not be more important than faith, or love for our fellow man. 'Eye of the needle': that was the entrance of the city; camels had to kneel to pass through. This means that the rich must be humble, willing to part with their riches for the good of others, in order to enter heaven. If they are FORCED by their government, they CANNOT CHOOSE to do it on their own, and so are robbed of any eternal reward their choice might have warranted. God doesn't force us; he lets us choose. This is the KEY to God's plan for his children, the freedom to choose.

Who should stand up for the young, poor, sick, and elderly? Who should insist our country treat them at least half as fairly as the rich and powerful?
I choose to stand up for disadvantaged - one day most of us will need some help.

Oh so THAT's what Obummer is trying to do. He's not trying to make us all poor by redistribution of wealth because he wants all the power, he's trying to get us all into Heaven.

At least that's a rational explanation for his antics.

The DOD is good! How in the words of Jesus can Christians believe in all this social justice nonsense. Jesus wants us to blow our enemies off the face of the Earth. I am not sure why, because the Rapture is coming and Jesus will take care of these unbelievers, but that's what we have to do.

Glenn there is no debate within the Catholic Church Pope Leo XIII issued the Rerum Novarum in 1891 establishing the idea of Catholic Social Justice.
It supported the rights of labor to form unions, rejected communism and unrestricted capitalism, whilst affirming the right to private property.

It's time for everyone to go to their Rabbis, Priests, Ministers and Imams and get some answers. Beck appears to speak for them. He's got several national platforms.

Too many churches have been too quick to judge certain office seekers for not speaking out on certain issues. Are they comfortable knowing that this man wishes to speak for them?

"As people do better, they start voting like Republicans -- unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing."

Hey Nerzog, big fan of yours for a while, we used to get on Tommy and Jeter2 back in the day (couple of years ago, don't know if you remember.) I wanted to point you to a blog I love, www.balloon-juice.com, that put forth the theory before the 2008 election that there had to be a point where the bats**ttery reached a tipping point, dubbed peak wingnut. Not only was the idea hilariously short-lived, but it sparked a whole host of debates about the Wingnut event horizon, which is characterized as follows:

An event that is always happening, yet never ever happens. Occasionally, a wingnut will say/write/blog/publish/fart something so ridiculous, so closed-minded, so full of hate and scorn, yet free from thought and consideration, that anyone hearing it will be forced to conclude that said wingnut will never again be taken seriously/linked to/have a Time article written about him. However, in a sick twisted perversion of the actual event horizon, no matter how far you walk from the Wingnut Event Horizon, they’re never any further away.

I always loved that, and think it accurately sums up our current political climate.

Well, no, not really. There were many similar philosophers who took the same approach that Jesus did before Jesus came about. It's just that Jesus was the one that was popularized. His ideas were nothing new.

You're correct. I was just thinking of the average Christian who only cares about Jesus. Your comment reminded me of one of my favorite Jewish teachers-Hillel. "If I am not for myself, who will be for me. If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?" He was an old man when Jesus was a child, Jesus might actually have met him in the Temple.

The one I think of is The Buddha, about 600 years before Yeshua*. One theory is that during 'the missing years' (age 12-30 typically), Jesus learned Buddhist teachings.

The question "What sort of person would listen to Beck and believe anything he says?" Actually we all know the answer. But the few that advertise on his show know about his audience in detail. They wish to make their advertising as efficient as possible so try to pick shows that deliver an audience as close to their "ideal" potential customer as possible. So look at his advertisers and ask yourself "What sort of person would buy this product (or service)?" The first rough answer has to be "fearful to the point of paranoia."

If the poor lady who gave only pennies actually gave up more than the rich people who gave loads of money, according to Jesus, then how are we supposed to react the poor paying less taxes than the rich, according to Jesus? I think it's clear that Jesus would say that the poor are actually giving up more even though they are paying less taxes than the rich. Jesus would trumpet the rich paying higher taxes than the poor. Yet these right wing crazy people stake all the claim in Jesus. They try to take the title of a "Christian" without taking the acts of a Christian. They are luke warm. We know what Jesus does with luke warm.

Watch This with no Reference or Googles or pun intended:
What Mr. Beck is speaking of in religious terms is called “an insurrectionist”. Which simply means, “Some one that uses the pulpit to cohere a leadership and ideal.
Social Justice is a very broad term. It is Social Justice to lets say, Proclaim your neighbor has more then you so it should be yours then you take all what they own. It is Social Justice to lets say kill all the newborns like in the New Testament.
Social Justice is defined by what ever the social policy is at the time of the justice.
Glen Beck is a very caring man to point this out to people.
The church cannot have a social justice policy other then giving to the poor or witch burning. It depends what day of the year it is. Now do you get it? Fools
